Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?

What a game! I'm proud of our guys for playing hard! Our offense was smooth and our defense was stifling. I like that both of the players of the game were St. Paul players. I couldn't be happier with our effort and our result.

I love playing at home in front of our great fans. Big ups to Best Buy and ADIDAS for all of their support. It's great to have sponsors that are invested in our franchise's success.

Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the toughest thing to prepare for this week?

This week we play a double tough San Antonio team. Three weeks in a row they've had over 400 yards in offense and put up at least 30 points. I believe our defense will stifle that. They are also giving up over 20 points a game. I believe if our team plays like they did today, that we have a good chance of being the first team to knock of a strong San Antonio team.

Let's put the brakes on that. I would like for you to let the team know that we need to execute our playbook effectively or we will have to make a change. You don't have to go into specifics. It's not a threat by any means, but we have to do something about our offense. This change may be needed unless we can get things to click.

How do you feel about our team intelligence and work ethic? Do you think if we have players that have good football IQs and a work ethic that we could adjust accordingly? I know you don't have a crystal ball, but you've been a coach for a long time. Do you think this is a risk worth taking? I feel we need to change things up for the positive. I'd like to talk it out, what are the positives and negatives of the west coast?

I see. I still believe that John Carr is a top tier QB, we just have to put him in a position to succeed. Last year, about this time, we did something drastic and it paid big dividends. We made some big trades that really put us in a good position. I'm not looking to make trades right now, but I think changing up our offensive playbook could make a big change for us.

I want us to change over to a West Coast offense, but here is the difference. I want us to keep our run game up. This would put Carr in a position to succeed. His short passes are on point. We have some really good receivers and a running back with good hands. The emphasis would be on short passes, but we would be running more than the traditional West Coast Offense.

What do you think of this? If you think it's worth a shot, I'll iron everything out with Seaton.

The line doesn't look bad. I'm pleased to hear about the lack of sacks. A QB always struggles when he has to run for his life every play. It's still early in the season, hopefully everything can gel together.

We are really, really struggling with the long ball this year. Carr doesn't have a strong arm. Do you think we should cut back further on the longer throws and just focus on short passes. Almost like a West Coast offense, but not sacrificing our run game for it. Do you think Back and Kidwell could still flourish in that type of playcalling?

This could be a very good matchup for us.

I liked what I saw with going short yardage with Carr this week. I think we should continue in that direction with him and let him build his confidence up.

I think Carr is going to pull out of the slump, AMC is producing, but I'm seeing a lot of issues when it comes down to our offensive line. Who do you think is the weakest link? What is our greatest strength and weakness? Collectively or individually is fine.

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?

We played a very good football game. We just couldn't put points on the board. DC is a well coached team and they have Omar Sasser. Two years in a row in the same game, his golden boot has been what has cost us a victory in the final moments. I am pleased that our offense moved the ball better, but we have to have points to win ball games. Our defense was just as stifling as ever and put on a great performance.

2. Which of your division rivals has surprised you the most so far this season?

Milwaukee has. They are well ahead of where everyone intended for them to be. I have to tip my hat to GM Strike Guy.

3. With where you sit in the standings, do you feel it is a true reflection of your team? Where do you feel you should stand, and who on your team is most responsible for your current standing?

I do not feel it is a true reflection of this team by any means. The reason our team is stalling right now is the offense. John Carr and Jesus Dyer have to continue to step their games up. An offense thrives off of an efficient passing game and a kicking game that can be relied upon. For the majority of the season now we haven't been able to rely on the passing game or the kicking game. We have a receiving corps that is the envy of most teams in the HIFL. Are there drops? Sure, there are. But with so many incomplete passes, the blame can't go on the WRs even with a few drops. We have to get the ball to them. Dyer is on pace for his worst season and we aren't 5 weeks in. We need both of these guys to step up and help produce points. Our defense is doing their job and doing it well. Our biggest need is points.

