The High Impact Football League / GM Combine Workshop
« on: May 20, 2018, 10:56:10 AM »
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the HIFL's first ever General Manager Hiring Combine and Workshop.

Today we have hundreds of prospective general managers gathered for a series of interviews and exercises that will help determine who belongs in the front office of a HIFL Franchise, and who would be better suited for a job in the AAF or XFL.

We ask that each of you head to the stations around the facility and complete each task and submit it to the proper representative, once the combine concludes, our experts will confer and you may hear from one of the team owners around the league if they decide to offer you a job, or wish to continue the interview process in a more team-specific manor.

Good luck everyone.

OOC Boards / New GM's [Welcome, Advice, and Placement]
« on: May 20, 2018, 10:39:47 AM »
First of all to all our new GMs, Welcome to the site.

Hopefully you guys will enjoy our game and become a part of the HIFL community for seasons to come, and whether you're here for one season or 20, I look forward to the fun we'll all have here.

The advice I have to offer is simple.  Take your time, double-check your post before you hit send, and read the rules/updates and other relevant threads.  Some of the rules are later updated in future posts and I know it can be confusing, so if you have a question reach out to me or anyone else on the boards and ask.

Now, when it comes to teams, currently we have 5 mod-controlled teams.

Charlotte, St. Louis, Music City, Tombstone, and Cleveland.

Now, to determine which Gm's will land where initially (each team has their own traits/qualities they are looking for in a new hire), I'm going to do something different than usual.    In seasons past, everyone would just begin to interview in the team threads where they are interested in joining, however I'm going to change things up this time.  Think of it as a "GM Combine" of sorts.  I'll have some universal tasks for each prospective GM to complete and send to me via PM.  After I read through everyone's responses, I'll have the available teams that are interested in each GM reach out and offer a job.

Some GM's may receive more than one offer.  If you are playing this game because of one teams location/mascot/etc you're playing for the wrong reason, so hopefully you're all open to taking whatever job is available, as you can change the fortunes of a franchise rather quickly in this universe.

I'll leave this thread unlocked for the new GM's to introduce themselves and/or ask questions, as well as leaving it open for our current batch of guys to provide their own welcomes, advice, and comments.

Welcome to the show!

OOC Boards / Domain Renewal
« on: April 05, 2018, 10:20:21 PM »
Hey folks ---

Just found out the hard way that the website domain just auto-renewed thru 2020 at $160.00

As always, no pressure, but if anyone wants to help chip in on the cost I am forever appreciative.

I'll be home Saturday morning after red-eyeing across the country Friday night, so the weekend should bring a wave of HIFL action.

OOC Boards / THE FUTURE OF LIVE SIMS
« on: March 28, 2018, 01:10:20 PM »
After some concerns were voiced this week, I want you all to discuss and hash out any problems you have with us continuing to do live sims in the discord server.

Only rules here: KEEP IT CIVIL.  No need to get ugly, name calling, or any of that stuff.

Voice your concerns, or talk about the pros/positives.

The only way live-sims continue to be a regular occurrence going forward is if everyone is in agreement, because I WILL NOT tolerate anyone complaining about results/fairness going forward based on live simming games. We either agree to do them or you guys decide not to.

This addition has been added to add to the overall immersion of the league bringing it to life even more than your team threads and news do.  So if you want to continue, then agree that it can continue, if not, it ends here save for things like playoff games and the Impact Bowl, where I have done it for several seasons now, anyways.

Last note here: this isn't a situation where I am asking you all to make rules, because it is not fun for me having to mod a game and do things a way I do not want to do them.  You can all agree to handle things a certain way on your end, but I am not looking for restrictions to be placed on how I run my game.  As asshole as that may sound, it's just me being real with everyone.

OOC Boards / Rivalry Trophies
« on: March 23, 2018, 03:09:44 PM »
So, being a college football fan and all, I want to have some type of rivalry trophy/award for certain rivalries around the HIFL...

I'd like you guys to contribute ideas as well, if you want.

Here are some real world college examples --- https://www.si.com/college-football/photo/2016/11/28/ranking-college-footballs-unusual-trophies

They can be recycled version of some of these colleges (who doesn't love the Victory Bell??)  but it could also be something you cook up yourself.

Here are the rivalries I have in mind

Long Beach vs. Oakland

San Antonio vs. Tulsa

Las Vegas vs. Tombstone

Rapid City vs. Lincoln

Seattle vs. Portland

Kansas City vs. St. Louis

St. Paul vs. Milwaukee

Cleveland vs. Michigan

New Jersey vs. DC

Orlando vs. Miami

Alabama vs. Atlanta

Charlotte vs. Music City

Hello All, just a note on using your minor league talent in the pre-season.

