1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?

What a performance out there! Gio and the receiving corps looked great, while the defense made big stops out there multiple times. And Bobby Wilder! That kid stepped up huge in the locker room, and out in the field. What a day he had! Things are coming together for us and I can't be more excited.

2. The XFL and AAF have been very quiet since their championship games received very low viewership, do you believe there is room for that many professional football league's in America?

There are lots and lots of high level, and potential high level players out there, and there are a finite number of spots on HIFL level teams. I love the competition, and I love that there are multiple ways for talented kids to play ball.

3. Talk about something going on around the league this season that has interested you in one way or another.

Vegas being 0-3 is shocking. Boatwright going down to injury is terrible for the #1 pick. Ortega is playing out of his mind. Music City is undefeated. There are plenty of incredible storylines in the league this year, just like every year.

4. What do you make of the incredible season Jamie Ortega is having this year, first place in passing and rushing TDs, as well as rushing yards all while only having one interception on the season.. is that MVP Caliber in your eyes, and if not, who is your early favorite for league MVP?

I mean....his play speaks for itself. But I think it's too early to be talking MVP's, regardless of how amazing his play has been.

5. Talk to us about your upcoming game this week.  What will be the key to victory?

Milwaukee is flying high after their first road win. I'm sure they're going to arrive riding high on adrenaline, and ready to repeat that result. We need to contain their high octane offense to prevent that result.

Any further questions?

Looking to move players from reserve roster for draft capital. Will likely be pitching. Have scouting reports, and players are quality, not shit. Talk to me.

So I'm clear, to account for how over I was, and the financial penalty, I need to shed $4MM from the reserve roster, correct?

Miss Quinn, does Don Leone want to give me a piece of his mind in person, or should I just start making moves to right the ship?

Math is hard.

GM POWERS CHUCKLES

In all seriousness, it was all my fault. Basically when Sean McCord became available, it upended my planned budget and I neglected to fix it.  I'd like to apologize to Don Leone and all the Chicago fans for my carelessness; it will not happen again.

Hello everyone.  I'm sure most of you know me from my FBL, NBL, and HIFL stints, but for those that don't my name is Mike Powers.  I am proud to be the 1st GM of the Chicago Mafia.

We have a fantastic nucleus of the team, including our 1st round draft pick Edwin Torrez, who I have no doubt will be a human highlight reel out there.  I was also able to bring in a few new pieces to this team, including pitcher Sean McCord.  I am very excited at the upcoming season, and can't wait to get started.

Let's open the floor for questions.

Love that attitude Colt.  Around the league, there are a number of receivers who'd get frustrated at the double teams and the drop in their touches as a result.  But you see the same thing that I do - the team benefits from it when Ben is left open on the other side.  You're a team first guy, and I am so proud to have you as a Monster.

Anyway, I won't keep you any longer.  We'll touch base again later.  Have a great practice my man.

*****

Coach Bryce please.

*****

Coach, I was about to lock in when I saw St. Paul's roster moves cross the wire.  Rizzo doesn't scare me that much, but Barclay could definitely disrupt things up front.  That said, I don't see a need to panic and change any of our game planning.  Do you agree?

Colt, always great to see you. I, and all of Monsters Nation, love the chemistry you've developed with Gio. I believe this season is ours for the taking, and you're a huge part of that. You feeling good out there my man?

Thanks for keeping me in check Coach. I don't wanna find myself mentally dismissing anyone, and I think I was doing that with NJ. Won't let it happen again.

I'm not too keen on changing anything this week. I say we stay the course, and continue to build chemistry on the field. Do you agree?

For sure. The scheduling gods were kind to us to start the year, that's for sure. As an aside thanks for handling things last week while my household was under the weather. Appreciate you, as always.

NJ kept that game more competitive than I'd like. Was that a case of me mentally underestimating them, or something else?

15
General Manager's Office / Re: TEAM: MICHIGAN MONSTERS

1. What stood out to you this week from your game, both good and bad?

We came out of there with a win, which is always the goal. Gio did what Gio does, and he slung a beautiful pass to Rory Dover for the game winning score. Outside of that, we had a very balanced effort, which was terrific to see.

As for the 'bad'....well I'm not sure you can really call it bad, but it is only week 2. We haven't had a ton of turnover in our roster, but the additions that we do have - guys like Allen and Maxley - their talent changes what we do a bit, so we're still in the initial stages of gelling as a team. But to be 2-0 while still coming together and learning how all the pieces fit....that is an enviable position to be in.

2. How do you feel about GM's feuding with the owners of other franchises?

Well I don't know about owners and GM's feuding, but I know a little something about GM's feuding against each other, don't I?

