In that case, I'll up my offer to 2.5 million. If you sign here, you'll be in a position to build a young defence in your style right from the start and will have a lot more control over defensive matters than most other teams.

Hello GM Kirk, My Father has asked me to inform you that we have a $10MM budget for scouting this off-season, this is all covered by him and will not affect our budget for the rest of the season.  Please remember this scouting money is for both the college draft and free agents, plan wisely.  If you need a refresher on how much scouting costs, it is on page 9 of your GM handbook... http://espnsportssims.net/index.php?topic=1155.msg28962#msg28962

Please be advised, scouting trips are unavailable due to the college season being over.

We are required to attend the combine before we can do any interviews or workouts after the combine, if you have any questions please feel free to ask, I'll be at my desk..

Coach Sanchez, I'd like to ask you about the player we interviewed at the combine. Is he worth taking another look at or do you think we should look elsewhere to fill his role?

I believe there are better options out there both in the draft and free agency, but if we strike out everywhere else, he would be a project to work with at least...

Coach Stark, as there seems to be quite a wait for our next pick, perhaps we should discuss our draft board. A couple of the better players are gone, including our top name, so I'd like to know what you think of the guys still available.

Our guy listed at #5 on the board is my favorite as an overall talent, but depends on what position we want to fill with the pick.

I have concerns with his hands but the other kid isn't much better there, I like his speed better and his agility, I also think he has better conditioning to stay on the field for more plays.

Coaches, while we're waiting for our next pick I'd like to know how you think the draft is going so far and where you think we should be looking next? After missing out on the 2nd name on our first list, I think it's not worth looking at anyone else in his position until free agency opens up. If I can make something happen with our picks, I'd like to take the no.1 guy on our current list unless you guys feel we should be looking at a different position with our next pick. I think we're light in that position and that it's an important one for the way we want to play this season.

Actually, I just got us the next pick in the draft. I like the guy at no.1 on our list and I think other GMs do as well. No.3 is also someone I'm interested in drafting, but I think we're already pretty strong there. I'm ready to pull the trigger on no.1 if there are no objections.

Guys, welcome to the HIFL and welcome to the New Jersey Dragons. When I first looked at the names on the draft, I could see that this was class that would be heavy on defensive talent and your three guys showed me and the coaches here that you were the top guys for our system. I must say that I was surprised you were all available for us and delighted to have the opportunity to put you together. We're all excited to see what you can do for us this season and in the future, none more so that coach Swope who is looking forward to working with you and seeing just how far he can help you develop. Do you have any questions or concerns you'd like to raise at this point?

Coach Sanchez, I'm currently discussing deals with other GMs for these players.

Passes over a sheet of paper with the names on them (PM)

Obviously we're not going to sign all of them, but I'd like to hear your opinion on them. Are they worth pursuing or is there better talent in free agency?

I don't like one year contracts because you only get half a season to assess a player before you have to make a decision about his future. I see that they appear to be pretty standard at this point in the draft, so I will agree to it as long as I get the 'right of first refusal' at the end of his contract. I would expect it to work the same as it does for players who drop out of the draft.

Unlike other leagues you may familiar, there is no "early" free agency in the HIFL you have a one week exclusive negotiation period with your expiring contracts.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I think your client has potential if he works hard to develop certain parts of his game and we'll help him with that. If he gets his head down and works hard, I'm sure we'll be talking again at the end of the season. As for now, you've got a deal. 1 year 500K.

Coaches, I know that QB isn't a position we were weak in... quite the opposite... but that was a pick for the future. At that position in the draft and at that price, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to pick a guy I think will be a big player for us, particularly considering most of our QBs are already on the wrong side of 30.
