1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
I think we played a great game. We slowed down a really good offense and then in the second half our offense did a really good job of controlling the game and taking advantage of opportunities. Turnovers early on showed up again but we’ll continue to work through that.

2. Talk about this weeks league news, what stood out most to you?
I think Stealin’ Seconds V2 has a small place in my heart but I think the big thing was Carlson’s game and how good that Seattle team has been this year. GM Jon’s done one helluva job over there in turning things around quickly and deserves a ton of praise.

3. What do you make of the news of the newest GM's to join the league? What advice would you give them?
Congratulations. Welcome to the league. We’ll see you the field. As far as advice, none. Anything that could help them I’d rather keep internal to Vegas.

4. With the draft class being announced later this week, do you plan to target personalities, skill sets, or position groups at the college showcase?
I think we’ve always paid attention to personalities and making sure we have guys that are going to fit well into our locker room and on the field.

5. What do you hope to gain most this week during the bye week, for yourself but also for your team?
I think the bye week is good. Gives us a chance to nurse any nagging bugs and injuries and then refocus on the second third of the year. I trust our players will use it wisely.

I'm all for it. I want Steph thinking he's Superman out there; leaping tall buildings, indestructible, all that jazz. Our turf. Our Superman.

That was a hell of a win. Shutting out scrubs like Oakland and Tombstone is one thing, but flustering the Alabama offense and scoring on their defense is a big win.  Now we just need to do the same thing to Orlando next week.

I agree. That's going to be a big test for us with how good they are in the passing game. It's why we made some moves though to stand up against that type of offense. What's the feel in the locker room right now? We're riding high but the Nutt stuff earlier in the year hasn't slipped my mind and this new Superman thing - I know Shelley's not a rook but it's a lot of attention that I want to make sure the guys aren't feeling it's undeserved.

Right now things are going great, I think Shelley's new found .."Swag?" has the group feeling pretty confident.  The Nutt thing is still on my mind as well, but right now it seems to be a non-factor.

Awesome. I might talk to Steph then about how we can promote and get behind him even further. Is there anything else you want to discuss? I think we've covered off pretty well everything from the first third of the season.

Perfect - I did think of one thing I wanted to ask about and that was Ruiz and Hanlon at TE. Hanlon's looked good but he's a rookie and is a player we can move to the minors if we had to in an emergency. How do you rate the two amongst each other - and if Hanlon is that guy do we then have a chip in Ruiz to move elsewhere if necessary?

I view Hanlon as our guy, Ruiz is definitely expendable.

Demi - can you get me Jennifer at the league office on the line.

Jennifer, I think I fucked up and traded a player that was not on our minor league roster. I'd like to self-report and agree to pay a 500K fine and forfeit our 3rd round draft pick and I'll then work with Cleveland on making a trade.

Hello GM Metro, I was just on the other line with your secretary. Now, while I personally feel that your offer to sacrifice such a high draft pick in order to lower your fine is a very good idea, the league's policy has clearly been established and the fine is set as a minimum $1MM PR fine.

Unfortunately for you, that places your team $500K over the PR cap, meaning you will have to bring your PR balance back to a neutral or positive balance before you lock in this week in order to avoid further punishment.

As it stands, being a minor-league prospect only trade, the league is not fining you a draft choice.

Please send your roster move to the league office once you have determined what must be done.  Due to the nature of your predicament you may use your next-season amnesty clause early if you have no other option.

Please be more careful in the future.  Thank you.

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
We played really well. Exceptionally so on defense and we moved the ball on offense. Shelley throwing for 300+ and running for over 100 as a team. We could have finished our drives a little better but beyond that we did a lot really well.

2. Talk about this weeks league news, what stood out most to you? (cover at least two topics)
I think you're starting to really see teams realize where they're at this season and you then get all the GM's at the Rookie Showcase and roster movement is inevitable. Keenan Daley's also looked very impressive - he did the same thing to us earlier this season and that really has helped San Antonio this season.

3. How did you feel about the first annual HIFL/NCAA Showcase?  Do you feel like it was a beneficial addition to the league?
I think Comissioner Wilkinson did a great job with putting it together and working with the NCAA. I think getting a chance to see the incoming class here and then be around stadiums and then the combine helps us evaluate players and make sure we're getting players for this league both on and off the field.

4. What was your take on the amount of GM errors that occurred during the bye-week?
I'm focused on our own ship. Not the mistakes that other GM's are making.

5. Do you plan on making any call ups this week before locking in?
I think our Coaching and Scouting staff are going to come together and see what is best for our team.

6. Talk about your game this upcoming week.
Going to face the champs in primetime. Really, that's the best you can ask for in the regular season. We'll be ready to go.

Good win, even with the ugly game.  Taking it to Orlando in their house is huge, especially since we're in another tight-race with San Antonio.  Every win keeps pace, we just have to have the endurance to go the distance.

