It seems a lot more Centers were taken in the draft than either of us expected. I'll send the deal over to the league office.

Tong An, can you get Eli Harris for me?
---
Eli, I see you've forgiven Stephen Cotter and brought him back onto your books. I would be interesred in doing the same. Would Cotter have any interest in returning to New Jersey?

Hey, he'll come back on his old deal, but that's what he's looking for.

That's what I was hoping to hear, Eli. We'd be happy to bring him back on his old deal. 5 years, $5million and 2 million PR.

I've sent the paperwork to the league and I'm looking forward to seeing Cotter tearing up the opposition in a Dragons uniform again this season.
---
Tong An, I'm just waiting on a couple of deals to be finalised and then I'll get the official paperwork drawn up. Thanks for your hard work this off-season.

Tong An, call Bobby Shapiro for me. I'll leave a message if he doesn't answer.
---
Bobby, I find myself one player and $1 million over the limits. Obviously, your two players are the most expendable on my roster. The way I see it, I've got three options. I'll put them to you and allow you a chance to continue our feud or do what's best for your players.

Option 1: Bradshaw and Caldwell accept a cut of $1 million between them and Caldwell signs to the practice squad. This option gives them both a chance to show what they can do against HIFL players and attract offers next season.

Option 2: I amnesty one of them and the other stays on the roster on their current deal.

Option 3: You continue our feud and I cut both of your guys.

Classic GM Kirk.

You refuse to sign m pllayers.. Then you sign them out of spite,to prevent them from going to teams they signed with....

Them you say if they don't take a pay cut they are gone.

Consider this our final chat.

Eat shit, and get fired..

As far as I was concerned, our relationship was dead a buried when you forced me to trade my favourite player in football for no reason other than to be a dick. I had no intention of ever calling you again, but I put that aside to find away to protect the careers of two young players. I gave you three options, two of which would have saved one of your guys but you chose option three. I'll be sure to make sure the players both know that you decided to fuck them both just to piss me off instead of working to take care of them.

Tong An, get in contact with Kevin Caldwell for me please.
---
Mr. Caldwell, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to let you go. I tried to reach a deal with your agent to keep you on the team, but he wasn't receptive to starting discussions. I'll try to find a trade for you, but I don't think it's likely at this stage of teams' preparations.

I hope you land on your feet. Good luck to you.
---
Tong An, get me in touch with James Bradshaw.
---
Mr. Bradshaw, despite your agent trying to incite me to cut you, I have decided not to hold your association with that man against you at this time. I'm going to give you a shot to impress me this season and earn a spot on the main roster. You're our 3rd DT, but that can change if you work hard to prove you deserve playing time. At the very least, you should consider this opportunity as a two year audition for other teams.

You're joining the best defense in the league, so it's up to you to show that you belong here.
---
Tong An, I need to speak to Coach Swope.
---
Coach, I'm working through the depth charts for the season and I'd like your input into a couple of things. The problems in the secondary can be discussed after you've had a chance to see the players at the training camp, but I have a couple of questions about the defensive line. Firstly, do we play Hagan on the left or right? He's our best pass rusher, so do we rush him at their best blockers to give Seaton an easier route or target their weak side to pile up his numbers? Secondly, who is our biggest DT?

I think that Hagan should attack their Left Tackle, he's good enough to destroy the other team's best player... now if we notice a particular match up, like when we go after a team with a terrible RT like Eugene Nash in Atlanta, then I think we should exploit that and switch things up.

...Freeman is our biggest DT, he's the only 300+ lbs guy, he's at 315 this year.

...as for leadership, our returning players overall lack that natural leadership ability outside of Carroll Lang, who seems like a great candidate for captaincy.

Thanks for the input. I'll get the sheet sent out in a moment. Can you send Coach Stark to see me, please.

Coach Stark, I have the preseason sheet for you. I haven't selected a starting QB because I want to give all three guys the chance to stake their claim to the spot in preseason. John Carr is the first name on the sheet because he's been here the longest and he's still the guy I'm hoping to move forward with... though you can leave that bit out if you have to explain the order to Jose.

PR

John Carr: 1m
750k: 'Dragon Strong" Television and billboard adverts that show John's toughness and ability to handle pressure: two things trained into him at the army. The billboards will have him standing with a ball in his hands and soldiers on either side of him. The TV ads will inter-cut shots of people criticising him with drill sergeants screaming and action on the field with him running an army obstacle course.

250k: "Cars" by Gary Numan to be played after every significant pass thrown by John Carr during home games (TDs and big 1st downs). It's a play on his name and that we're in safe hands with him under center.

