I agree Pancho, and while those storylines are about being better at ones job, it's also about the ones who are good at doing their job suffering consequences from ones who aren't doing their job as well.

Limiting the potential consequences and backlash from another GM's mistakes isn't a bad thing is it?

Also, Jon, the attitude at the time those mistakes were made was "Screw Stark for doing this" but the attitude now, again, is "screw the HIFL GM's"

It's a different tone and response entirely. Nobody is here to prevent other GM's from making mistakes. I'm talking about limiting other GM's from suffering consequences because of other GM's mistakes.

5
Elias and Woods were the mistakes of a new GM to the game. And AMC was the result of a GM who was absent. But they're all good points, Kirk.

6
Here's my thing, trying to look at IC things from an OOC perspective:

1. GM's voted down expanding the roster and raising the salary cap, which upset the HIFLPA and cultivated negative feelings towards GM's in the league in general.

2. The backlash from Bell after being traded by BD to atlanta shortly after signing his contract with St. Louis was not directed specifically at BD. It was directed broadly at HIFL GM's.

I'm not saying that we NEED to incorporate a ban, or even that we should, but that it's something that should be talked about.

IC, the GM's pushing something that would seem to favor protecting the players somewhat wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And it's not like it's a full season, the way this discussion is written up anyway, it's just stopping trades on ERFA signed players until after training camp. GM's would have freedom to trade those players before pre-season started.

If it's a no it's a no, that's fine. But I think it's something we might come to regret down he line.

7
What do I have to feel guilty about? I didn't cause the backlash tonight lol.

8
That's fair but the response currently is less of a "screw that GM" and more of a "Screw ALL HIFL GM's" and that's not a good look for any of us in regards to future negotiations and stalling the stream of players leaving HIFL for the XFL.

Rule Change Discussion Board / Rule Discussion #12: ERFA Trade Ban
« on: June 17, 2019, 11:11:10 PM »
Just putting this up here for discussion currently, given some of the things that have happened lately and some of the blowback that is coming from it.

I would like for us to discuss possibly enforcing a trade ban on all players signed during ERFA until after training camp is complete. Some effort on the GM's part to protect the players as a whole may help to pacify the HIFLPA and put players minds at ease who are starting to feel like loyalty is something that is lacking from current GM's.

Thoughts?

"Haven't been able to catch a break all season but at the very least, if we're going to struggle, we're getting some of the young guys some experience under their belts.

I like the adjustments that you suggested so we'll run with them. Let me just say, as well, that I appreciate your continued professionalism. It would be easy, given the history of success and championships here in Jacksonville, to get frustrated and I don't think anyone would blame you. But you've done a nice job leading the team. I know we're only seven weeks into the season but I wanted you to know that that has not gone unnoticed."

Discuss the latest series.

"After the first game it was a tough one and one that is probably going to eat at us for a good bit now. This was a series that we were in a good position to win, and we let slip through our fingers. Credit to the Punishers for fighting for the victories in games two and three."

Talk about at least one piece of news.

"I think that the owners of each individual team have a right to evaluate whether their GM is meeting the standard of presence and activity expected for this job. If they aren't meeting that standard, and that includes me, then we deserve to have our position and place in this league questioned. Hopefully it will be a wake up call to all of us who are blessed to be able to do what we do."

With the creativity some teams have explored such as starting your ace in Game 3 and using an "opener" approach. If you've used one of those strategies, will you continue them? If you haven't, will you start? Why and why not?

"I'm not usually a fan of those sort of gimmicky strategies, but given where we're at in the standings, I'm open to anything."

Talk about your opponent this week. Which one of the games is the most important to win for your team?

"Omaha is a team that has had struggles this season like ourselves and this is the sort of series we need to win, and sweep by any means necessary, to start clawing our way back into the playoff discussion again. As for which game is the most important to win, I'm a firm believer that the first game of every series sets the tone for how things might go. So if I had to pick one to win, it would be that one. But we're going to do our best to win all three."

Because a punter effects the game in ways that don't get noticed. They're often under appreciated because nobody likes to see their team punt, yet they can influence the outcome of a game by flipping field position and pinning teams deep.

He averaged nearly 1 punt per game pinning opposing teams inside their own 20 yard line. 2nd most total yardage overall punting wise. Because of longevity and skill at an undervalued and under appreciated position, I think he is well deserving of the vote.

Coach Mackey seems to feel you have the same potential as a Coach and has asked that I reach out and try to bring you into the fold here in St. Paul.

I'd like to commit to you as our offensive coordinator for 4 years at 5MM per season. If that's acceptable to you, I also intend to spend some of our off season money to provide you with training in regards to offensive schemes, concepts and positions.

Is that something that would interest you?"

If anyone outside of my division is interested in acquiring the rights to AMC, get in touch with me. So far I've had one offer, and I'm going to be speaking with Mike Maker in my team thread soon enough to get a feel for what they'd be willing to accept location wise.