Yeah - I think we sent a message to the rest of the league with that game and now facing the champs it's time to cement it. I think we can make a move or two this week to add a bit to our offense/special teams but wanted to touch base on Rapid City. Historically we've had success keeping the ball away from Lightner and exploiting the slot against them and upping our pass ratio. With Ponder, Saunders and Hanlon is that something you're comfortable with?

We can, but I also think that they've been getting murdered on the outside with teams exposing Richmond, so I think we can run it either way.

I'm ok using Mackey as our primary target - I know Rich has struggled but my only though process is what he did last year against us in a "revenge" game. He seemed to play up a bit. Thoughts?

Ah, I didn't think about that, I didn't watch a lot of Vegas games last year.  If you're worried about him lets go with your first plan, but I'm not afraid of some scorned kid who wants payback.

Ok - I wanted to ask about Michael Hodge. We've still got draft capital to make a big splash happen but it'd probably end up costing us a roster receiver as well. I've been wary of trading players from our active roster and I like the team we've got but would he help spark the offense or are our bad games more a function of Stephen developing still? He played in the slot for me in Pearl Harbour but if he played on the outside, could Mackey slide down? What do we look like? I know it's a lot but with an all-time defense this year I'm willing to shove my chips into the middle in the right scenario.

As talented as Hodge is, I really don't know if its the best idea to bring him back to Vegas. ..however if you think you can manage him, I think he plays well at any spot on the field.  Mackey is versatile enough to move and shift around the field as needed, especially with us pushing for the division and having a championship caliber defense.

Ok - I'll take that under advisement then. Is there someone else who might be available you'd like? I am also thinking we bring up Smith. I didn't trade for him to sit in the minors. I think he can help us immediately in the kicking game and potentially as a receiving weapon out of the backfield.

Max Ramos in Charlotte is having a sneaky-good season and is on his final year.  I've always been a fan of Matthew Grover in Music City, as well as Eric West down in Atlanta, they all fit our field stretching offense in different ways. I'd also love to Coach Burton Tibbetts, if Alabama falls into the tank and decides to go into a fire-sale.

Outside of that, I do think Smith could contribute on the main roster, if he can hold onto the football.

Sounds good. I know I've tried to get West previously but the couple of the other names I'll check in on.

I've promoted Smith so we should be good to go.

PRIMARY RECEIVER: Robert Ponder
KR1 = John Smith
KR2 = Danny Edelman
PR1  = John Smith
PR2 = Danny Edelman

Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
On the road in primetime against the defending champs. That’s really a chance to make a statement and we did. It wasn’t easy but we battled and made some big plays when it mattered. Any time you get a defensive score and a special teams score you’re happy and it should lead to a victory. Our defense played a stud game, Smith comes up and makes an impact in the kicking game, and I want to give a big shout out to John Pitts. He’s been one of the top receivers in the league over the last four years in so far as his receiving stats but he’s always been a complete player and that really showed this week in the running game with his blocking.

2. Give us an evaluation of the first half of the season for your team, who has stood out both good and bad?
We’ve got the best record in the league but we can’t get complacent. Our defense has been on a historic pace but we’ve struggled at times to protect the ball. We continue to improve we’ll be good.

3. With where you sit in the standings, how do you feel about your chances of meeting your owners expectations and how do you grade your performance as GM, what about your job security?
We have high expectations for this team as part of our culture. We continue to work hard and do our jobs we’ll be in good position to meet expectations. My performance and job security is really secondary to the great players who come in day in, day out, and try to get better and work towards an Impact Bowl Championship. They’re worth talking about – not me.

4. Who is your league-wide Mid-season MVP?  Who has been the most surprising under performer?
Barkley. Game in game-out he’s locking down the other teams best receiver and his addition has elevated our defense from elite to all-time. I’m not in other teams locker rooms so talking about their players performance would be quite ignorant.

5. Which of your division rivals has surprised you the most? How and Why?
I think Tombstone has surprised me the most. You knew this was going to be a rebuilding year but they’ve started to assemble a good core of young talent despite the turmoil in their front office over the last year or two.

6. With the Trade Deadline coming up this week, Do you see yourself as a buyer, a Seller, or do you plan to hold fast with what you have?
I’ve never been afraid to make deals to better our team but I highly doubt – especially with the new luxury tax – that we’ll be making a deal. We’ve got an awesome team and I think a big part of that is chemistry and so any deal really has to factor that in.

7. What is your opinion on the league's newly announced luxury tax rule, do you believe it is fair, and do you believe it will benefit the league?
I like the idea of a luxury tax but I’m not sold on it’s impact on the PR cap is the right way to do it.

8. Talk about your game this upcoming week, what do you need to focus on most?
Heading home to face a good Bruins team. Need to protect the ball and continue to play good defense. We know how good that offense can be .

Not exactly the prettiest win Coach but we got the come out roll and that's what matters. We made big plays and showed a ton of balls in answering the bell multiple times. I'm proud of the team and I'm hoping you can communicate that to them. This was a massive win for this organization.