Trevor Jose: 2m
750k: "No Way, Jose" billboard and TV ad campaign. The ads will focus on his top highlights and most incredible plays throughout his career. Commentators and pundits' astonished reactions will be highlighted as Jose keeps getting better and better. The billboard will have him throwing the ball as an onrushing player misses a tackle on him.

250k: "No Way, Jose" best NJ plays of the season to be shown pre-game with the top play to be voted for by fans. One lucky voter for the top play will get a Trevor Jose experience at the final home game of the season where they can meet their hero and get signed merchandise.

1m: No Way Jose's bar & grill to replace the McReynold's restaurant at the stadium. Renovations to make it a premium sports bar and a great place for fan groups to meet up before and after games. Trevor Jose merchandise and highlights to be prominently displayed and updated throughout the season. The bar and grill will extend outside on match days to help build up the atmosphere during tailgate parties.

George Slender: 250k
250k: 'The Slenderman" billboards around NJ to introduce the fans to their new star. The billboards should show him crouched and looking like he's ready to charge out of the billboard and block the people looking up at it.

Waylon Hagan: 2m
1m: The Sack Mercenary. Everyone already knows the deal with Hagan, so let's just go with it. I want an A-Team style advert with Hagan taking the place of Mr. T. "If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... Hagan." Lots of sack and explosions and mean looks from Hagan.

1m: There was a lot of talk about the circus surrounding Hagan last season, so let's welcome him to the team with an unveiling event... with a circus. We'll hire some professional circus acts, get John Raymond to be ringmaster and hire Kiss to play songs from Psycho Circus. Let's make Hagan seem larger than life and get everyone excited to see him in action.

John "The Surgeon" Spurgeon: 1m
500k: 撤recision Vision II. An addition to last season's interactive viewing feature, in partnership with ESPN, for all of New Jersey痴 TV games. The new feature will include the wonderful functions of the previous one, but will add new connectivity for people who use their XBox One or PS4 to view NJ games. Fans will be able to record their best celebrations (via kinect or PSEye) and share them with friends and other fans. The best ones will be shown on the jumbo screens in the stadium after the next touchdown.

250k: New John 'The Surgeon" Spurgeon merchandise will be created and sold in the team shops at the stadium and throughout the city. Including the updated Surgeon football boots from Li-Ning and scrubs with John's name and number on the back.

250k: A section of the stadium behind one endzone to be rebranded as The Surgery. The most loyal and vocal fan groups will be allocated tickets for that section and given John Spurgeon merchandise to show their support and intimidate the opposition.

Stephen Cotter: 2m
1m: Social media "Cotter-mouth" ad campaign that challenges fans to record their best trash talk to emulate the most controversial player in the HIFL and compete for the title of "Cotter-mouth." The competition will be split into two parts: one R rated and one for juniors. The competition will be promoted on all the popular social media outlets (whatever they are these days) and the winners will receive tickets the final home game of the season with "all-access" passes (does not include access to the dressing room when in use or other sensitive areas).

500k: Re-branding of the stadium's gym from the Maxfield gym to the Cotter Sports Center to allow fans to workout like their new hero LB.

500k: New Jersey Dragons team up with Bad Boy Nutrition to create a range of Stephen Cotter branded sports supplements. Instead of dodging his past, we'll tackle it head on and help fans get into fighting shape the way Cotter is this time around. No illegal or banned substances to be included.

Here is our team report after training camp sir... I have been asked to also tell you that naming Jarvis Botts as a defensive captain has only further rubbed salt into the figurative wound in our fan base and our locker room...

Okay, here you go.

Welcome back to New Jersey for season 7. This off-season has been exhausting, so I'm looking forward to seeing some football instead of paperwork. I know that a lot of the fans out there will be worried about the moves that we've made but I want to assure them that the team we're putting out this season is even better than what we had on the field last season. A lot of the focus has been on players who have left the team... some great players who have led us so close to success and who we are very grateful to... but every team needs to freshen up from time to time. We've brought in a lot of young, exciting players this for this season, particularly on offense, and I think you're going to see a more aggressive and exciting New Jersey Dragons.

We've got younger, meaner and hungrier players this season. Guys with points to prove and more than enough talent to do it. The goal, as it is every season, is to return to the Impact Bowl and win ourselves some rings. I think we're in a better position to do that this season than we were in s6 and I know that the NJ fans will be right behind us all the way to the big one.

A lot of fans look at football as a distorted sort of fun house mirror for society, and they like to point out things like controversial players and their impacts on the team or even the league as a whole...

Steven Cotter, how sure are you that he is clean and clear?