But yeah. Obviously for a player of AMC's caliber I'm going to want more than a 4th rounder or some mid tier picks. So, keep that in mind if you do have interest.

"We're definitely going to be investing in the defense. I know from the outside looking in things look like they're a mess right now. But we've got the financial flexibility to sign quality players, and I have been given a substantial sum of money to dedicate toward scouting this offseason. The way this team looks on both sides of the football currently will not be the way it looks when the season starts.

I hope that gives you the assurance that you are looking for."

1 - Bernard McCarthy
2 - Burton Tibbetts
3 - Benson Stark
4 - Curt Robles
5 - Hector Houser
6 - Jeremy Martin
7 - Joseph Herzog
8 - Alberto Kidwell
9 - Hitomi Aoki
10- George Carlson

My ballot based off of what I've been able to gather from the chatter of other GM's, as well as what I've witnessed in my two seasons so far. Might not be perfect, probably a lot will disagree with Hitomi being on the ballot but if a punter is going to get in it should be him.

"Hey Richard, thanks for taking the call. I can't begin to tell you how impressed I was with the work you did with our d-line and linebackers last season in Cleveland. I firmly believe the production out of all of our starters was at the level it was because of the work you did.

Last season I know you wanted to take on the role as a Defensive Coordinator and the pieces of the puzzle didn't quite fall into place for you. I'd like to extend that opportunity to you now. Come in, work with the guys that we've got here on defense and help to mold it the way you best see fit. I committed to Coach Mackey long term because I believed in him, and I feel the same way about you.

4 years, $6.5MM dollars and I will give you every opportunity to establish yourself as a premiere defensive mind and help you in any way I can when you feel you are ready to move on from the coordinator position to a head coaching position of your own."

I'm legitimately thrilled to have you here. Your offense was one of the few that made me want to pull my hair out last season so it will be good to have you on my side for once.

"Coach Mackey, I can't tell you how much of a fan of your work as both a player and a coach that I am. Now, I've done my research and I know that you were itching to be a head coach last year and probably should have been a shoe in for the job with the Dragons but, instead, Coach Swope ended up there.

Now I mean no disrespect to him. He's a legend in and of his own right. But I know that had to have stung some. I say all that because from the moment I took this job with St. Paul I had my eyes on one man to be the coach of this team. That's you. Because of the way this team was abandoned and then mismanaged, it's not the perennial power that it could have been. But this is the place that Coach Swope left to go take the job that could have, and should have been yours.

I left the comforts of Cleveland and the impressive team on both sides of the ball that I helped to build there, my own home town, to come here and rebuild this franchise from the ground up. And you know, I don't think there is any better way to show New Jersey what they missed out on in their head coaching search, than to take the job the man they selected had held and do even BETTER with it, building it from the foundation.

Long story short. I want you to be the head coach of the St. Paul Lynx for the foreseeable future. I know it doesn't have the glitz and the glamor that other jobs may have at this moment. But I've been given the finances to make sure we have the tools to establish sustained winning here. So, my question for you, is what it will take to get you to sign on the dotted line?

My vote went to Crowder for one reason. Star QB went down during the stretch run for the playoffs and Music City still managed to clinch their playoff spot while having to play other teams that were also fighting for their playoff lives in the final few weeks.

Second for me is Swope for doing the most with, on paper, the least.

Third would be Rudino because... well... 15-1 and most of those games weren't even close.

Polling Place / Re: S11 AWARDS: EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
« on: June 03, 2019, 08:05:13 AM »
I think a case could be made for Pancho to win it this year for no other reason than he should have won it last year. When his team went on a run to end S10 I don't think any of us saw it as that squad become this massive juggernaut, but more his team getting hot at the right time. Obviously that was wrong but when we look at his team this year, compared to last year, there's not been a lot of pieces he added to the squad (outside of Mantalban). Unfortunately, just because of the way the chips fell, I think he kinda gets screwed.

I think you could make an argument for Jon with the additions he made but again, Seattle was already pretty good last year.

Same goes for Digger.

To me the two teams that made the biggest strides in player quality were Music City and Milwaukee. Consider that Strike turned a team that was 3-13 and with legitimately no defense in S10 into a team who finished the regular season with the 3rd best record in their conference, I think the vote has to go to him. My opinion only, and but if Pancho, Jon, Digger, Adam or Bennett were to win I think it would be fair.

But man, that kind of turn around from one season to the next seems to deserve some kind of acknowledgment.

Yeah to me it has been pretty blatantly Basham all year long. I stan for Blodgett because he really outperformed what I was expecting of him in his first season but statistically Basham was a force from start to finish.

@GMFranchise Sure if by nothing you mean build a top 5 defense in rushing, tackles for loss and sacks of which 7 of the 11 starters were brought in by me. Oh, and brought in a 66 catch, 1300 yard WR who scored 9 touchdowns. But sure, I did nothing. What do 4 seasons in Tulsa have to show for you? How about that one in my new home town?