Your salary cap will not have to be balanced during this time as it is simply a pre-season training session allowing the minor leaguers to show you what they've got on the main roster.

You WILL have to obey the 40-Man roster cap, but if you have flex spots or you "deactivate" players so that the minor league guys can play.  (note that deactivating a player can cause a problem, so make sure they dont want to participate in pre-season before you do it.)

To do any/all of this, simply post it in your lock in, not the league office.

You WILL have to be back in compliance by the time you lock in for Week 1 of the regular season.

About the HIFL / Team Sponsors
« on: January 20, 2018, 11:06:12 AM »
Alright, for the past several seasons we've had various sponsorship opportunities to reward GM's for some creative thoughts in the form of PR money an/or small boosts based on the pitch request.

However, moving forward I want the PR and Salary Caps to be the same for all teams, meaning any extra PR you receive from your owners (via contracts) or from sponsors will only be made available in the off-season.

That PR can be used for scouting, for bidding on international players (posting fees), and for recruiting pitches and the like during your ERFA and UFA periods.  Teams can still trade PR with each other, but that will be the only way to acquire additional PR relief during the regular season going forward.

There will be some regulation to the sponsorship model going forward as well.  Each team will be allowed ONE sponsor for Stadium Naming Rights which will provide PR money that you can use in the following off-season.

Each team will also be allowed ONE sponsor that will provide some sort of perk or benefit.  That could be a training camp to facilitate prospects to the teams minor league affiliate (available for signing during ERFA), or that could be a number of other ideas you may think of on your own.  Some examples of other teams past usages are:
- Team medical facility upgrades to help accelerate injury recovery.
- enhanced film room to help team gameplan better
- upgraded private jet to help team morale on road games and assist with endurance recovery

These are just a few ideas, this is where you can get creative and if I like it and its something I can do, then we can do it.

Your reputation, job security, and team's prestige and trajectory will directly impact the success of your pitch.  If you're 1-15 the year prior, you're not going to score a big prestigious endorsement, so keep your expectations tempered.

OOC Boards / UDFA / UFA
« on: January 14, 2018, 12:20:48 PM »
Alright guys, I've received a few PM's overnight which showed a misunderstanding in what I said in the shoutie.

When I said "dont send me anything until I say to do so" I was referencing the pitches for UFA.

So far all you should have sent me was Your top 3 UFA Targets (for our day 1 mechanic) and your UDFA (Undrafted free agents) list/offers

I'm going to extend the UDFA offers for a few more hours today for those of you who didnt send them overnight because you thought I was saying not to send me ANYTHING. PERIOD.   Apologies for the misunderstanding.

About the HIFL / New Tasks for Season 10 and beyond
« on: January 12, 2018, 01:52:33 PM »
Coming Soon - There will be new details here about new tasks for each GM moving forward.

13
About the HIFL / Undrafted Free Agency Protocol (Season 10 and beyond)
« on: January 12, 2018, 11:22:54 AM »
Starting at the conclusion of the S10 Amateur Draft teams will be permitted to PM me ONE message with offers for up to 10 undrafted free agents.

This PM should be formatted as follows.

<Subject>  UDFA Offers from [team name here]

<body> [Team name here makes the following offers]

[position] player A - 2 years, 250K [role with team IE: Starter, Backup, Minor League]

[position] player B - 1 year 250K [role with team IE: Starter, Backup, Minor League]

[position] Player C - 3 years, 500K [role with team IE: Starter, Backup, Minor League]

UDFA is not necessarily first come, first serve. It is more so decided on region and job.  A player is more likely to accept a UDFA offer from a local team than a team across the country, but if that other team is offering more money and/or a spot on the active roster, they may be more inclined to sign elsewhere.  You only get one PM to make your UDFA offers this way.  Mistakes and a lack of proper formatting or information requested will result in losing this first shot at undrafted free agents.

After UDFA ends all remaining undrafted free agents go right into UFA with the rest of the unsigned players.

Any question?

OOC Boards / Draft pick correction from S9 Trade
« on: January 02, 2018, 03:03:34 PM »
I have made the following changes (corrections)

When San Antonio sent a 5th round pick (Lincolns by way of the Marcus Lawrence trade) to Miami last season, I sent San Antonio's 5th to Miami instead.

That was the pick just traded to St. Louis, so I have corrected the problem, returning San Antonio's original 5th, moving Lincoln's 5th to Miami, then trading it to St. Louis.

