IT'S OFFICIAL! FINANCIAL MOGUL, JAY QUIST HAS PURCHASED THE PREMIER BASEBALL LEAGUE!

The rumors of the PBL being sold was swirling during the league's fifth season. Today those rumors become fact as Jay Quist becomes the second commissioner of the upstart league, replacing the former Jackson Hewitt.

Jay comes from a financial background where he runs and operates multiple stock and trade agencies in the Los Angeles area. He spoke to Talon Wilkinson, commissioner of the highly popular HIFL and plans on running a very similar style.

The Premier Baseball League consists of 16 teams featuring 12 in the US and 4 international teams and has a 54 game schedule that spans 18 total weeks. With the purchase, Jay Quist announced each team will hold interviews for potential General Managers to run their franchise.

More to come in the weeks ahead.

SEASON 6 DRAFT ORDER AND DRAFT CLASS RELEASED!

The GM era has begun in the PBL and the first order of business is the upcoming PBL draft, which will be held live in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It will consist of three rounds, sixteen picks in each round for a total of forty-eight players being selected. The general draft order is the reverse order of the previous year's standings. If two teams finish with identical records, the previous year's standings of the two teams is the tiebreaker, with the team having a worse record receiving the higher pick. Players from all over the world, some out of high school, others after a successful college career... each with a different journey. This is an exciting time for baseball fans. Chicago Mafia... you're on the clock!

1. Chicago Mafia
2. London Griffins
3. New Orleans Brass
4. Omaha Explorers
5. Brooklyn Punishers
6. Thunder Bay Roar
7. Tokyo Samurai Cats
8. Virginia Beach Tide
9. San Diego Devil Dogs
10. Boise Elk
11. Austin Drillers
12. Golden State Bayhawks

It didn't take long for the new GM era to make a splash with a big time trade involving 3-time All-Star starting pitcher, Johnny Frank. The Tide acquire the veteran righty from the Elk along with George Bailey. Meanwhile, the Elk get the 24th overall pick in the S6 draft in Tyler Braswell and Johnny Witte.

FAN OUTCRY IN THUNDER BAY!

After two trades by newly hired GM James Metro, it has not impressed the fans one bit. First he dealt away top prospect Ryan Correa and a serviceable pitcher in Andy Warrington to Virginia Beach for rookie Armando Roman and utility infielder George Fasulo. But the trade that really tipped the iceberg was trading talented catcher Manny Diaz and Dan Sisto for Jose Flores, a relief pitcher from Boise. Manny Diaz was a fan favorite and while they expected him to maybe to be traded away because of Fig in the catcher spot, they thought there would be much more payout than an aged relief pitcher.

Tim Kennedy, a Thunder Bay Roar fan from the onset said, "If he thinks he can do whatever he wants because he also has Canadian blood, then might take this aboot and stick it where the sun don't shine.".

Many fines like Tim have voiced their concerns prior to the beginning of the Season 6 preseason. If Roman, Fasulo, and Flores make an immediate impact, then maybe it will quiet the backlash these trades have caused.

FOLLOWING MCCORD RELEASE... FANS THROW BRICKS THROUGH GM PHOENIX JR.'S HOUSE WINDOW

First it was Thunder Bay... and now Brooklyn. Police were called onto the scene early Wednesday morning after reports of bricks being thrown by a small mob of Brooklyn Punisher superfans through the window of Brooklyn GM, Phoenix Jr. Some bricks had notes attached to them wishing he would serve the same fate as his late father, who was gunned down in his own office while he was the GM of the then HIFL's Seattle Rhinos.

A random fan interviewed near the crime scene said, "Sean was the heartbeat of this team! We never had the offense to properly back him and this is no way for a Brooklyn legend to get shown the door. This is a obvious act of ageism and I hope Mr. Castiglione reprimands GM Dumbshit Jr. ASAP!".

Ownership in Brooklyn did not return any calls.

Meanwhile, what does this mean for Sean McCord, a 40 year old right handed veteran who many experts feel has life left in his arm, despite his age. His numbers are not nearly as bad as the record might suggest after compiling a PBL career 6-16 record with a 3.62 era. The S1 and S2 all-star is said to be contemplating retirement in the next few days if no teams show him any interest.

ACCORDING TO SOURCES, GM JUSTIN INEXPLICABLY CANCELS TRAINING CAMP, ANGERING FANS AND PLAYERS

News coming out of New Orleans is that GM Justin has canceled training camp. The reason for it as yet to be determined, but as we head into the PBL preseason, many questions will need to be answered to stop the heavy backlash in the rash decision. Stay tuned as we learn more in the coming days.

INDIANAPOLIS AERO FANS DEFECATE ON THE HOOD AND ROOF OF GM FRANCHISE'S CAR WHILE IT'S PARKED IN THE STADIUM PARKING LOT!

After not one, not two, but THREE financial blunders by new Indianapolis Aeros General Manager, James Franchise, fans flocked to Aero Head Park where fans took turns defecating on the hood and roof of the unpopular General Manager's car. No arrests were made as local police let the fans pile up their stool to avoid any type of riot. No comment was made from Indianapolis Police nor the Indianapolis Aeros. The car is no longer on the premises, but it's unknown whether it was burned and destroyed or if GM Franchise drove it home.

SPRING TRAINING COMES TO AN END AS THE AUSTIN DRILLER FINISH WITH THE BEST RECORD, LED BY RICKY CRUZ AND HIS SPRING TRAINING LEADING 7 HRS AND 20 RBIS.