GM POWERS PAUSES WHILE HE AND THE MEDIA CHUCKLES FOR A MOMENT

In all seriousness, first I'd like to publicly thank Miss Waters for her kind words on Twitter. I appreciate you taking a chance on me when I didn't deserve it, and I aim to repay your kindness with the Impact Bowl trophy.

Next....as long as it stays above board and all in good fun, then there is no problem. But when things get taken too far...well, allow me to assure my fellow GM's, THAT is a boat that you do NOT want to take a ride in.

3. Two games into the season, are you getting what you expected out of your team?

We're 2-0, and we're not even firing on all cylinders yet. I'm getting what I expected, and then some.

4. No team is perfect, what do you feel your biggest weakness is going into week three?

I addressed it earlier, but we just need a few more games under our belts to really get rolling. Gio has chemistry with Soriano, Ramos, and Dover for example, but have we found the best way to utilize Allen yet? Have we put all the pieces together in the secondary behind Maxley to get the best out of that unit? I don't know yet, but we will soon.

5. Which match up will be the key to victory for your team this week?

St. Paul is still reeling from the departure of GM Gooch and a host of their top play makers. On top of that, they've got some early injuries to deal with. Potentially, the biggest match up we can exploit is in their QB slot. I am very familiar with PSM, and unfortunately for him he is spot starting from off the street, without benefit of training camp. If he's under center, there are a number if this we can do to exploit that fact.

Any further questions?

And we're staring off with a big divisional game against DC. At least we've got home field for it.

I personally didn't see anything in the two preseason games to make me worry, or think about changing anything that we do. Is that your assessment as well?

One question I had for you.  From my football experience in the HIFL, I'm used to not expecting too much out of a majority of my draft picks year one.  We have a minor league system in place there to give those kids some playing experience, and some time to coach them up a bit.

That brings me to Nakayama.  He was our 2nd round draft pick this year.  It is too early for us to stick him in the rotation?  Would having him on the reserve roster mean that he sees no action at all and essentially sits for a year?  I'm just trying to understand the system more than anything here, with Nak being the example I'm using.

1. What did you gather from your preseason games?

Apologies for the delay ladies and gentlemen.  I was quite pleased with our efforts this preseason.  Everyone played as well as I expected them to, but what was really nice to see was how seamlessly we slotted Christopher Allen into our offense.  Up until now we have been kinda 1-dimensional on our offense.  Now with Christopher, we have a super talented back who gives us a legitimate threat in the run game.  We're a dangerous offensive team, who has been made even more dangerous.

Outside of that, it was wonderful seeing Maxley's debut in a Monster's uniform.  He has been a tremendous addition to the locker room, and we'll all soon see how much he adds to our defense.

2. How much stock do you put into your teams preseason performance?

Wins and losses, not too much.  That's not what it was about.  It was about fitting the new pieces that we have acquired this offseason into the puzzle that is the Michigan Monsters.  It is about putting Quigley and Owen in front of HIFL competition, so the coaching staff can get a closer look at what we've got for the potential future of this franchise.  In terms of those things, we put a LOT of stock into that.

3. What is your primary and secondary goal this season, personally?

Can I say win the Impact Bowl for both?  Honestly, that is my primary goal every season here in the HIFL.  I've made it to the dance twice, and just couldn't punch the ticket, and that stings on a personal and professional level.  I think this team has all the tools and all the talent to go all the way.  That is the sole focus of this season.

4. Who impressed you the most on your own team in the pre-season?

I mentioned him earlier, but Christopher Allen was a joy to watch out there.  A running back that can easily give you 100+ yards on the ground is going to do so much to open up our offense, when we were already pretty damn dynamic on that side of the ball to begin with.  It was great seeing a small taste of what he brings to us.

5. With the start of the season finally here, what do you expect from your players in week one?

I expect them to play Monsters football.  Hard nosed, smash mouth, play every game like it is Week 18 and the playoff are on the line, football.

Any further questions from the media?

Thanks Karbi. I'll touch base with you again in a moment.

Can I speak to Dana Boras please?

*****

Dana, GM Powers here. I saw what just went down with your boy McCord, and to say I'm surprised would be an understatement. However Brooklyn's loss might be Chicago's gain. I'd like to bring him aboard for a year. Will $6.5MM get the deal done?

Can I speak to Vivian Hall please.

*****

Vivian, it is a pleasure to meet you.  I'd like to discuss your client Robbie Verkaik.  I've got a slot open for an outfielder, and I'd like for it to be Robbie.

Full disclosure; I'm going to use the preseason as a sort of 'try-outs' for the starting positions on this team.  Robbie will be given equal opportunity to be an every day starter for this ball club.

That being said, I'm offering a 2 year, $3MM deal.

Gonna set a hard deadline of Sunday night to get your profiles in. If you don't get them in, unfortunately you'll be left out.