The changes have been retroactively corrected in your team threads that listed your teams available draft picks.

Thank you to Jon for pointing out the mistake.

The High Impact Football League / 2019 (S10) HIFL AMATEUR DRAFT
« on: December 31, 2017, 04:13:02 PM »

ROUND 1  1. QB - Keenan Daley , 2. DT - Talon Wilkinson II, 3. CB - James Porter, 4. QB - Tommy Mazza, 5. WR - Steven Jackson, 6. QB - Robert Marshall, 7. G - Patrick Ortiz, 8. T - Gary Fenton, 9. FS - Harry Abel, 10. LB - Robert Capps, 11. T - Melvin Savage, 12. RB - Shane Christie, 13. QB - Michael Meek, 14. WR - James Booth, 15. DE - David Nutt, 16. RB - Forest Walker, 17. DRAFT RULES:

1. All GM's MUST submit a proxy list of no fewer than the number of players between the current draft pick and the position where your team next picks. (within that current round + 1/2)

2.Rounds 1-3 will have a 24 hour time limit. Rounds 4-7 will have a 12 hour time limit. If you do not have your proxy list AND do not draft before time expires you will be penalized by losing your draft pick for that round, and will not get it back, there are no "make up" picks.

3. Do not send proxy lists to ANY other GM, only to me.  Proxy picks by other GM's will not be counted and you will forfeit your draft pick immediately, as will the proxy picking GM who makes the post. (GM making the pick for you will be treated as making a pick out of turn.)

4. Drafting out of turn will result in a league fine AND forfeiture of the draft pick in question.

5. Typos in the draft will be in character, be careful.

6. If a drafted player refuses to sign, they become a restricted free agent, meaning the team who originally drafts the player has the right to match any agreed upon contract (within a 24 hour window of the contract being submitted to the league office). A player refusing to join the team after being retained via restricted free agency will be forced to sit out of the league for a full season before re-entering the draft.

7. Proxy List will only be used by the mod if:
a. The Deadline to make a draft pick expires.
b. The GM informs the mod that he will not be available to draft, therefor giving the mod permission to draft immediately from the list to further the draft.

ALL GM'S MUST HAVE THEIR PROXY LISTS BUILT BY 2 JANUARY (6PM EST) OR FACE CONSEQUENCES.

Rule Change Discussion Board / Rule Amendment: (Franchise Tag)
« on: December 26, 2017, 12:18:08 PM »
So in my researching about the NFL Franchise tag (since it always gets micro tweaks they don't talk about on TV) I saw the in the NFL that when you trade "two first round draft picks" for a franchise'd player, they must be YOUR TEAMS' Original draft picks.  meaning that a team can only trade THEIR 1st round pick (and one in the next season) in order to sign a tagged player.

Currently our rules are that you just have to have two firsts to offer (any, between this year and next) and that it is your choice which 2 you surrender as the signing team.

While these rules will be used this year since we are already into the off-season, I am curious if you as the players in the game feel the rules should be amended.  I have two different options:

Amendment proposal 1:
Quote
A team may only sign a franchise-tagged player to an offer sheet if they have their own first round pick for the upcoming draft and the following season's draft.

EXAMPLE:   Team A may only sign the franchise-tagged player from Team B for Team A's S10 1st round pick and Team A's S11 1st Round pick.

Amendment proposal 2:
Quote
A team may sign a franchised player so long as they have a minimum of two first round picks over the upcoming and following season, however it is up to the team losing it's franchise-tagged player to choose which picks they will receive.

EXAMPLE: Team A signs Team B's franchise-tagged player.   Team B then chooses from the pool of Team A's available 1st round draft picks from S10 and S11, choose the 2 of their choice.

I am fine leaving the rule as is, but if you would like to weigh in and vote, you may do so in either of the proposed situations OR vote to leave things as is.

HIFL Archives / S10 Expansion Draft - Draft Thread
« on: December 19, 2017, 12:23:37 AM »
This is the draft thread for the S10 expansion draft.

Each team will post their picks here in the the thread until they are satisfied and ready to end their draft at which time they will simply post

[team name] EXITS THE DRAFT

Reminders:

- Drafting a player under contract means the expansion team assumes that contract.

- Players highlighted in teal on the first sheet are players who are protected by their team and can ONLY be selected in the first or second round.

- Protected players can only be taken if NO other player from their team has been selected, therefore if you draft a protected player in the first two rounds you must post the team they are coming from in order to avoid confusion with the other expansion teams.

- an improper draft pick is an automatic forfeit of the pick and can also result in a fine from the league office.

The draft will run until all teams are satisfied and have exited the draft.

