Then let's do it. Starting with KC.
Demi, I'm done for the week. Here's our details.

Training Adjustments

Shelley -5 Athletic, -5 Phyiscal, + 7.5 Position, +7.5 Film

Strategy Adjustments

Primary Receiver: Pitts

Could kiss you on the mouth right now Powers but that would probably make people think I'm scummier.

Not kissing Pow-Pow but this post ... GAWD IS IT SCUMMY!!!

Jon's town v. town comment got me thinking. Day 2 Gooch got a magic day cop. Day 3 we didn't see anything. Not ruling out that it was a 1 shot or people are holding their cards close to their chest but a thought running through my mind. Could it not be town v. town but mafia v. mafia. A mafia person calling a town person town is easy. I've got massive scum vibes from Eli. And to Jon's point about the finger pointing with nothing but substance is actually decent mafia play to appear active and in Eli's words "contribute as town".

Not enough to get my vote yet but something worth considering.

You had my vote Gooch until I turned to page 4 ...

As is Vote: Eli he's only furthered my belief so far this day phase that he is mafia.

I was more concerned about the tangible piece but you've covered it off.

I talked with Coach and we want to change up the training you get, have you working with him more closely, and put in some extra hours. We both think you'll be a stud in the future and I'm hoping to accelerate that timeline. You're a key cog but I want more from ... no, I want more FOR you. We're the top team in the league and looking at the stats you're top ten in a bunch, that's nothing to sneeze at, but you're so much better than that. There's no reason you can't be top 5 in every stat, leading the league in a couple. We want you to be the guy driving this team. The leadership, the swagger, that's two of the three pieces but moving from "feeling good, playing hard" to "I'm going to be the MVP of the league" is that last step.

That's my challenge to you. I'm not expecting it to happen overnight but I wouldn't ask it if I didn't think you had the potential and the ability to do it.

Sounds good - as long as he is working hard I'm OK with the mental mistakes for now. It's part of the learning curve. I think we reset back to our normal looks against Kansas City but otherwise I don't think there's anything else. I'll let you get back to practice.
Can I get Steph up here please Demi?
Steph, how's it going? We're doing a little bit of reflection this week. How do you think the first half's gone as both a team and personally?

Mobile... It’s a ballsy claim by PowPow and I could see one or two ways around it ++ Jon and Pancho haven’t chimed in. For the moment though I’ll take it because I also have been feeling Eli and his 2nd Vote is a good spot to hit home on.

Vote: Eli

Sounds good - I don't think there's anything we need to change for Kansas City but I did want to ask how Nutt is looking in practice. I know with our 3-3-5 he doesn't see as many reps.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: July 15, 2018, 11:25:23 AM »
Ok - I'll have a word with him but I think I want to cut out the athleticism and physical portion. Steph's great there already and any regression is going to get made up for elsewhere. I want to spend an extra five on position and film. Any extra that he's willing to commit too we'll put to film. Does that work? As part of position training we'll continue to work on his ball security in the pocket, right?

It's good to know that we're on the same side then. I wanted to ask about maybe approaching him about extra work with you specifically. I want to know his current schedule a bit and see if there's room and whether you are comfortable with that? I think we've got an Impact Bowl winning team - hell we just beat the reigning champs - but I see the turnovers and the fact we get into ruts where we don't move the ball as potential pit falls.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: July 14, 2018, 12:43:38 PM »
That's my thought process almost too a "T". What about intangibles? In the locker room? How do the other guys act with him? I love the kid and everything he's ever done and I've ever seen says he has the potential to be a stud but you've nurtured two of them and I'd be remiss to not ask.

Vote: Powers

Maybe people will listen to me today.

I appreciate it Coach. I like being in control but we were in the same position last year and fucked it up. I think we're in good position for a playoff birth but that's not why either of us are here. Eight games in - what's your brutally honest opinion of Shelley.

Sounds good. Thank you Mr. Sting.
Demi, let Coach know I'm ready to see him about our game.
Not exactly the prettiest win Coach but we got the come out roll and that's what matters. We made big plays and showed a ton of balls in answering the bell multiple times. I'm proud of the team and I'm hoping you can communicate that to them. This was a massive win for this organization.

Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
On the road in primetime against the defending champs. That’s really a chance to make a statement and we did. It wasn’t easy but we battled and made some big plays when it mattered. Any time you get a defensive score and a special teams score you’re happy and it should lead to a victory. Our defense played a stud game, Smith comes up and makes an impact in the kicking game, and I want to give a big shout out to John Pitts. He’s been one of the top receivers in the league over the last four years in so far as his receiving stats but he’s always been a complete player and that really showed this week in the running game with his blocking.

2. Give us an evaluation of the first half of the season for your team, who has stood out both good and bad?
We’ve got the best record in the league but we can’t get complacent. Our defense has been on a historic pace but we’ve struggled at times to protect the ball. We continue to improve we’ll be good.

3. With where you sit in the standings, how do you feel about your chances of meeting your owners expectations and how do you grade your performance as GM, what about your job security?
We have high expectations for this team as part of our culture. We continue to work hard and do our jobs we’ll be in good position to meet expectations. My performance and job security is really secondary to the great players who come in day in, day out, and try to get better and work towards an Impact Bowl Championship. They’re worth talking about – not me.

4. Who is your league-wide Mid-season MVP?  Who has been the most surprising under performer?
Barkley. Game in game-out he’s locking down the other teams best receiver and his addition has elevated our defense from elite to all-time. I’m not in other teams locker rooms so talking about their players performance would be quite ignorant.

5. Which of your division rivals has surprised you the most? How and Why?
I think Tombstone has surprised me the most. You knew this was going to be a rebuilding year but they’ve started to assemble a good core of young talent despite the turmoil in their front office over the last year or two.

6. With the Trade Deadline coming up this week, Do you see yourself as a buyer, a Seller, or do you plan to hold fast with what you have?
I’ve never been afraid to make deals to better our team but I highly doubt – especially with the new luxury tax – that we’ll be making a deal. We’ve got an awesome team and I think a big part of that is chemistry and so any deal really has to factor that in.

7. What is your opinion on the league's newly announced luxury tax rule, do you believe it is fair, and do you believe it will benefit the league?
I like the idea of a luxury tax but I’m not sold on it’s impact on the PR cap is the right way to do it.

8. Talk about your game this upcoming week, what do you need to focus on most?
Heading home to face a good Bruins team. Need to protect the ball and continue to play good defense. We know how good that offense can be .

Kirk - how do you feel about Gooch saying you are town. Do you know if he is town?

Also don’t base anything off my vote. It doesn’t count. Justin couldn’t have known that

Can you vote tomorrow?

Because I don't think Pancho will stick with his vote which leaves only Eli voting for Kirk and he's going to stick his vote there to make him look less suspect.

Not going to lie - this sounds like a very rehearsed answer. I'd auto-vote Eli for something like that because of how new he is and think someone fed it too him.
In this case I'm just going to FOS: Justin.

Simple - Monday was travel day and my new project won’t let me into “games” websites at their office which also has no cell reception in our room.

As for the game I don’t mind Eli’s WIFOM assertion but I’m more in tune with Kirks thinking.

Playing via mobile ... I think we should vote Rebel to avoid the mod kill when he goes inactive. 😂😂😂😂. ❤️ Ya J-Reb.

KR2 = Danny Edelman
PR1  = John Smith
PR2 = Danny Edelman

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: July 07, 2018, 12:58:49 PM »
Ok - I'll take that under advisement then. Is there someone else who might be available you'd like? I am also thinking we bring up Smith. I didn't trade for him to sit in the minors. I think he can help us immediately in the kicking game and potentially as a receiving weapon out of the backfield.

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: July 07, 2018, 12:44:38 PM »
Ok - I wanted to ask about Michael Hodge. We've still got draft capital to make a big splash happen but it'd probably end up costing us a roster receiver as well. I've been wary of trading players from our active roster and I like the team we've got but would he help spark the offense or are our bad games more a function of Stephen developing still? He played in the slot for me in Pearl Harbour but if he played on the outside, could Mackey slide down? What do we look like? I know it's a lot but with an all-time defense this year I'm willing to shove my chips into the middle in the right scenario.

I'm ok using Mackey as our primary target - I know Rich has struggled but my only though process is what he did last year against us in a "revenge" game. He seemed to play up a bit. Thoughts?

