WEEK TWO

1. Talk about the last series. What was the highlight of the weekend for you?
We played really well. Some good baseball, great defense, great offense. Pizz is tearing the cover off the ball right now and is an absolute pleasure to watch at the moment.

2. Talk about the incoming draft class, do you feel it's too early for players to have to choose this soon into the season on college or the pros?
I don't know - I think as a high-schooler that's going to be a tough choice regardless of when you have to make it. For many it's a childhood dream to play in the pro's and I've always fully supported that but I understand the pressure of also going to college and the life experience that brings and that it maybe vaults your career as well with a couple good seasons.

3. How do you feel about the potential changes the league is looking into?
I think I'll be better able to comment once they're released.

4. Talk about your opponent this week. What will be the key to victory?
Same as this week, get on the sticks early, have our starters pitch deep and then lock it down.

1. Talk about last weeks game. (typical what went right / wrong depending on a win or loss)
That was a game I felt like if we took it we were right back in the thick of things. One of those games that we had to have and we didn't come out in the first half with the focus we needed to have. We got shredded with the deep ball and didn't play well on offense. I do want to give a shout out to a couple players for never saying die; Danny Edelman had what, four chase down tackles to save touchdowns that at least kept things reasonable? And Robert Tyler continues to get into the backfield to make plays.

2. What are your thoughts on Hilton Keegan and others skipping this Rookie Showcase and committing to either the XFL or AAF?
I think they're good football players. I think each person has to make what they feel is best for their career and them personally.

3. What are you hoping to gain from this weeks Showcase?
I think some insight into a couple positions we'll be looking to make moves at in the off-season. We've got a lot of expiring deals, especially on the offensive side of the ball so it's going to be a busy time for our scouting staff.

4. What did you schedule for your players during the bye week? Training or a week off?
I think everyone here needs to take a week off to evaluate things. We're 2-4 and we've pushed these guys and it hasn't necessarily worked. Maybe a week off will give us some clarity and bring everything back into focus.

5. Talk about anything else on your mind in reference to the league/sport.
I'm really just focused on the showcase and what we're going to look like at the end of the season; chumps or champions.

GM Greenside and I have both talked about our mutual admiration for Dotson. I do agree on them being crafty and making the money work would be difficult. I'll reach out and see what we can do though if there's other names that come to mind. The other thing I wanted to ask about was the guys you had at Washington that declared for the draft. Not an urgency but maybe over the next couple of weeks if you find yourself with a bit of time to jot down a couple notes about guys you think might fit here that'd be great.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: February 08, 2019, 09:38:33 AM »
That's fair. Coach Graham and I have spoken about something similar in the past. I think this week we're going to be running our normal scheme and then with the break, I was wondering then if you might take a look at some film and see if there's a player who might fit that role who we could target. We've done good grabbing under the radar guys that fit like Tyler, Hernandez and McKeown and I imagine that's more the area we're looking at. I know a Turnover Taylor or Andrew Roderick would be great but they're either not on the market at risk of their GM being fired or the asking price borders on what the Pelicans want for Anthony Davis. Probably a strong safety given Danny's status on this team but the right free safety I think we'd make a jump.

Chris, I just wanted to give you a shout out for your performances through five games. You've been a real leader this season and your dedication to the franchise speaks volumes. Agreed. Sorry for slipping on the Harris move. I was excited to start the season but it worked out okay for us. I don't want us to get too over-confident though. How do Cohen and Flores look this week? Any fatigue concerns? We built up some bullpen depth to make sure those arms stay fresh.

14
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM: THUNDER BAY ROAR
« on: February 05, 2019, 12:43:53 PM »
1. Talk about opening week. What did you take away from it?
We played some really good baseball. Hitting, pitching, defense. Total team effort to sweep the series.

2. Any news stories stick out to you this week?
I imagine Tuffy Rhodes or Chris Shelton would have something to say about Ricky Cruz's performance. I think you'll have players have good weeks and some games where just nothing goes right. It tends to even itself out over the course of a long season and that's the great thing about baseball.