I still believe in this team and I'm not going to give up on them. Last year we were in a similar situation and ended up just fine. I think this team has something special they can bring to the table and I'm excited to see how we do this week. We are going to take this season one game at a time. This week Michigan has our complete and undivided attention.

4. What has been the biggest challenge for your team so far this season, and who would you say was your teams' most improved?

Scoring points. We have to have points to win ball games. When it comes to most improved, I'm very pleased with Michael Damon's play. When we lost Greenwood, he stepped up in the depth chart and has proven to be a player who is hungry to improve and contribute to this team.

5. Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the toughest thing to prepare for this week?

We play Michigan this week and we finally get to play at home. Three weeks in a row of road games are difficult on anyone. I'm glad we will be playing at home even if it is against Michigan. I believe we stack up well against Michigan and this can be a good home victory. The toughest thing for us to prepare for is getting to our true form. We've had hiccups over the past few weeks and I hope that getting to stay at home will help us get back into the rhythm that we can be in. I hope to see our defense continue to dominate and for our offense to put up points. This season sure isn't over and we have great chance to right our path this week against a strong Michigan football team.
----------------------------
I thought we had that one, Coach. Two years in a row of Sasser at the last minute. We played hard and our offense did better, we just need more points.

This week we take on Michigan, of course. Our offense has been anemic, but so has their defense. How does our offense match up to their defense?

I am for continuing it because it adds more depth to a rich game. I agree about the incentive to lock in in a timely manner.

I would like to add if you are "watching a game" talk about that game and not use that thread for the purposes of the general thread. It can get confusing/distracting when guys are talking about other things when the focus should be on Talon posting and simple comments about that. That's my opinion.

I hope we can get him comfortable again in the pocket.

Outside of that, I can't think of any offensive changes to look at.

We have a test against Tank Mixon this week. How does our run defense look this year, statistically. How does our defense look against their offense, collectively?

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?

We fought hard this week. The fans in Milwaukee were rabid out there. Top Gun Night was a great concept and it got the fan base and their team fired up. I have to humbly tip my hat to GM Strike Guy. He is building a very strong team and I look forward to great games between our teams in the future. What went wrong with this game is we weren't able to capitalize on points and we had more turnovers. What went right is that we held one of the most explosive offenses to a season low in overall yardage and held them to 65 yards rushing. Our defense played strong, but for a team to have victories everything has to run smoothly like a machine.

As some of you saw on Twitter, GM Strike Guy was true to his word. I was not allowed to be in the luxury box that is usually reserved for opposing GMs. This gave me an opportunity I am not normally able to take, I was able to walk the sidelines with my team. I want to admit that I was disappointed to see Steven Jackson injured early. He and Daniel Maxley were doing battle. I saw a young man who is large, physical and fast. There was a play close to our sideline and I was able to see the fire in his eyes. He wasn't trash talking. He was focused on the game of football. He's going to be a different breed of player and it's a shame we didn't get to see him and Maxley battle all game. Lavar Jackson is right, Steven is a very talented, focused young man. If you ever hear me bring up his name, it will have respect on it. In one quarter, I became a believer.

I have to admit my fault this week. If you have followed my GM career all the way back to S5 in Missouri to Last season, I never talked about the Impact Bowl. We always put a focus on the next game. The next play. The next block. The next pass. The focus was on doing your job to the best of your ability on the next play. I have taken what has been an effective way of focusing on the team and I've taken the focus off of the next game. From now on, our focus will be on the next week. Our 100% laser focus will be on picking apart our opponents for the next week.

2. How do you feel about the emergence of the Alliance of American Football and the XFL?

I feel it could be good because more players are able to get professional reps, but I feel like it could be a big problem when it comes to finances. With more teams there is more competition. All it takes is for both of these leagues to have an insanely high cap and great players will flood to the money. Competition is good, but the HIFL will have to find a way to best compete with new leagues to bring in the best talent.