While Spring Training is a period for General Managers and Skippers to evaluate their team and decide who is going to make the main roster squad and who isn't up for the challenge. For Ricky Cruz though, it was just business as usual. The former 7th overall pick is entering his third season with the Drillers and is looking to build off his success last season with a power display we haven't seen from him yet. Asked where the power was coming from Cruz said, "I've been in the gym lifting non-stop this offseason to get bigger and stronger. These pitchers are in over their heads when they see me standing 60 feet in front of them.".

The power surge has produced numerous rumors of potential performance enhancing drugs being in play, but most experts chalk up the spring training outburst to hitting off lesser skilled pitchers. One thing is for sure, after the spring training the Drillers had, all eyes will be on them and the Ricky Cruz sensation as we enter the regular season.

SUCCESSFUL OPENING WEEK OVERSHADOWED BY MISSING GMS

In what turned out to be a resounding success for the first week of the season six season in the PBL, the bigger stories were about two GM's that apparently want nothing to do with their team. After his disappearing act in the offseason, GM Justin was once again absent during all baseball activities which is leading to some higher up people in the organization whether he is the right man for the job. According to reports, GM Justin was all over twitter getting in betting wars about his HIFL team that he also GM's in Oakland.

If we go a little farther south, there is GM Pancho, who was also absent from all baseball activities. He was also rumored to be too pre-occupied with running his Alabama team then his team in Mexico City. Officials in the Mexico City organization don't think it's as serious of a problem as is being reported though.

Despite both GM's absence from their teams, New Orleans and Mexico City both posted 2-1 records and are tied for 1st in the Midland Division. This of course has posed the question on whether either GM is really needed and if both franchise's are better off without their GM.

S7 DRAFT POOL IS ANNOUNCED...

Some might say it's too early to be thinking about next season, but this week was the deadline for high school and college kids to declare for the PBL draft next season. Some high profile high school players opted for college such as pitcher Jaxon Hunter (LSU) and shortstop Freddie King (Florida State). While Nate Hoppe, Justin Fox and Tristan Rambo are some top prospects to decide to try their luck in the draft. If any high schoolers do go undrafted, they do have the option of entering college and entering the draft after playing 3 years.

With the draft quite a ways from now, it'll be interesting to see how soon teams begin sending their scout team to check out these draft prospects and try and get an edge up on next season.

Andres Pizzolato is respected by most Thunder Bay Roar fans for his no-frills style of play. The 22-year-old second baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .444 average (4-for-9) with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

Jorge Altamirano's hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Jorge Altamirano was rewarded with the Coastal Conference Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Boise Elk right fielder hit .500 while collecting 6 hits in 12 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.

Brandon Wolfe showing he is the new face to run this place...

All the talk in the preseason was about Ricky Cruz and the numbers he was putting up, but that has nothing on the numbers Wolfe is putting up out of the gate to start the season... and he is a rookie to boot! Although Omaha is a pedestrian 4-5 mark on the season, it is of no fault of the rookie. Wolfe is slashing .486/.548/.946 to go with 5 homers and 14 RBIs. The catcher out of Oregon was more known for his play behind the plate, then at it, but he's showing he can be the all-around player that makes GMs water from the mouth. Whether he can keep the hot start going will remain to be seen, but there is no doubt about it, Wolfe isn't a future star.... he's a star right now!

In other news...

WEEK THREE HEADLINES

  • London's Calling: Nick Hudson continues impressive scoreless streak!
The sixth year player, coming off back to back All-Star seasons, has brought his scoreless streak on the season to 16 innings as he improved his record to 3-0 after the rubber match victory against the Devil Dogs. He's been mixing in his fastball, curveball, and circle change to near perfection and is a big part of the early success for the Griffins.

  • Dugouts Clear: Heated match-up between the Tide and Punishers could bring down punishment from the league!
In a series that included Johnny Baseball hitting a game winning homer in extras followed by his flamboyant bat flip, and a string of hitters being pelted with fastballs, it all came to a head in the 5th inning of their last game in a three game set. After LaMonica took the second ball in as many games off his back in the first inning... the Punishers pegged Eric Thomas in the 4th and Johnny Baseball in the 5th. The latter caused both dugouts to clear and some heated exchanges. No players were thrown out, but both managers were. The league was said they would review the footage and come to a decision after the next weekend of games.

  • The Rocque Says: BayHawks starting pitcher says they are the team to beat, not Boise!
One week after Merico of Boise said to start planning a parade, it was Chris Roque who had the last laugh after Golden State took the series on the road in Boise. The right hander was brilliant firing 8 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 run, and striking out 10. It should be a fun battle throughout the season between these two clubs!

  • League changes to go into effect immediately!
After an emergency meeting was called by Commissioner Quist with the players association and league officials, it was determined that this season will have a new playoff format. Divisional series will continue to be a best of three game series. Championship series will now be a best of five game series. And the Premier Cup will now be a best of seven game series! More things were discussed but tabled until the offseason.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Heartland Conference, but last week Brandon Wolfe of the Omaha Explorers reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Wolfe rocked opposing pitching for a .750 average (9-for-12), 2 home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award.

(http://espnsportssims.net/pics/var/thumbs/PBL/tok1.png)(http://espnsportssims.net/pics/var/thumbs/PBL/Players/ChrisWestfall.jpg)(http://espnsportssims.net/pics/var/thumbs/PBL/tok1.png)

There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Chris Westfall, the Tokyo first baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Coastal Conference Player of the Week honors. Westfall piled up 7 hits in 12 at-bats, 3 home runs and 5 RBIs while hitting .583.