3. Do you think there is PEDs in the game right now?
I'm sure there's someone doing it. When there's this much money and fame on the line you're going to attract desparation. I do believe the game is the cleanest it has ever been however and it's not something that keeps me up at night.

4. Talk about your opponent this week. What will you have to improve to take the series?
I think it's going to be big to get some key outs in the middle of their order late in games. Cohen and Flores did a good job this past series of locking down leads and I think that's going to be key again.

We need to keep that fire alive though - it felt like at times there that game was starting to slip but we did enough to hold on. We're going to get Orlando's best too and they do a lot of things that exploit where we've been weak this season. I think our gameplan stays the same and we just need to execute.

17
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
We managed to hang on. Tulsa's got a tough team and they made some plays this week against us but we managed to make one more when it counted. I think that's a shoutout to our defense who really gritted this one out. 400 yards is a lot but rather than give in they forced a couple turnovers which turned out to be the difference along with a big showing from Dougie.

2. Talk about the news that caught your attention this week...
We're still focused on what we need to do to firmly get this season right on track.

3. Now that you have completed your first round of divisional games, how do you rank the teams in your division and who do you believe will be the biggest threat to your goals?
I think we play in a tough division. Oakland's defense has balled out this season and San Antonio has been the bugga-boo for us over the past couple of seasons. We've got some work to do if we want to catch them and that means we've got to take care of business outside of the division against some really good football teams.

4. Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the key to victory as you step out of division for the first time this year?
I think we've got to match the desperation I expect Orlando to come at us with. We've to recall what it felt like with our back against the wall and match the intensity they're sure to bring.

Agreed - I'm thinking the 3 hole might have been too much, too soon for Harris. I'm thinking we go Ray 3, Figgy 4, Harris 5 and Roman 6 at the start of the year and let him find his groove.

22
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: January 30, 2019, 04:12:22 PM »
Thanks - that maybe makes some decisions a little harder but that's on me - not you. If we did look at safeties how would you project Danny would look as a strong safety potentially?

23
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: January 30, 2019, 03:31:01 PM »
Sounds good - I hope I don't seem to obtuse with the questions but we're still in desperate times. Last thing I wanted to ask and it's still around the strong safety position and it's how you think we'd fare with two ball hawks back deep rather than Hickey? This is more of a what if scenario but if we acquired a big corner and had to move Harris deep, or if we got a ball-hawk safety to patrol centerfield could Danny play strong safety for us? What does that look like? Again - all options on the table.

24
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: January 30, 2019, 03:03:33 PM »
Roger that - only other thing that hit me that might also be worth discussing potentially later down the line is the actual makeup of our corners. I know we liked Mojica's shut down potential but are we still confident in them as press-man type corners are or we mis-cast a little bit and much better in some zone looks.

25
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: January 30, 2019, 12:44:52 PM »
Thanks Coach. I'm thinking a 30% reduction on the 1st and 2nd down blitz ratios. It might need a bit of tweaking but I think the next two weeks are good for that. As for the matchups - thanks for the heads up. I'm sorry it'll be a pain in the ass each week having to check which side guys are lined up on but we'll work through that as we go. The only other thing I wanted to ask about was the strong safety slot this week. I'm thinking we have Harris up top in base but in the 3-3-5, what combo of Harris, Foster, and Raynor are our best bets for the nickel corner and that spot.

26
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM: THUNDER BAY ROAR

Very important. You establish the tone early it gives you momentum through the dog days of summer. It makes it a little easier to manage situations when you've started out strong and aren't playing from behind all year.

---
Ken Graham please Demi.
---
Ken, first win on the board but I didn't like some of our work on defense again. Tuscon wouldn't have historically put up 400 yards on us and all season we've been abused by the pass. We've been a historically stout defense with effectively this same crew and dictating the game to our opponents but I think we've got to start playing a little more of the matchup's. I know we talked about switching Jorge to number one and said he wasn't ready but I think we throw him into the fire and how he does on Lloyd. The other thing I wanted to talk about was how much we're blitzing and potentially drop that ratio. It's anathema to me and I'm sure it is too you but we're getting pressure from the line and to be honest Tulsa's run game doesn't scare me.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS

That's fair enough - how's Shane taken to the locker room after a full year of being in town. I know he's not necessarily the "ra-ra, go team" type but what drives him? How would he possibly react to being moved to the #2 slot to just lock that down.

