I think it's my pick but I'm at work and don't have my draft information with me. Talon has my proxy list and there are still names on it.

What's with people buying forfeited picks? Since when was that a rule?

Dazz forfeited his picks in the draft, so Talon decided to let other teams buy them if they wanted.

Frankly that's a rule I am entirely against without prior warning or discussions on how it works. Completely unfair and unbalanced, particularly coming out of the blue.

Could have an auction or waiver system. Either would be far better than just giving cheap picks to whoever happens to be on Discord at the time.

The way I see it, forfeiting a pick is more/less giving the pick to the league.

The money for the pick is going to a good cause. The GM Relief Fund.

Not all rules need to be agreed to by all players and for all we know, GM Gates as our elected GM Rep discusses it with the league office and placed it into motion.

This isn't an IC issue. Not everyone spends the same time on Discord and a sudden rule like this creates a two tier game.

Itís really no different then being around at the right time for anything though.

Player A wants to make a trade because they arenít around the computer and donít know who to draft so they say theyíll trade the pick for pocket lint. Enter Player B who just happens to be in Discord and sees the cry for help.

Or when free for all free agency starts. Youíre either around or your not when it begins. And if youíre not, youíll miss out of those UDFA players you might have been banking on signing.

More and more information is coming through Discord rather than the boards now. If the information was placed on the boards and you were away all weekend... thatís just shit luck.

The decision to allow players to buy forfeited picks is to discourage players from forfeiting picks because if you look at it from a realistic POV, it makes zero sense.

Nobody is gaining any glaring advantage by purchasing the forfeited picks. Itís in the back end of the 5th Round and 2 7th Round picks.

the draft pick thing was on me.  Trying to do too many things away from the computer while working and getting ready to leave town again.

I have no problem with how I used the picks as forfeitures and will continue to do so in the future, the error was not realizing Dazz wanted to proxy the 5th round pick and forfeit the rest later if his proxy board was dry.

I had over 350 PMs on discord this week and frankly its too much.  Things get lost and overlooked, and while its my "job" to keep my stuff in order Im also hoping you all understand that this is supposed to be a hobby for me, and when it becomes a job or a chore things have to change.

So the draft is cancelled effective immediately.  None of that or the UDFA's possibly wanting more money if they were likely to be drafted is up for debate.

We will start free agency day one -- WHEN I SAY IT STARTS -- do not PM me offers until I ask for them or they will be auto-rejected and I will burn those hours off of your time.

I'll effort to update the google sheet with what I have for team sheets prior to starting the day 1 free agency.

Talon isn't entirely at fault for the confusion here. I should have made my preferences more clear in an updated proxy list but got lazy and tried to explain my update in a pm.

In light of the draft being cut short I would like to put forward the idea of reducing future drafts to 5 rounds anyway. I think 32 teams and 7 rounds is too much, particularly with the level of trading we all get through. There are a lot of free agent players and few retirements each year so the player pool is big enough to cope with a shorter draft. What do people think?

You only need to convince the GM rep.

For those of you wondering what has happened to my pictures and videos of the acting job I had, the lead actor decided to be a diva so the whole thing was canceled while they beg him to return to set. No idea when it will happen now.

I can get on board with this except what happens to all the extra 6 and 7 rounders thatís weíre traded for next season.

Hard pass. Scout better and don't rely on deferral and strategy.

Blind pick and use every bit of info available if need be but with a huge roster with numerous retirements each year, cutting the draft increases the number of UDFA players and will inevitably increase what they ask for

There's a lot more opportunities for players who would have been UDFA to claim they would have been drafted and ask for a bigger payday...

It's how this game works...

But those rounds wouldn't exist, so they wouldn't have an argument. When we have seven rounds, have you ever heard a UDFA say "I would've been drafted in the 8th so you should pay me more?"

I wont be getting rid of the back end of the draft.  It was a pain to do it htis time. I had to auto-draft then go delete each individual player from each teams rosters.

I dont think he means he deleted anyone except the people that were the picks for the last couple rounds of the draft we skipped, he just took so he could advance the sim, not any guys you already had.

I hope all you GMs who just got bailed out are putting in for Talon's Christmas whisky fund. He's done you all a huge favour. Back in the day, we used to get punished for fucking up and have dead money on our books for years.
