Hello GM Corbin, Mr. Meer and Mr. Whart has asked me to inform you that we have a $10MM budget for scouting this off-season, this is all covered by the two of them and will not affect our budget for the rest of the season.  Please remember this scouting money is for both the college draft and free agents, plan wisely.  If you need a refresher on how much scouting costs, it is on page 9 of your GM handbook... http://espnsportssims.net/index.php?topic=1155.msg28962#msg28962

Please be advised, scouting trips are unavailable due to the college season being over.

We are required to attend the combine before we can do any interviews or workouts after the combine, if you have any questions please feel free to ask, I'll be at my desk.

Errm, Kiara, I do indeed have a question.

Is the maximum number of scoutable players via the combine five, or is there a way to watch more?

And further to that, will it be possible to request interviews after the combine, or do we have to submit all our intentions now?

For our coaches to conduct formal interviews to diagnose personality, we must declare who we wish to speak to during the combine.  Private workouts and film study may be done after the combine if we would like to.

...We can also spend our budget money to do additional film study or other forms of scouting, but the combine is a unique event and due to manpower we can only scout 5 players, the 2MM covers league fees, travel, and other costs.

Ok guys... This is it... The Season Five HIFL Rookie Draft...

You can all see the board, so if you've got any positions you want to prioritise, or names you like the look of, feel free to mark them or let me know the number on the board. This teams is yours as much as it is mine, so your input is welcomed.

Hopefully I can start here the same as I did in the NBL - With a few great rookie picks for us to make into future stars.

LET'S DO THIS!

Hello, I'm Scott Forrest.  Let's talk about this contract... We're looking for 5 years, 5.5MM as a lineman, Hugh has no interest in PR money.

Coach Cobb, can I get a quick word?

----------------------------------------------------

Coach, I'm sorry we didn't get Myers.. His name was running through my head, and then GM Jon went and called it.

I'd like to talk to you about our quarterback position, specifically that we're likely to need to trade out one of Brewster or Crawford as both are starter material. I'm thinking that we can use that to our advantage for some combination of players and/or getting a few more picks.

Now, the team owners informed me that while Crawford is the "current" starter and our most accurate guy, he's no team leader.. Whereas Brewster has all the tools to be a starter given a chance. At the time my personal lean was towards former draft pick Brewster as our No1 QB, but I'd like to know your thoughts and preferences before I talk to the players.

I honestly need to watch them in training camp and in the preseason. Sounds like a good old fashion QB battle.

You can keep looking if that's the lowest you're willing to go.

My report said he's good, but that there's others as-good... You're going to price yourself out of the market.

Get back to us if you change your mind and are willing to come down in price to something more reasonable for the position...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

GM CORBIN HEADS OUT TO SOMEWHERE QUIET THEN BANGS HIS HEAD INTO A WALL

I'm an idiot...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

HE RE-APPEARS

Kiara, can we gather the coaches, and if possible get the owners in on this too...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right... I'm going to apologise to you all for what has just happened... I'm an idiot...

This is my first football draft ever and I've just made a monumental mistake... That mistake is most likely a wasted high-end pick as I don't expect a call back with an offer that's reasonable.. Hell, even then I drafted waaaay out of what's expected according to what I've been hearing...

I'm disappointed in myself, as I always prided myself in the NBL on making the right pick in order to build the core of a decent team around rookies... Seems I've not got off to a good start doing that here.

I'll understand if you're not happy with me... I'M not happy with me...

I just...

I'm sorry.

Ok.. Guys.. A development...

We're up now, but we're being offered a chance to swap this pick for one later in this round, as well as two in the fifth round.

I'm mixed on taking it, with a possible lean towards it being a good idea. We'd get a chance to recover my pick mishap AND have an extra pick on top, but it will reduce the likelihood of good options being available.

Any thoughts before I make a final decision?

Now before you start, let me introduce myself.  I'm Eli Harris.  I don't play games, I don't do bidding wars, I simply give our asking price and I will hear one counter offer. I have a lot of work to do around the league today, so let's get this done.