3. Talk about something going on around the league this season that has interested you in one way or another.

The Baron's singing to us that we've lost that loving feeling. That's still ringing in my ears as we speak. The St. Paul Lynx have not lost that loving feeling, I guarantee you that. But I'm sure our Coaches, Captains and players will be able to use it for an extra bit of motivation. Our team is a great team who are piecing some things together. I would be cautious of

I'm also surprised how some fans in Rapid City are turning against Coach McCarthy so quickly. The man has brought them two rings in a row and after a sputter out the gate, much like many good teams this year, they are questioning his commitment. I believe it's a bit too early to talk Coach issues when we've only played 3 games. If your team is "sliding" support them, cheer for them louder when they are at home. Support them on social media. Encourage your team.

4. Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the key to victory?

We play a very strong DC team this week. The key to victory will be for our offense to click and for our defense to keep Sasser out of field goal range. His golden boot beat us this time last year with a kick of over 60 yards. We get to play in front of our great home fans this week. I'm looking forward to us playing every play to the best of our ability. 100% of our focus goes on the Cobras this week. Let's win one in front of our home fans.

----------------------------------------------------------

Alright Coach, our focus goes to this week. We play DC at home. I'm thinking that putting a focus on our short passes might help get Carr out of whatever funk he's in. His strength has never been the long ball, so let's do what his strength is. How does DC's defense do against the pass? Is there a statistic for how they do against a short pass?

Nope, I am sorry that is how you took that. It's apparent that you men work well with our coaching staff. We've won over 20 games in two season and have had 3 great games to begin this season. It's going to be deafening in Milwaukee and I want us really hyped up. That's all. They are going to throw all they have at us this week. Their fans are going to be stirred into a frenzy for Top Gun Night. I want the Barons stifled and their fans silenced. I know you do a great job each week working with the staff and young players...I just wanted to impress how important this is in that I do not want them to think this is a rivalry. I want it to be an out and out domination. This isn't a rivalry. They aren't at our level. They won't get to our level. We are our own level. Let's take care of business!

Elsa, please call in the captains.

Gentlemen. Last week was an anomaly and will be treated as such. I don't think that we've even seen the best that this team can offer. We are an Impact Bowl caliber team and this week is our march to proving it.

This week is a big week, not because of who we are playing but because of what we are up against. This will be Milwaukee's first home game and the fans are going to be at a fever pitch. I DO NOT want the record book to say that the first victory of the Barons franchise was against this St. Paul Lynx football team...we need to be ready and bring a great intensity to this game. I want us to score early and often. I want us to stifle the offense that they take so much pride in. I want us to dominate them in every way...and I know we can.

Can I lean on you to work with the coaching staff to get the team revved up to dominate this week?

I agree. I'm disappointed in how Mel has not progressed and I'm not pleased that Torres is injured more often than not. I have some good kids signed in the minors and my hope is develop them and have a line that can gel over a few years time.

AMC is an amazing back. Great hands, great speed, improved strength. What do you think his hold up is from getting those great, breakaway runs?

That's a fair assessment. I'm going to briefly talk to some of the guys and then you'll have them for the rest of the week. Let's go out and get a dominating victory.

Elsa, please call in Coach Seaton

Hey Coach, thanks for coming in. The first 3 games this season were stellar. Just had a hiccup this week. A lot more incompletions than normal. What would you say was Carr's issue? Just an off day, poor blocking, playing a stout defense, or did he have trouble with our playbook?

I like our match up. I don't plan on making any changes to our game play. Unless you see something I dont see, it looked like an execution thing on offense.

How is Carr doing? I hoped to motivate him. That game was an anomaly, but I need him with laser focus. How is his morale?

I felt bold words were needed. I believe in this team and felt a bold statement was what was needed. I'm a calm man, but I do have fire. I want is to pick up this win this week and get back on track and do it resoundingly.