Stephen Cotter made a mistake in his rookie year and he's going to have to work hard to regain the trust of everyone in the HIFL. There's a lot of attention given to professional athletes and he'll be under the spotlight like nobody else. I believe in giving people a second chance when they deserve it, but I don't believe in third chances. That will be made very clear to Stephen and we'll help him stay clean so that he can achieve the goals he's set for himself and so that he can help us achieve ours. Stephen has big ambitions to be the best LB in the league and he tried to take a shortcut to get there. He made his mistake and paid for by losing his first shot at the HIFL. Stephen played his season in the APL without any trouble and I think he's a better person for that.

I talked to his agent, Eli Harris, in the offseason and I'll talk to Stephen when he reports for training. Eli's a professional agent with a reputation to maintain and Stephen is a professional football player with a reputation to repair. The league rules are very clear and the new league wide testing system leaves nowhere for drugs cheats to hide. Stephen won't make that mistake again.

I know it's a very different looking team, but I think it's a good one. I saw your notes from training camp and I'll look to get the issues dealt with as quickly as possible, other than the QB situation which will be resolved after we get a look at the team in the preseason games. Before we get to that, I want to mention your contract. You've got 1 season remaining and I definitely want to keep you here, so how does 3 years, 9.5m sound to you?

Alright, I'll speak to you again before I lock in for the preseason games.
---
Tong An, welcome back. I think the first order of business has to be to get in contact with Amber Molina.
---
Amber, I'm calling to put right my mistake in regards to Carl Hawkins' PR. His PR wasn't forgotten about, but there was a mistake on my part which resulted in it getting cut off the instructions that were sent to the PR department. Here's what I had planned for him:

Carl Hawkins: 1m
500K: Carl "The Hawk" Hawkins tv ad campaign. The advert opens with a hawk perched on top of a stadium. It looks around, watching for its prey and the camera switches to it's view. It sees the QB getting ready to throw and locks in on the ball. The camera swoops down as the ball is released and flies straight to its path. As it gets close, the camera cuts back to see Carl leaping across to make an interception and run it back towards the endzone. The ad ends with Carl standing in the endzone with the ball in his had and a hawk on his shoulder. His nickname appears above his head.

250k: A game on the NJ website and available on app stores where the gamers are hawk and have to try and pick off passes before the WRs catch them. The opponents will get increasingly scary looking as they get more powerful.

250k: Carl "The Hawk" Hawkins billboards showing the final shot from the TV ads. Carl standing with a ball in his hands and a hawk on his shoulder.

In addition to that PR, I would like to host an unveiling event for him. We'll invite sponsors, the press and fan groups to the stadium to introduce Hawkins to them. He'll emerge from the tunnel to fireworks and run a few simple but impressive looking drills before being handed his new jersey. It'll be a big photo-op for him and get him some one-on-one time with the key people who will have a hand in future endorsements.

I'll spend an extra 500k from my PR budget to make the even special. I hope this goes some way to making up for my mistake.

You just had a rough offseason didn't you Mr. Kirk?

Well letting your first round pick go without his promotions was definitely a big mistake, but I can see here that you did in fact have a plan and maybe your story about the dog eating your homework is in fact true.

..I ran this all by Mr. Hawkins, and he is excited about the additional 500K for the introduction event, and the rest of the PR work is spot on with what we wanted, so consider him happy to be a Dragon once again, but please... let's not keep making our talks have to be unpleasant, I'm really a nice chicka, when you get to know me.

...Toodles for now.

Things haven't gone exactly to plan, but I'm happy we could work this out. I'll get the paperwork dealt with momentarily. I'll endeavor to make sure that the next time I do something stupid, it's not with one of your players.
---

Tong An, can you call the team captains and Daniel Jennings up to see me.
---
Lads, first off I want to apologise for leaving Botts as a captain on the team sheet. Obviously that was a clerical error on my part and not intentional. Daniel, you're the captain of the secondary this season and your name should have been on the sheet instead of Botts'. You know the culture of the club and the way Coach Swope likes to run his defense batter than any of the other starters in the secondary, so I'm sure you're the perfect choice to help get your part of the defense on the same page. I'm going to spend some PR money to advertise the new captains so that the fans know who the new leaders are in this team.

Next up I want to talk about Cotter. I know that he's a divisive player with a huge ego and that he's had his run-ins with a few of you before, but if we can direct his attitude and energy towards disrupting our opponents instead of ourselves, the I think he adds an edge to our game that we've been missing. I know he's not an easy player to live with, but I need you guys, as captains, to help Colin Kuhn re-integrate Cotter into the team and minimize any disruption. I'm going to speak to Cotter when we're finished here to explain what's expected from him.

Do you have any comments or issues you want to bring up before we get down to preparations for the pre-season games?

Look at me... I am the captain now.

The PR is a good idea boss man, we'll do our best to keep "the Cotter" contained, but whew man, he's a handful...