We are looking for 2 years and 2MM

Kiara, is it possible to get back in contact with David Ames? I want to try something...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, I want to apologise for my actions earlier. I was frustrated because I'd heard comments from other GMs at the Draft about how out of place my pick was, and took those frustrations out on yourselves.

Since then I've had chance to reflect, and I'd like you to hear me out on something.

If we go our separate ways, Andrew is going to be seen as "that punter drafted in the second round by a GM's mistake and lack of understanding"... If we work together, he's got a chance to build a legacy as "the punter drafted in the second round because he's that damned good".

Based on that, I'd like to counter offer you with a 3 year, 2.5 million deal. However, I'm going to throw in $1million in PR to promote Andrew as a star attraction and to laud his achievement as the highest drafted punter in the history of professional football. I'd like him here, in Lincoln, with the number two on his back, creating history as the top punter this sport has ever seen.

What do you say? Can we find a deal?

We have a deal on Moore. One year gives us chance to get a feel for him before deciding firmly if he's right for our setup.

As for Kraft, what numbers are we talking for a multi-year deal? My scouting says he has the potential to blossom into a great feature back, so it'd be nice to know what seeing that development through would cost.

2 years 2MM and .250K PR
3 years 2.75MM and 500K PR etc etc etc

We have 20.50MM in salary and 7.75MM in PR/Budget

And that's a lot more than I was expecting. Think I'd added something up wrong somewhere when trying to check myself. Definitely on-course to complete our signings in under the cap if things go to plan.

Actually, after we did the 3 year option for Kraft and our last two picks we have 17.75 and 7.25... Sorry sir, I was tired last night.

Still all good numbers. With 4 spots left after the draft, I'll hopefully have around 5-mil per player for free agency, and plenty of PR for a few projects I have in mind.

Anyway, let's get our draft concluded first... Gary Mcmahon's representation please.

Is it still the same cost if we keep our pants on? Only I've got more business to attend to later and don't want to lose them.

Well, I suppose, but my pants are coming off either way.

That's entirely your choice.

I shall file the paperwork with the league office, and leave you to your pantslessness.

Right, that's the draft done. Which moves me on to my next order of business...

Before we start to celebrate our draft moves, Kiara, can I get our Quarterbacks Crawford, Brewster and Acker in here, along with Coach Cobbs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, firstly, hello to the three of you, I'm GM Corbin, your new General Manager for Season Five.

GM CORBIN TURNS TO BREWSTER

Now, William, I've been told by our owners that you want to be traded away in order to get yourself a starting place, I fully respect that. The past regime overlooked you, their own draft pick and a highly talented individual, to bring in Steven, a move that I personally don't quite understand from a loyalty standpoint.

What I ask, however, is that you give me a chance, and by that, I mean give me a chance to give you a chance.

GM CORBIN TURNS TO CRAWFORD

Steven, I know you've been this teams go-to guy for the last two years, but I'm a new GM with a new set of coaches and a clean slate to build this team into the image of my choosing. All reports say you're a top-end talent, but reports and results are different things.

GM CORBIN NOW ADDRESSES BOTH BREWSTER AND CRAWFORD

After speaking with Coach Cobbs, I have this to propose:

In the preseason we will have a head-to-head competition between yourselves through both the off-field training and pre-season games. Coach Cobbs will evaluate your performances and feed back to me on which of you has impressed him, which in turn I will then use in making my decision on which of the two of you begins Season Five as our starter.

Now I understand that whichever of you doesn't get picked as number one might have concerns and desires to move elsewhere. Should this be the situation, I will of course put your name out there and look for a favourable trade.

GM CORBIN TURNS TO EARL ACKER

Earl, don't think I've forgotten you.

With your blessing, I'd like to retain you as our backup. It's been brought to my attention that you're yet to take a HIFL snap, so we'd be running with the idea that in blowout situations, either for or against us, we'll bring you in to give you playing time in order to adapt you to the league. This will also allow you to raise your stock, should you reach the end of the year and be looking for a starting position, either here or elsewhere.

GM CORBIN OPENLY ADDRESSES THE ROOM

Does anyone have any questions or concerns? And are we all happy with the proposals put forwards?
