OOC Boards / Scouting Suggestion
« on: January 30, 2018, 01:27:26 AM »
As I'm bored while waiting for everyone to lock in, I've been thinking about about scouting and the use of the scouting director. At the moment, the scouting director doesn't really add much to the mechanics of the game. My suggestion is to move the additional combine report that was introduced this year away from the combine and have a version of it during the season instead. The quality and specialisation of your scouting director could affect the number, focus and quality of the reports you get. For example: An average scout gives you around 3 reports on one position whereas an A grade scouting director might give you 5 reports on one position or 3 reports on two positions (the number of reports is an illustration and the exact number isn't important in this discussion at the moment). I think that this will move some of the scouting load away from the combine where Talon gets swamped and gives the scouting director a more important role.

An extra wrinkle could be that you tell the scout what kind of player you want instead of a position and he gives a summary of a few guys he thinks could fit your need. Eg: you need a pass rusher and the scout suggests a LB, DE and Safety who could fill the role. Obviously if you ask for a QB who runs like Ortega, passes like Pruitt and has Trevor Jose's leadershp qualities, the scout would spend the PR money you give him to take a few weeks holiday in the Bahamas before telling you that the player you want doesn't exist.

Rule Change Discussion Board / Rule Change Discussion #11 : Cut Players
« on: October 27, 2017, 07:54:23 PM »
I propose that any player that demands to be cut after the trade deadline should sit out the rest of the season. If a player doesn't get a move they want before the deadline, they shouldn't be able to stir up trouble and find a way onto a playoff team after the deadline. This rule wouldn't affect all players cut by GMs after the deadline, just the ones who request to be cut. A certain GM is missing out on the considerable value of a player simply because said player wants to play in the playoffs (despite whatever excuse he's using). That's not right and it sets a dangerous precedent.

Completed Games / Basic Mafia - Chinese Style - FALLOUT

 RULES

1. Votes must be bolded, ex: VOTE: GM Cheater. You must unvote before changing your votes, ex: UNVOTE: VOTE: Sasser.

2. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS! ONLY I CAN DO THAT IN THIS GAME! Editing will result in a modkill, THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING!

3. Role claiming is fine because roles don't get revealed upon a person's death anyway. Knock yourselves out. This means "I am a cop."

4. Character Claim at you're own risk. I'm not giving characters, so it would be a bit odd to do this.

5. Don't mod the mod.

7. Night talking is not allowed

8. Days will last 72 hours, unless a majority is reached. Nights last 24 hours or when I get all night actions.

9. If the deadline passes, the person with the most votes will die. If two people have the same number of votes (and that number is the most), they will be given one post to explain why they should live and then there will be a run-off vote to choose who dies.

10. When sending night actions, please just reply to the PM I send you. I don't want loads of extra messages.

11. Lynches are official once I call them, until then, continue to fight for you're right to live!

11.  I'll have a dead QT because no one will know what the fuck is going on when they die, but other than a BAH post, no dead talk.

13. Have fun and no complaining!

Completed Games / Basic Mafia - Chinese Style Sign Up
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:18:09 PM »
I need 9 players for this game. Sign up here.

A mafia team (3 players)
Vanilla town (3)
Witch - has 1 shot medicine and 1 shot kill
Cop - standard cop
Gun owner - chooses 1 person to take out with him if he's killed in the night.

The game starts during night 0. The mafia chooses a target, then the witch is told who they have decided to kill and gets the chance to save the person or use their own kill. The cop gets to investigate and then day 1 starts.

Roles are not revealed when someone dies.

It's a simple setup designed to last about 3 day phases.

1. Powers
2. Talon
3. Pancho
4. Jon
5. Digger
6. Gooch
7. Dougie
8. T-Bone
9. DQ

Rule Change Discussion Board / RULE DISCUSSION 3: Outsourcing PR
« on: October 22, 2016, 10:12:14 PM »
Taken from a memo sent to leage GMs:

The idea would be to introduce an option to pay a PR company to produce the player PR for you. This would obviously come with penalties such as the max level of PR being neutral and making it expensive to do. That way the people who want to be more creative would still get that advantage from writing their own PR but others would be able to take a penalty to move things along. The other advantage would come at times like now where if people miss the deadline they could be autolocked and have PR taken from their budget as a penalty.

I think the PR number would have to be set high enough to prevent PR companies being the easy option but at a level which won't penalize GMs with too many other commitments too much. I also think that this should be an all or nothing option.

4 million PR seems about right.

Random Topics and Conversations / New Laptop
« on: July 17, 2016, 02:34:28 AM »
I need a new laptop, but I don't know anything about computers. I'm looking for a mid-range sort for 5000RMB (I'll look up what that is in USD a bit later). Any advice would be appreciated.

Random Topics and Conversations / Computer Games

I'm sure most of us spend a lot of time playing them, so we should probably have a topic to talk about them in. I'll start off by asking for advice. I just sold my PS3 and want to upgrade to the next gen. Should I get a PS4 or X-box? I don't think that most of the media stuff will work over here in China, so I'm not really interested in Netflix or any of that sort of stuff. I'm more interested in the gaming experience and which one has better exclusives.

Welcome to ESPN SPORTS / Unnamed Soccer Sim
« on: August 22, 2015, 05:36:36 AM »
Setting up the league on the sim is coming to the final stages. I'm currently setting up the teams but I don't really have any feeling about or connection to any cities to include. The league will be a North American league, so mostly from USA but I'd also like a couple of teams from neighbouring countries. I could just pick cities at random, but I'd be open to suggestions. Just because you suggest a city does not mean you will automatically get to manage the team, though.

Random Topics and Conversations / NFL in London
« on: April 25, 2015, 02:40:51 AM »
I have read that the NFL are planning 3 more games in London and are in advanced discussions about a possible London franchise to enter the league in 2020. Thoughts?

Random Topics and Conversations / TV Shows
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:56:07 AM »
What shows are you currently watching on TV? Would you recommend anything that the rest of us might have overlooked? I've been watching  a lot of Black Sails and Alpha House. Black Sails is a prequel to Treasure Island (set twenty years before the events in the book). It's far better than Crossbones and not just because it has lots more nudity. Alpha House is a political comedy starring John Goodman. It's made by Amazon, which is something I didn't realise they did. Even though I know very little about American politics, I'm really enjoying the show.

Any suggestions about what else I should be watching?