I an only ask you to do your best. I'll let you get back to preparations for the pre-season games.
---
Tong An, I'd better speak to Stephen Cotter.
---
Mr. Cotter, welcome back to New Jersey. Firstly, I have to say that the New Jersey Dragons do not condone the use of PEDs or any other banned substances. This season, the league will be conducting regular, league wide drug testing so if you try it again you will be caught and your career will be over. I believe in giving people second chances, so I trust that this time you're going to play clean and work hard instead of taking shortcuts. If you have been using anything since going to the APL, it stops now and if you need any help in staying off the drugs, let us know and we will do whatever we can to assist you.

Having got that out of the way, I want to draw a line under last season's issues and focus on what you're going to do for us this season and in the future. Last season you told me that you see yourself as "the greatest linebacker in the history of football." I believe that you can be, which is why I've given you a long term contract. You've got all the tools you need to be a real monster on the field and an attitude that will drive opponents into making mistakes. I love your confidence and attitude, we just need to make sure you aim it in the right direction.

Are you ready to pull on the Dragons uniform once again and show everyone that this is the league where you belong?

The Cotter doesn't pull his uniform on, his uniform wraps around him to avoid punishment.

I'm hoping you'll have the same effect on opposing offenses. I'm very much looking forward to seeing you in action once again. I'm sure you're going to have a great season for us and have everyone talking about your dominance on the field instead of anything off it. Get back to training and be the best Cotter you can be.
---
Tong An, I'd like to see Coach Swope.
---
Coach, I saw your comments on our offseason moves and I can understand and share your disappointment. Things didn't go the way I would have liked, but I can assure you that I'm going to be making the rebuilding of an elite secondary the top priority for next season. If we get a chance to add to it during the year, I'll do my best to make it happen as well. I haven't made any decision to move away from your preferred formation and in fact I'd like to make a new commitment to it by extending your contract. I'd like to offer you 3 years at $8.5 million.

I appreciate the offer sir, but I am going to politely and respectfully decline at this time. I do have aspirations to become a head coach in the future, so I would prefer to do my best this year and see what prospects await me next season before considering more time as a defensive coordinator.

I can understand that and respect the ambition. Just know that you're very highly thought of here and we consider you a key part of the success we've had the last couple of years. Let's move on to your thoughts for this season. Now that you've seen the players in training, who do you think is best suited to be our Nickle back? Does Hawkins fit the bill there?

I think he would be great as our nickel back, he has very good talent to play all over the field.

So, you're happy with playing Hawkins as our nickle back and Rodriguez at SS? From your report, it doesn't seem as though Rodriguez has progressed at all.

If that's what we need to do, then Rodriguez can play the position, it's either that or we use Flannery at Nickle... We're either going to be weak at the nickle or weak at SS in the formation, I feel better about Rodriguez's speed to cover his mistakes..

Rodriguez hasn't shown much progression, but I still like him as a player.

Hopefully he'll improve as he gets more experience this season. I've already set the nickle up with Hawkins and Rodriguez playing in those positions in the depth chart, so we'll just leave it as it is and see how it goes in the pre-season games. The rest of the defense pretty much picks itself, so I won't keep you any longer. Can you ask Coach Stark to come up to see me again to go through the plans for those games.
---
Coach Stark, before I get to the line-ups for pre-season, I'd like to have a quick word with you about Oliver Smith. The report from training camp was disappointing compared to what I was expecting. Do you think it's worth switching his role to WR or just leave him as he is and hope he improves quickly as he gets used to the role?

I'm glad to hear that. Let Coach Sanchez know that I'm going to speak to him after we've seen the offense play together. Here's what I want to do:

Against Pearl Harbor: Mostly starters - John Carr at QB
The rest according to the camp lock-in sheet.

Against San Antonio: Mostly starters - Trevor Jose at QB
The rest according to the camp lock-in sheet.

Lock  in

As much as I love the contract negotiations, rumours and drama of the offseason, I'm bloody glad to finally get to some football. Yes, we didn't win the games, but preseason wins don't count towards the playoffs. Our new-look defense has come together quicker than I expected after the offseason upheaval. There's still some way to go, but it's very encouraging to see players like Leroy Herron stepping up. Those were two big DTDs that put a big smile on Coach Swope's face. Hagan has already shown the fans why he's here with multiple tackles, sacks and forced fumbles. On offense, the talk is all about who's going to start at QB. The way the press is covering the story makes it sound like we've walked into this with our eyes closed. There's a plan and there always has been. I'm not in the habit of sharing my plans with the press, so don't ask me to. Both players were given a chance in preseason to show what they can do and alter my decision, but I don't think either will be crowing about their performance. They've both got to know that we expect more when the real games start and I'm sure they do.

Right, any questions? Other than who's going to start at QB.