General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM : LAS VEGAS SCORPIONS
« on: July 01, 2018, 06:04:31 PM »
Yeah - I think we sent a message to the rest of the league with that game and now facing the champs it's time to cement it. I think we can make a move or two this week to add a bit to our offense/special teams but wanted to touch base on Rapid City. Historically we've had success keeping the ball away from Lightner and exploiting the slot against them and upping our pass ratio. With Ponder, Saunders and Hanlon is that something you're comfortable with?

Five Trades That Might Happen

So apparently you can work for two publications at the same time. I once told an ex-girlfriend the same thing about women and that didn’t go over to well. I wonder if that’s the reason she’s an ex-girlfriend? Regardless, apparently it’s my job to cook up trade scenarios that will rock the foundation of the HIFL this #TradeSZN like I rock the … well, you get the picture.

Anyways – here we go.

Mahalo In Oakland
Oakland Receives: Marcus Mariota and Stefan Elkins
Kansas City Receives: James O’Rourke, George Britt, Alan Molina, S10 St. Paul 2nd

With both Britt and Mariota scheduled to become UFA’s at the end of the year both teams run the risk of losing their franchise players in the off-season. Both are likely to attract the franchise tag but even then the cost of 2 1sts for Mariota will not scare away a GM and I imagine it is the same for George Britt. James O’Rourke has shown flashes in Oakland but an inability to stay healthy has impacted his development and GM Justin has been said to crave an elite QB. Mariota is that and GM Justin has the pieces to overpay and get GM Bone to at least consider the move. Britt and O’Rourke will cost Kansas City less after the season and with the weapons this team has on offense O’Rourke could flourish as he stays healthy (call it Christian Sullivan pt. II) while Alan Molina gives them a solid Nickle Corner. Add in the 2nd round pick and whatever they can get for Thomas Richards after his trade demand and this just might be enough to pry Mariota out of Kansas City.

Snake Bite in Seattle
Seattle Receives: Christian Sullivan, Max Ramos
Charlotte Receives: John Carr, Darren Pierce, Daniel Maxley, David Bruce, Eric Scott
St. Paul Receives: William Brewster, Tommy Corbin, S10 Seattle 2nd.

A big three team trade that could really shake up three playoff races. Charlotte has looked great as an expansion outlet while Seattle might be the most surprising team in the league. St. Paul has started to come on strong but John Carr has struggled mightily at times this year and even with the explosion against Rapid City that was powered by Adrian McCaffrey. This isn’t the Lynx of old with the ballhawks in the back end and moving Maxley makes a final break from that to an offensive team that is going to get after the QB. Does Joan Swope appreciate trading another defensive piece to bolster the offense? Charlotte bets on Carr turning it around but adds two elite young players in Pierce and Maxley. The inability to move on from Carr’s contract adds some risk here but play-action with Spurgeon and Pierce on the outside and what is starting to look like an elite defense might cover any warts. The big news here is GM Jon bringing two of his former Cobra’s back with him on 1 year deals in the hope they can add more championship experience and complete what might be the greatest story in sports history a year after the Eddie Phoenix tragedy.

Miami Shoves All-In
Miami Gets: Burton Tibbets, Joseph Dobbins
Alabama Gets: Mac Richard, Austin Napier, David Hill, Daniel Coleman Miami S10 1st

This trade probably coincides with the end of the GM Pancho era in Alabama but moving two players who came to Alabama to win a championship to Miami clears some salary room to retain Jamie Ortega in the off-season. Alabama’s going to hate to pay some of the freight for the rest of the season but that’s a small cost for allowing them to quickly reset and compete next year. Tibbetts, Dobson and Randolph would probably replace Tibbetts, Dobson and Giles as the top receiving trio in the league and give Miami an even scarier offense to go with their elite defense. For Alabama this trade would be all about the future with Napier and Richard being solid pieces, Hill and Coleman are top 25 prospects at positions of need, and that S10 1st – while likely to be late, allows this team to start to build the future championship Nighthawks roster after routinely moving out of the early portions of the draft under GM Pancho.

King Regains His Thrown
Portland Receives: Corey Rizzo, Justin Blais
DC Receives: Frank Cooney

GM Dazz made some curious moves during the bye-week. Corey Rizzo has the team in a playoff position but in acquiring former #1 Overall pick King Carmazzi (who he brought to Cleveland) the year prior, you have to wonder whether GM Dazz would move Rizzo to get another one of his former players and give King the keys to the DC kingdom. Carmazzi flopped in Music City but DC has been pounding the rock this year and with limited pressure and not being forced to carry the team maybe he’ll have a chance to deliver on the promise he had coming out of the South. It’s hard to find good corners – but it’s even harder to find a winning quarterback. With Steven Crawford looking to be on his last legs bringing in Rizzo (a protégé he is familiar with) Portland sets themselves up to challenge their pacific northwest compatriots Seattle starting next year.