How does out defense match up against their offense?

Talk us through this week's game. What did you like, what do you want to see improved?

This week was odd all the way around. A lot of top teams had odd things happen. I can't put my finger on it. I liked Roger Quick's return. That was probably my favorite part of the game. We had some big hits on defense. Things just didn't click this week. I'm confused as to why it didn't click, but I'd rather have this eye opening loss early in the season and scare ourselves straight. I want us to get back to playing how we've played the past few weeks. This was an oddity. Not a symptom of a problem. I still have full faith in everyone on my team. This is a team that I believe will be representing the East in the Impact Bowl.

Through two games this season, who's surprising you for the better, and for the worst?

Roger Quick is the guy who is surprising me the most. Remember, this is a guy who played out of position all last year. This is his first year playing at this position and I'm pleased with his efforts in the slot and I'm impressed with his efforts as a returner.

I'm still in shock over John Carr's performance this week. The media calls it a lemon. I call it an oddity. But he is our franchise QB and I believe this will be the only game he has like this. Everyone has an off day. I'd rather see a bunch of incompletions in week 2 and see him dust himself off this week and have a stellar year through the Impact Bowl. He's a character guy and I believe this game is going to elevate the rest of his season and our team is going to elevate their play. We have 3 good games to start this season out, including the preseason, this anomaly is going to be motivation.

Which one-part of your team do you believe is only going to get better going forward?

I think the passing game is going to drastically improve. Look at our QB. Look at our receiving corps. I believe we are going to smoke just about everyone for the rest of the year. John Carr is our man and he's going to have his best season yet. I just know it.

Talk about your news story this week.

I've already addressed it pretty thoroughly. I don't agree that all the blame goes on John Carr though. We, collectively, put up a lemon against a powerful division rival. It won't happen again.

Talk about at least two other news stories this week.

I feel for David Nutt. Looks like he got roughed up and we just don't know why yet. Nothing good happens when you are out late. I hope this causes a man with great potential to reassess his evening activities and focus on winning football games instead of having a night life.

I disagree with Barry's remarks against GM Gates. Barry made an illegal and ugly hit and GM Gates, apparently, is not going to challenge the suspension. Barry's unsportsmanlike hit has potentially ended the career of a player that meant a lot to a division rival. Sebastian has played football long enough to know not to lead with your head. He's played football long enough to know the rules. I personally think that the league was lenient on him and I want to give GM Gates kudos for letting his player know that this was uncalled for, even if he won't admit it to himself. That hit was dirty football. The real betrayal here isn't Gates to Barry. Barry is Barry's own enemy right now. Be a man. Admit you did wrong. Sit at home and get motivated to come back and play clean football.

I got a kick out of Lavar Jackson saying his son isn't getting enough touches. The kid had a good game, led the team with receptions and yards and it still wasn't enough...but they are going to wish for that sort of production this week. Our defensive front is going to put pressure on Marshall all game. If he isn't sacked, he's going to make bad passes and Maxley, Damon, Davis, Roderick and Brock are going to bat balls down left and may even pick off a few, by the time this week is over.

Talk to us about your match up this week, how do you rebound from defeat?

We go play St. Paul Lynx football and we dominate Milwaukee. John Carr is going to have a lights out game. We are going to see big games from our WR Corps. I think we are going to see our defense stifle Marshall and we're going to see his Steven Jackson's daddy go on a tirade next week about how his boy isn't getting a fair shake.
Milwaukee's fans are ready for their home opener, their stadium will be beautiful. But they will not get that first home victory. Even on an off game, this defense didn't allow Caleb Smoak to throw for 250 yards...I only imagine what we are going to do this week. I want a decisive St. Paul Lynx victory to get us back on track and we're going to have to ruin someone's time to do it. Expect a dominating victory.