I appreciate it Coach. I like being in control but we were in the same position last year and fucked it up. I think we're in good position for a playoff birth but that's not why either of us are here. Eight games in - what's your brutally honest opinion of Shelley.

He is an unpolished Marcus Mariota... Where Mariota has developed into a well rounded quarterback, Shelley has the skills but he is still learning to put it all together.  The fumbles are alarming, but in his games prior to this year he never really turned it over a ton, so it could work itself out.  Clearly his window and our current situation might be a little off-set though.  I feel like we'd be even better than we are now, if we had a quarterback who was more "ready" if that makes sense.

Consider Merv Patton wasn't ready to win when he was backing up Christian Sullivan for me in DC, now look at him.. but I'd trade him again and again if it got me those two championships.

That's my thought process almost too a "T". What about intangibles? In the locker room? How do the other guys act with him? I love the kid and everything he's ever done and I've ever seen says he has the potential to be a stud but you've nurtured two of them and I'd be remiss to not ask.

He has all the intangibles, in my eyes. The biggest difference between Stephen and my past QBs is that he just isn't nearly as far along in his development.  He's doing what he's doing and still probably is only performing at a fraction of what he could be doing one day.

It's good to know that we're on the same side then. I wanted to ask about maybe approaching him about extra work with you specifically. I want to know his current schedule a bit and see if there's room and whether you are comfortable with that? I think we've got an Impact Bowl winning team - hell we just beat the reigning champs - but I see the turnovers and the fact we get into ruts where we don't move the ball as potential pit falls.

He's currently spending 5 hours on each of the 4 categories.

Ok - I'll have a word with him but I think I want to cut out the athleticism and physical portion. Steph's great there already and any regression is going to get made up for elsewhere. I want to spend an extra five on position and film. Any extra that he's willing to commit too we'll put to film. Does that work? As part of position training we'll continue to work on his ball security in the pocket, right?

Sounds good - I don't think there's anything we need to change for Kansas City but I did want to ask how Nutt is looking in practice. I know with our 3-3-5 he doesn't see as many reps.

He's raw, makes mental mistakes from time to time, but he's coming along.  He definitely has the raw talent, we're just working to get him to put it all together more often.

Sounds good - as long as he is working hard I'm OK with the mental mistakes for now. It's part of the learning curve. I think we reset back to our normal looks against Kansas City but otherwise I don't think there's anything else. I'll let you get back to practice.

Can I get Steph up here please Demi?

Steph, how's it going? We're doing a little bit of reflection this week. How do you think the first half's gone as both a team and personally?

Well I mean, we just talked two weeks ago about my confidence level and all, I'm feeling good, I'm playing hard, but I'm just wanting to work on eliminating the turnovers so I can help my boys win the next 11 games and bring home that trophy.

I was more concerned about the tangible piece but you've covered it off.

I talked with Coach and we want to change up the training you get, have you working with him more closely, and put in some extra hours. We both think you'll be a stud in the future and I'm hoping to accelerate that timeline. You're a key cog but I want more from ... no, I want more FOR you. We're the top team in the league and looking at the stats you're top ten in a bunch, that's nothing to sneeze at, but you're so much better than that. There's no reason you can't be top 5 in every stat, leading the league in a couple. We want you to be the guy driving this team. The leadership, the swagger, that's two of the three pieces but moving from "feeling good, playing hard" to "I'm going to be the MVP of the league" is that last step.

That's my challenge to you. I'm not expecting it to happen overnight but I wouldn't ask it if I didn't think you had the potential and the ability to do it.

Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?
We did a lot well this week. Steph had a great game, we moved the ball effectively on the ground, and John Pitts was huge on the outside. We looked like a complete offense to start the second half of the season and that’s something I think we can take and build on; be able to look back and see what we’re capable of putting together when things inevitably get tough at the end of the season. They won the kicking game battle and that helped them rally late but there’s still a lot to like.

2. With the All-Star Rosters being announced this week, what is your take on the composition, any snubs or surprises from your own team?
There’s so much talent in this league that there’s going to be people who think there players should’ve made it or that someone who did wasn’t deserving. I know I wouldn’t have wanted to have to pick and I think every all-star is deserving. To have nine people representing the Las Vegas Scorpions is an honor and a testament to their hard work in elevating themselves to an elite level.

3. What news stories stood out to you this week?
I think Thanksgiving Dinner is going to be interesting this year in the Graham household. Miami’s ground attack was also a big one. We’ve seen a resurgence this year in the ground game and I’m wondering how it’s going to not just impact game-planning going forward but also what general managers do when putting their team together.

4. Talk about your game this upcoming week, what do you need to focus on most?
Cleveland’s a good team. Smoak and Elliott are two of the top players at their positions. Apparently according to GM Eli there’s weaknesses in our defense that they’re going to exploit so I guess that’s what we’ll be focusing on the most?

Weaknesses... in our #1 ranked defense.  Good one.