29
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM: THUNDER BAY ROAR
« on: January 29, 2019, 10:44:45 AM »
1. Talk about how you feel spring training went. Who impressed you the most? Who did you feel under-performed?
I thought Isaac Marshall had a great spring - he accquitted himself quite well for a rookie. John Edwards was also great for us and we've got a lot of pitching depth this season which I think will be key for us. Adrian Harris had some struggles at the plate but he took some good hacks. We know what kind of hitter he is and once he gets settled in against pro's he'll be a good bat for us.

2. Are you going to make any roster changes before the first series of the season?
I think we'll look at who gives us the best chance to win and get the season started on the right foot.

3. As the season gets underway, where do you project this team to finish in the standings?
Talking with our coaching staff at the start of the off-season we figured we'd compete for the division. I think that's a reasonable goal with the talent and depth that we have.

4. Talk about your first opponent and the key to beating them in the three-game series.
I think getting in front early is going to be important. With our pitching depth I think we're going to be looking at getting ahead early and then letting our bullpen lock it down.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: January 29, 2019, 10:18:45 AM »
For sure - I think that consistency is the message we need to reinforce this week. The other thing that needs to be focused on is how we're getting abused on the outside. We paid Shane this off-season thinking he'd lock down number ones but we've been giving up 100 yard games like they're going out of style. Anything you've noticed in that regards? I was going to talk to Ken about it but wanted your thoughts first.

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
We had a great game on offense. We spread the ball around - we made some big plays and were able to put points on the scoreboard. Defensively we still gave up some yardage and some big plays on the outside. We need to continue to work on clamping down there as the season progresses. Our guys showed a lot of heart this week and we need to keep that rolling forward.

2. Talk about the news that caught your attention this week...
I think GM Justin having a go at GM Gooch caught our attention for obvious reasons.

3. One Quarter of the way through your season, What have you learned about your team so far, and where do you see your season going?
I think the past four weeks have been a great learning experience. We had one good game but we can't rest on our laurels and need to continue to put in that kind of effort or we're sunk.

4. Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the key to victory?
Covering the outside - they beat a really good San Antonio team by attacking the boundary downfield. We stop that and play a complete game on offense we stand a chance. We've seen this season that any team can win and we need to keep that in mind.

Demi, can you let Coach know I'm coming to speak to the team? Thanks.

Guys, we ain't done yet. A lot of you have been around here for a long time; you've seen the good times and you've seen us stumble. There's a lot of veterans in this room that know how hard success is to come by, that nothing's a given in this league. We have young guys in this room who are experiencing what it is like to truly be a professional for the first time. It's easy when things are good; when you're winning you're at the top of the world. That high is unlike anything you can experience in this life. We're not that there though. We're not even close.

We have never been this low as a team before. For the last two weeks we've been beaten up by everyone; by the media who think we're all just going to cut tail and run to greener pastures, by opposing GM's who are happy to see the proud Las Vegas Scorpions fall as a result of their own opulence, by our coaches who know we're capable of so much better, and by some ass hole GM who's never played a down of professional football. That overlooks though the person who's beaten you up the most and it's the same face you see when you look in the mirror. I know I've done a lot of soul-searching over the past two weeks; it would be easy to just fold our tent and go home, it'd be really easy to say we're not going to accomplish our goals this year and just not try, it'd be easy to quit ... but there's one thing I kept coming back to and that's that if there's one thing a Las Vegas Scorpion doesn't do: quit!