OOC Boards / Moving on from GoDaddy Hosting
« on: December 14, 2017, 10:31:57 PM »
Everyone,

As you know, we've had this "500 error" due to godaddy having us on a bum server for the last several months.

I have researched some alternatives as web hosting sites and "Bluehost" has jumped out as a great option for us going forward.  The cost is the same for 36 months of service as what we paid last year for 1 year of Godaddy, and it offers suitable performance from what I have read up on and cross checked with Metro.

I'm going to go ahead and move the boards over from godaddy to Bluehost, and the cost is $196.00 for the 36 month package (its 160 for the 1 year, makes more sense to bulk up IMO).

Anyone wanting to help with this fee can donate to my paypal - TalonCRW@gmail.com

No pressure, as always your help is greatly appreciated but not required.  No favoritism played with those who donate vs. those who are unable to at this time.  Especially knowing its christmas, I hate to ask for any help but I am tired of godaddy and their non-sense, I've sat on the phone with them several times with customer service without any resolution, so I am ready for us to try something new.

Cheers!

« on: December 11, 2017, 11:05:19 PM »
SEASON 10 HIFL EXPANSION DRAFT RULES AND INFORMATION

The Expansion draft will take place BEFORE Exclusive Rights Free Agency and the Rookie Draft

- Each existing team will be permitted to protect 25 players from expansion.

- Protected players will not be eligible to be cut or traded until AFTER the expansion draft. Any team cutting or trading a protected player before the permitted time will be docked a draft pick, as well as facing a fine from the league.

- Expansion teams will accept and take on the current contract of any players drafted via expansion.  Free Agents drafted in the expansion draft will negotiate new contracts exclusively with the draft team, bypassing the "exclusive negotiation" period with their former team.

- Undrafted players who were left unprotected return to their original club, having never left the roster.

-------

EXPANSION DRAFT ORDER

1. Milwaukee
2. Portland
3. St. Louis
4. Charlotte

Expansion teams will immediately posses the best odds to win the #1 pick in the Rookie draft and will be entered into the draft lottery with the rest of the non-playoff teams.

-----

The Expansion draft will begin shortly after the playoff teams have ended their end-of-season talks and locked in to end Season 9.  A new thread will be posted to announce the start of the draft.

- EACH EXPANSION TEAM WILL HAVE 24 HOURS TO MAKE THEIR SELECTION. (Rounds 1-10)

- AFTER 10 ROUNDS THE DRAFT CLOCK WILL BE LOWERED TO 12 HOURS.

- TEAMS WILL BE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT A PROXY LIST TO THE MOD OR A GM NOT IN THE EXPANSION DRAFT. (Using Google Docs is a smart route)

- The draft will run until either all teams have declared themselves "OUT" of the draft

OOC Boards / S10 GM Hiring
« on: November 10, 2017, 01:10:03 PM »
Alright, So we have currently 4 GM vacancies:

Oakland
Tombstone
Atlanta
DC

We have 3 currently interested GMs

Justin, Strike, and Ed.

So far all three have expressed interest in the same team, and clearly only one is going to land the job (if nobody else from another team enters the fray)

I'm not going to do any interview/hiring for the jobs until after the Impact Bowl. I'll give everyone the same opportunity to get the job. Each team has a handful of things they are looking for, and those will not be made public until after speaking with each GM.   This way you can't tailor your vision/answers to what you think they want to hear.

Everyone will have a job so unless you're dead-set on one team and one team only, don't get too mad if you don't land your first choice!

Just an update so everyone knows what is going on with the currently locked teams.

I'm fed up with these server issues and am going to have Metro helping me to actively look for an affordable but more effective option to host our site..

I still want our own domain and hosting so I can host all the images like we do now instead of having to use a 3rd party site, but just a heads up.

I'm not sure the cost that will come with it, but I'll keep you all in the loop, cheers!

OOC Boards / Next evolution of the sim
« on: September 03, 2017, 04:43:56 PM »
Hey gents.

On 9/5 the company that created the sim that we use for HIFL is coming out with the newest installation.

This one will come with several upgrades and additions (one of my favorites is more attributes etc to better improve the depth of player skills etc)

I believe the price is going to be around $35-40 after tax, so if you guys want to upgrade for S10 and beyond, we can hopefully raise the money to get it taken care of.

I'm not going to run the new sim during this season just to keep things exactly how they have been all year, but the earlier I can get my hands on it the more fluid the transition can be (and possibly a better more in depth combine report for you all.)

If interested, the paypal email is - TalonNCSR@gmail.com

As always, no pressure, but its always exciting to improve our sim and get more out of it.

