THE GENERAL SINGS PRAISES OF FIRST ROUND PICK "ROBDOB" ROBERT DOBBINS

LOUISVILLE -- Merv "The General" Patton is quickly building a rapport with 20 year old Wide Receiver Robert Dobbins, and Woodpeckers fans excitement for the upcoming season continues to grow as the teams newly acquired starting QB gushed about the 9th overall pick in this years draft.

"When you sit back and look at this team, we might not have a star-studded receiver corps but I'm excited to work with these guys." Patton said to local media prior to the teams first pre-season game. "The guy Im most excited about playing with though is RobDob, He's got a great combination of strength, ball skills, and raw talent that makes you believe he's going to be just like the legendary Joseph Dobbins when it's all said and done.  He's young and has to work out some wrinkles, but his work ethic is off the charts and I love what he brings to this offense, reminds me of a young Shawn Simon really."

Patton is set to play out his 12th season in the league with the Woodpeckers and admitted that while the idea of chasing a championship has crossed his mind, he could see himself finishing his career in Louisville if "the chemistry is right."

"Everyone wants to have 'Impact Bowl winning starter' on their resume, no doubt about it, but honestly I don't know if I want to bounce from team to team in my final years in the league, we'll see, but Chemistry is important so lets see how this year goes before we start thinking about my next contract."

The Woodpeckers are set to start t he regular season at home against fellow S13 Expansion team the Pearl Harbor Predators.  The team also will enjoy two home games for the pre-season as they take on Tucson and Winnipeg.

VEGAS CORNER SHANE BARKLEY IRKS TEAMMATES AFTER CONTINUING TO PRAISE FORMER COACH DEAN HOFFMAN

LAS VEGAS --  Shutdown slot-corner Shane Barkley is falling out of favor with his teammates in Las Vegas after reports of the corner continuing to compare new defensive coordinator Joseph Ito to current Dallas head coach Dean Hoffman despite Hoffman having left Vegas over a year ago.

Many in the Scorpions locker room have moved on after the team lost Hoffman but apparently he and Barkley shared a close relationship and are still considered to be very good friends.     One player speaking anonymously commented, "Barkley and Coach Hoffman still golf together, still have family dinners, hell Shane was telling me during camp that their families went in 50/50 on chartering a motor yacht together in the off-season, talk about buddy-buddy... but yeah, it's irritating because we got new coaches, a brand new staff, and we're trying to win it all, so sometimes its just like 'man shut up."

With Dallas having a clear need at corner after the shock retirement of XFL star Dale Lawson in the off-season coupled with Las Vegas' deep stock of corners the two teams seem a natural fit to trade however divisional rivalry may prevent such a deal from happening unless a 3rd team were to get involved.

KNIGHTS QB CALEB SMOAK SAYS BRIAN SMITH A LEADER FACTOR IN DECISION TO LEAVE LINCOLN FOR SAN ANTONIO

SAN ANTONIO -- In a sit down interview following training camp new Knights quarterback Caleb Smoak opened up on his decision to leave the Lincoln Pride after just one season and what lead him to take over a Knights franchise after the sudden loss of their cornerstone QB Keenan Daley.

"The people in Lincoln were great, the fans, my teammates, even the GM, but I didn't get along with Coach Smith on offense.  We didn't have the same philosophy and he's one of those guys who is just set in his ways.  So when San Antonio offered me a big pay day to come in and play with an innovative young offensive mind like Coach McCarthy I couldn't say no."

Smoak is not alone in his displeasure with the Pride OC, reports out of Lincoln indicated that Kaden Daley and the OC have had a falling out in the offseason as well.   Smith has been in the league as a coach ever since retiring as a leading running back in Season 4.  After a stint as head coach in St. Paul he returned to the league as offensive coordinator for the Pride having revamped his offensive gameplan to fit a more modern HIFL, however his personality is not for everyone apparently.

WITH KICKER AND PUNTER BOTH QUARENTINED DUE TO MRSA, IBRAHIMOVIC SET TO SAVE THE DAY!

SEATTLE -- With 104 passing TDs and 25 rushing TDs in just 53 career HIFL games, Elias Ibrahimovic has proven he can do it all on the field.  Whether its a dazzling back-shoulder fade to Darren Pierce in the corner of the end zone or a jaw dropping juke in the open field to free himself for a 40 yard scramble, the Swedish superstar is undeniably one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league, however this pre-season Elias will look to add another means of intrigue to his game when he steps into the kicking and punting role for the Lumberjacks during the pre-season.

With newly acquired special teamers Mark Mitchell and Kurtis Barfield each in quarantine for the next two weeks after each was confirmed to have MRSA infections that could quickly spread through the locker room if left untreated, the team will turn to Ibrahimovic who volunteered for the roles during a team meeting after training camp broke.

"Coach asked who here could kick, you know, like who played soccer as a kid or in college. Before anyone could even blink, he rose up and calmly said, 'do not worry coach, Elias is here.'   it was pretty dope."  One player said when asked about the situation.

The Lumberjacks are set to have Mitchell and Barfield cleared to play once the regular season begins, but all eyes will be on Elias during pre-season with Vegas bettors already throwing cash a various prop bets for the rare spectacle.

FLUKE INJURY IN CAMP HAS SHAUN DAY SIDELINED, QB COULD MISS FIRST TWO WEEKS OF REGULAR SEASON!

ANN ARBOR --- The biggest fear of any general manager or head coach coming out of the off-season and leading into the regular season is an injury to a key player.  For the Michigan Monsters that nightmare became a reality when starting QB Shaun Day suffered a wrist injury that will prevent him from even throwing a football for two-three weeks and could sideline the young signal caller until Week 3 of the regular season.

A person with knowledge of the situation says that Day suffered the injury while running routes with his receivers and catching passes from the backup QBs for the team.

"Shaun was running routes with the receivers after his throwing session, something he does at least once a week, but Hyland let one sail and instead of letting it go, Shaun went full Darren Pierce and went up and one handed it in the back corner of the end zone, but on the way down his throwing hand came down to brace for the fall and something just got bent the wrong way.." The source said of the moment.

The insider went on to say the original fear was a broken wrist or forearm which could have sideline the QB for 6-8 weeks, but luckily for all parties after a night of icing the injury medical examiners confirmed it was just a sprain.

Day is expected to begin practicing after the pre-season concludes and will hopefully be cleared to play in week 2 or 3 depending on his progression.

Michigan is facing major changes if the team does not improve its record enough to satisfy owner Vanessa Waters, so Day will be needed back on the field as soon as possible.