That they are. Ezekiel Elliot is a full grown man. I've liked our blitz the past few games, but I also know with blitzing we are left vulnerable to the run in some cases. Do you think we should back off the blitz some to ensure that we are ready to stop the run?  Would there be any benefit to that mindset or do we want to keep things how they are because they are working? What's your opinion?

Coach Stark's words were kind about you and well deserved. You are a fantastic coach and I want you to return. Last week you said you wanted to wait until after the Impact Bowl to talk about your contract extension, and I will respect that. But I want to make abundantly clear that my desire is to resign you to a long term deal. If you get tired of hearing your name in the news, let's talk contracts, but if it's not bothering you, then we can keep our focus on this season and making it to the Impact Bowl. You know my appreciation for you and I like your vision for this franchise and I want to keep that.

Who surprised you the most this week in our game? Who played better than you expected.

Oh, I have no intentions of any changes and the plan is to continue to be the force that is the St. Paul Lynx with Coach Swope as this franchise's head coach. My 100% desire is to resign Coach Swope long term. He and I have had a conversation, but all of our attention is going toward this season and the Impact Bowl.

1. Talk us through this week's game. What did you like, what do you want to see improved?

We executed our game plan to near perfection. We moved the ball. We stopped their offense. They wanted to test our defense and see if we could stop the run and we did a good job of that. Our offense scoring early and forced New Jersey to throw to try to stay up. Huge games from a lot of our men today.

I would like to see fewer penalties. Penalties can be the difference in a game winning touchdown or 3rd and long in a tight spot. We need to cinch up and play clean, hard hitting football. I understand an occasional mishap, that's football, but I don't like seeing us having more penalties than the other team, especially in a game that we seemingly had well in hand.

2. What did you make of your teams performance, despite the final outcome of the game?

We are riding a wave of momentum. Last year we were still getting out of the gates and this year we are playing more cohesive football. I am extremely pleased with our performance.

3. Are there any major changes you see yourself making this week?

I don't see any reason to. We are firing well.

4. Talk about at least two news stories from this week.

The Ackerman hit was saddening. The league has already leveled a penalty, but I wouldn't be surprised if GM Gates laid down a further penalty after all is said and done. Ackerman's livelihood could very well be taken away because of a hit like this. Gates is a man of principle and I would be shocked if we see Berry play again until half way through the season. Sebastian Berry has played football long enough to know that that was an illegal hit. You don't lead with your head. There is no place in football for that. None at all. Rivalry or not. The HIFL takes pride in good, solid football not cheap shots.

I was happy to see Hagan and Wilson getting love in the news for the intense pressure they put on New Jersey this week. Our team played great football and seeing them get national credit for a job well done made this GM happy. Last year we struggled to put pressure on anyone and allowed big runs. I'm happy to see not only have we improved in that department but the national media notices the improvements.

I heard the words from Coach Stark about Swope. Great to hear a mentor show love to their protege especially after a lopsided victory. Many coaches would be bitter, but Coach Stark is a class act. I have heard there is a desire from the fan base to bring Coach Swope back to New Jersey even though Stark hasn't officially said he is retiring. I feel bad for a coach like Benson Stark who has brought so much to the New Jersey franchise and hearing fans clamoring about bringing back a previous coach to have success. I know the New Jersey fans won't listen to me, but I feel they should hope that Coach Stark stays. GM Kirk is rebounding that franchise and they will be a power again in a few seasons time. I imagine if we put Kirk on the spot, he would say he wants Coach Stark to stay instead of bringing in a new staff.

But I digress. Coach Swope is in a contract year and can go where ever he wants to go after this because...well, that's how contracts work. Coach Swope is one of the best coaches in the HIFL and is one of the big reasons we have had the success we have had. He gets the most out of players, and here in St. Paul we have great players. I can confirm that Coach Swope and I have had a brief conversation about the future, but the 100% of our focus goes on this season and doing great things with our franchise in S10.