With the rising amount of injuries (there are no magic injury sliders for me to adjust to make life easier or harder on you guys) I have been considering expanding the roster.  The obvious reason for NOT doing that is that more roster means more player management and guys that you as GMs will likely never interact with since some of you only speak to a handful of your 40 man roster as is.  Making faces/personalities etc for all these guys takes time, but I also typically retire some guys early and also delete older free agents to keep the talent pool exciting and not making it so easy to go out and sign a stud to replace another injured player... with an increased roster (the sim allows me to expand to a 53 man roster vs the current 40 man we use) you would have a larger pool of talent meaning more options if you do have injuries.  (not saying they will all be studs or even great starters in general)

Here are the minimum Roster Requirements that would accompany this expanded roster.

QB minimum raises from 2 to 3.
RB remains at 3.
FB remains at 1.
TE remains at 2.
WR remains at 5.
Center remains at 2.
Guard requirement raises from 2 to 3.
Tackle requirement raises from 2 to 3.
Defensive Tackle requirement raises from 2 to 4.
Defensive End requirement raises from 2 to 3.
Linebacker requirement raises from 4 to 6.
Cornerback requirement raises from 3 to 4.
Free and Strong safety each remain at 2 each.
1 Kicker
1 Punter

Meaning at a minimum, your roster would be 49, continuing to leave you with 4 optional roster spots for other positions.

This would also result in a salary cap increase to accommodate the new salaries you would be potentially adding in the off-season.

Feel free to discuss this for a bit and eventually I will put it to league-wide vote.

The reason for the vote is that it doesnt effect me if you guys are struggling to field good teams, this is purely for you guys and a "competitive balance" of sorts.

Discuss!

About the HIFL / HIFL MINOR LEAGUE
« on: August 19, 2017, 10:59:20 AM »
Starting Season 10

The practice squad will no longer be a function of the HIFL.  Instead we will move to a Minor League development system that will allow you to get some in-season feedback to monitor the progress of your younger players/prospects and make a better use of the late round draft picks who normally sit on your bench without much chance to improve until the off-season.

The minor league (name to be announced) will give each team in the league its own minor league affiliate.  This league will be occupied by a combination of current HIFL free agents and other minor-league exclusive players who will only be used as developmental fodder. (they will only exist in the minor league and not sign with the HIFL).    Each team will be allowed to maintain TEN (10) minor league prospects.  These prospects will play as starters on your minor league affiliate in a standard 16-game system.

Every four weeks you will receive a report from your scouting director with your prospects stats up to that point so that you may monitor their progress.

After each quarter of the season there will be a "call up" period that will allow GM's the opportunity to promote player(s) from the minor league to the Main Roster.  At this time you would be required to free a roster spot(s) for the called up player.

FINANCIALS

The practice squad previously affected your salary cap directly, this will no longer be the case.
Each team's Minor League affiliate will give you a $12MM allotment in Minor League Salary.  This salary may be distributed in anyway you like, so long as no single player exceeds $3MM in salary.

The remaining players on your minor league affiliate will be signed and paid from another fund that will not concern you as General Manager.

If you "call up" or promote a player from the Minor League to the Main Roster his contract will immediately become a part of your active roster salary cap and any violations to the cap or roster size limits will be dealt with as they always have.

If you "send down" or demote a player from your active roster to the minor league his salary will come off of your books and move to the minor league cap, and will continue to be required to NOT exceed the minor league cap or max salary.

Players with PR are NOT eligible for the minor leagues.  ANY PR in a contract acts as a main-roster guarantee.

A violation of the minor league salary cap will be treated the same as a violation of the Primary salary cap and met with swift justice.

TRADING PROSPECTS

Teams have the right to trade any of their ten minor league prospects with the following warnings and conditions:

- Teams trading prospects MUST annotate any minor league players being traded so that they are not traded straight to the main roster.
Any team NOT annotating such a move risks having a roster/salary violation if the error causes an overage.  There will be no warnings or second chances here.

Example:

Quote
Tombstone trades:
Players A (minor league)
Players B (minor league)
Player C
Tombstone S11 2nd Rd. Draft Pick

San Antonio trades:
LB Myles Jack

In this scenario, Tombstone trades two minor league players, 1 main roster player, and a 2nd round pick for a main roster player.

Who can be sent to the minor leagues? (players must meet all criteria)
  • Players with less than 2 years of pro experience (rookie year + 1 year of experience after)
  • Players making $3MM or less in salary
  • Players without PR in their contract.
  • Players with 2+ years of pro experience that willingly agree to play in the minor league.