This is what hell is like gentleman. And unfortunately there's no easy way out of this; there's no magic button to press, the clocks already struck midnight so that fairy Godmother isn't going to do anything. No, it's blood, sweat, and tears. It's effort. It's dedication. It's determination. It's desire. We've got two choices; we can stay in hell, dreaming of greener pastures, and we can quit on this season. Or, we can fight, we can embrace the challenge, we can scratch and claw; play by play, game by game, until we're out of hell. We can do it together as a team; we do our jobs and then look at the person sitting beside us knowing there going to do there's and we're going to come back from this. We're going to know that we stood on the precipice of disaster, we stared down everyone who counted us out and we said fuck you, we're not going down like this. Not without a fight. Not without giving it our all each and every day from here on out. I'm not asking you to do it all in one play, in one game. That's not possible. But I know with this team - if we take care of our jobs each and every time we go out there - at the end of the day we'll be where we want to be. That's all I'm asking for ... now let's do it. Starting with Tuscon let's fuck 'em good!

I think that is the understatement of the year. I think my interactions with the press the past two weeks express my dismay at how disappointing it has been. It pisses me off to see GM Justin and GM Kirk trumpeting our downfall and even more seeing GM Pancho high atop his big black Dildo. I don't want to take too much of your time but I did want to at least address the situation with you in light of the expectations of this season; I think everyone within the organization agrees that there is too much talent to be under-performing as we are and that if we are as bad as our record states, it's not something we can fix with a mid-season trade.

I understand that it'll be a third time this team has disappointed and not met expectations. I'm not naive in that we've changed players, coaches, and that eventually the blame rests with me but I have never managed this team with fear for my job and have always acted in what's best for the Las Vegas Scorpions. If we continue to under perform it is my recommendation that we look to sell off some pieces heading into the trade deadline, and out of respect for you and this organization, make you aware of this in case you choose to go a different direction personnel wise.

Cool - there's really only one strategy thing I wanted to ask about and that was the heat that's been coming at Steph. I don't know if it's that he's not comfortable standing in against pressure but I was wondering if we could up the screen game a bit to beat him. I know we've got some talented tail backs but I'd not be adverse to flexing anyone into the backfield if it was something we could exploit. Maybe it's even switching our primary to Mackey underneath. Dougie and Pitts will get there's regardless ...

That's fair - I think he's probably the only QB that would be a sure-fire improvement. My hope is still that Steph's going to step up but sometimes you just roll snake-eyes unless you have any outside the box ideas. It might just be a down year and we look at the draft for a QB.

I understand Coach. I don't blame this one bit at your feet. As long as I am here - you are the head Coach and the papers can get fucked if they think otherwise.

I want to give things one more week but after that if things don't change - I've got two plans that I'm going to present to ownership. One is that we blow this up; I've already had people ask me about a few players but guys like Pitts, Mackey, Corbett and Fowler are all on one year deals and as much as I love them the draft capital and prospects we can get are appealing. Probably everyone sans our line backers would be on the table. The second one is we shove all in and get Christian Sullivan, fold on Steph, and hope that sparks the offense and the defense rides the wave. I'm going to have a chat with GM Greenside if we go that way to try and buy us one more week. I've always hated the desperation move, I want to build a sustained winner and moving everything into the middle of the table makes that tough to do but banners are forever. Are you board with both courses of action? I'd love to stick with this core but six years is a long time with no banners.

I think we go with the guys we're looking at breaking camp with on the main roster and play them - let's see what we've got after an off-season of some changes.

I have no idea Coach. At the start of this season it was made imminently clear to me by ownership that this was a team that should be going all the way and right now we're probably the favorite for the #1 pick instead. This is my third time where we've lost in the Western Finals and then sucked the big one the following season. I know it's not ideal and I'm going to have a team meeting this week but if the heats on me, it's not in the locker room; if the Tribune's worried about me bailing on this team then they're not worried about how bad Steph's been or the fact that our run defense got destroyed. Maybe it was the wrong way to go about things but I'm reaching the end of my tether on how to fix this.

I think we have a lot of faith in our team. With Figgy and Harris at Catcher and 1st respectively at bats were going to be hard to come by for Manny and this gives him a great opportunity to play. We also noticed last year that our relievers by the end of the year were fatigued or had some rough outings and so building pen depth was a goal this off-season to make sure we're not in that position going forward.