Three-Peat Threatened
Rapid City Receives: John Cope, Edward Gonzales, Richard Ray
St. Louis Receives: Joseph Upton, Eric Ashworth, Eddie Stands

Rapid City has won the last two Impact Bowl’s with their scorched earth offense but it has looked less fearsome this year with all the changes they’ve had. More change might not be the recipe for success either but having seen what the Vegas defense has done to the top two offenses in the league to that point in Alabama and Orlando, you have to wonder if Rapid City can do enough to get past them in the wild card round, or keep up with the high scoring Knights offense piloted by Keenan Daley. Adding championship experience in Cope and Gonzales helps and while losing Ashworth and Stands hurts the passing offense – getting Jeremy Martin more touches isn’t a bad thing and after Richard Council’s special teams antics last week – using him in space as a receiving weapon might be an idea.

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
We played really well. Exceptionally so on defense and we moved the ball on offense. Shelley throwing for 300+ and running for over 100 as a team. We could have finished our drives a little better but beyond that we did a lot really well.

2. Talk about this weeks league news, what stood out most to you? (cover at least two topics)
I think you're starting to really see teams realize where they're at this season and you then get all the GM's at the Rookie Showcase and roster movement is inevitable. Keenan Daley's also looked very impressive - he did the same thing to us earlier this season and that really has helped San Antonio this season.

3. How did you feel about the first annual HIFL/NCAA Showcase?  Do you feel like it was a beneficial addition to the league?
I think Comissioner Wilkinson did a great job with putting it together and working with the NCAA. I think getting a chance to see the incoming class here and then be around stadiums and then the combine helps us evaluate players and make sure we're getting players for this league both on and off the field.

4. What was your take on the amount of GM errors that occurred during the bye-week?
I'm focused on our own ship. Not the mistakes that other GM's are making.

5. Do you plan on making any call ups this week before locking in?
I think our Coaching and Scouting staff are going to come together and see what is best for our team.

6. Talk about your game this upcoming week.
Going to face the champs in primetime. Really, that's the best you can ask for in the regular season. We'll be ready to go.

I'm resimming it until I get a similar result, but I will have to post a corrected box score to reflect the "official" stats from the game.

Perfect - I did think of one thing I wanted to ask about and that was Ruiz and Hanlon at TE. Hanlon's looked good but he's a rookie and is a player we can move to the minors if we had to in an emergency. How do you rate the two amongst each other - and if Hanlon is that guy do we then have a chip in Ruiz to move elsewhere if necessary?

I agree. That's going to be a big test for us with how good they are in the passing game. It's why we made some moves though to stand up against that type of offense. What's the feel in the locker room right now? We're riding high but the Nutt stuff earlier in the year hasn't slipped my mind and this new Superman thing - I know Shelley's not a rook but it's a lot of attention that I want to make sure the guys aren't feeling it's undeserved.

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
I think we played a great game. We slowed down a really good offense and then in the second half our offense did a really good job of controlling the game and taking advantage of opportunities. Turnovers early on showed up again but we’ll continue to work through that.

2. Talk about this weeks league news, what stood out most to you?
I think Stealin’ Seconds V2 has a small place in my heart but I think the big thing was Carlson’s game and how good that Seattle team has been this year. GM Jon’s done one helluva job over there in turning things around quickly and deserves a ton of praise.

3. What do you make of the news of the newest GM's to join the league? What advice would you give them?
Congratulations. Welcome to the league. We’ll see you the field. As far as advice, none. Anything that could help them I’d rather keep internal to Vegas.

4. With the draft class being announced later this week, do you plan to target personalities, skill sets, or position groups at the college showcase?
I think we’ve always paid attention to personalities and making sure we have guys that are going to fit well into our locker room and on the field.

5. What do you hope to gain most this week during the bye week, for yourself but also for your team?
I think the bye week is good. Gives us a chance to nurse any nagging bugs and injuries and then refocus on the second third of the year. I trust our players will use it wisely.