5. Talk to us about your match up this week.  Where do you see your opponent having an advantage? What is the key to victory?

We play an extremely tough Cleveland team this week. They are very talented and they are well coached. Their offense is explosive and their defense is dynamic. On defense, the key to victory for us this week will be to stop Ezekiel Elliot early and often, to disrupt Caleb Smoak with pressure and let our Ball Hawks bat down balls or pick them off. On offense, we have to keep doing what we are doing. We've had 3 very good offensive games. We will need our best game as Cleveland is the toughest team we have played so far.

That's fair. I look forward to it.

Back to the business at hand, we have New Jersey this week in our home opener. After watching their games, I'm not sure I see anything we need to change. Do you perceive anything in our defense being vulnerable to any of their strengths?

I read in the news that New Jersey fans are wanting you to come back with Stark's coming retirement. I would like to go ahead and squelch that and offer you a contract to begin S11. I want you to stay with St. Paul for the long term. I would like to make you an offer. Would you be interested in 5 years at $14.5mm?

1. Talk about your off-season, what did you like, what did you not like?
I feel good about our offseason. I feel really good about our offseason. We re-signed Carr and Back to big extensions. We brought in marquee guys like Waylon Hagan, Alberto Kidwell, Austin Wertz, John Peyton and Carlos Gallaraga. We picked up Kicker Jesus Dyer. Dyer only missed one FG last year. That's clutch. In watching the preseason games, I believe we already saw some positive, immediate effects in areas that needed attention. Our run defense is improved and our offense had a flow to it. I made some good trades, but the part that it's hard to like is losing good players. It was hard to lose some of the guys to work on what we needed. But, that's how football and trades go. Good, honest trades mean you are giving something up to gain something you want in return.

2. How much stock do you put into your teams preseason performance?
I put some stock into it, I do. I put stock into in that it isn't just a warm-up. Some teams treat it as a time to let everyone get a few reps. We didn't do that. We went out with our starters to gel them together. I believe we are going to into a difficult 5 game stretch with more momentum and synergy than many teams in the league.

3. What did you gather from your preseason games?
I liked what I saw. Last year our run defense suffered throughout the season. In these two games our defense held both teams to under 100 yards.  I liked the production of our offense. I think that we are carrying some momentum into the season. Not counting the scoop and score, our defense gave up a total of 13 points. I like that. I want to see more of that. I like that McCaffrey was the leading rusher in both games. I liked seeing Rangi trucking folks. We have a prolific passing game, but I like the dynamic of speed and power that we will see that McCaffrey, Rangi, and Peyton bring to the table. Our passing game was solid and our running game was solid. Our offensive line let those things happen.

4. What is something you'd like to see your team improve over what they did in the preseason?
I don't like how many fumbles I see on our stat sheet. We have to protect the ball and not give away easy turnovers. We fumbled the ball 5 times, lost 3 of those fumbles and one of them ended up being returned for a TD. I don't want us to give up easy points.

5. Who was your MVP of the preseason?

I would have to say John Carr. He is throwing is laser like accuracy to multiple receivers. He threw for over 400 yards in these games. He had a great passer rating in both games. Carr is already in the zone and receivers are ready to catch, that should be scary to opposing teams. If teams decide to sit back and wait for the pass: AMC, Rangi, and Peyton will make them regret it.

6. What is your season objective this year, and where do your see yourself finishing the season?

My main objective is to win the East and I see the St. Paul Lynx heading to the Impact Bowl, but I know it won't be easy. We are going to earn it. This is one of the most talented teams in the HIFL and we have a great coaching staff. We have the toughest 5 game streak of anyone in the league. We don' get cupcakes in the Northeast. The Northeast Division is the hardest in football and I think we can end up not only on top of the Northeast but on top of the East overall.

------------------------------
Coach, I liked what I saw. I liked that we played with intensity. The press just asked me who our MVP was, who were you the most impressed with on offense and defense?
