CRAWFORD MAKES AMAZING FIRST IMPRESSION, LEADING LONG BEACH TO OVER TIME UPSET!

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii --- Long Beach and new franchise QB Steven Crawford walked into Jurassic Park looking to score an upset and thanks to a 21 point 4th quarter rally that sent the game to overtime, they did just that winning the game on a 40 yard touchdown strike to tight end Joseph Herzog.  After the game, Crawford was interviewed on the sidelines and said.

"I'm just so happy to be here in Long Beach.  We have a lot of talent here and management who appreciates talent.  This is just the beginning, this was a statement win, the Mermen are coming for the West!"

Another standout performer in the game was Long Beach WR Luigi Lewis who caught 5 passes for 154 yards, none more important than the 45 yard catch and run with 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter that got the Mermen into the Pearl Harbor redzone setting up the game tying touchdown.

RB MONTES SHOWS ABILITY TO DOMINATE, AVERAGES 6.2 PER CARRY VS. MERMEN!

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii -- Coming into his 3rd season as a pro Alphonso Montes is excited about the chance to build on last seasons 1361 yard 11 TD season, he got off to a good start in week 1 against the Long Beach Merman where he carried the ball 17 times for 105 yards (an average of 6.2 yards per carry).

The Mermen seemed helpless when trying to stop Montes at the line of scrimmage and the young back out of Cal Poly-SLO said it was just the beginning, saying:

"Well you know, I want to run hard on every play, but I couldn't do it without the big boys in front of me.  They do the hard work, I just find the holes and try to break a tackle or two once I'm in space.  If they keep opening lanes I'm going to have another big year, and that means we're going to have a great season despite the loss today."

Many around the league praise Montes for his "team first" mentality and his sportsmanship, something that can be hard to find these days in professional sports.

ALL I DO IS WYNN: JOHN WYNN RUINS DRAGONS HOME OPENER AFTER KICKING GAME WINNER!

Newark, NJ -- Outplayed in nearly every category on the stat sheet, on paper it would seem that the New Jersey Dragons played the winning football game, but thanks to a strong defensive performance that yielded just one touchdown and the accurate right foot of kicker John Wynn, the St. Paul Lynx got their week 1 win on the road in New Jersey by kicking an 18 yard chip shot with 15 seconds remaining. The FG was Wynn's third of the day also connecting on two FG's in the first half from 44 and 43 yards respectively. Wynn was overjoyed after the game as he spoke with sideline reporters...

"It's amazing!  It's just so great to Win this game for my team.  Both teams played hard, it was close, and this is what I live for! All I do is WIN Baby!"

In a game where both teams defenses worked hard to keep the opposing team out of the end zone and St. Paul couldn't run the ball effectively, the Lynx have to feel lucky to come out of this game with a W, and the Dragons will undoubtedly feel like they let one slip away.

SEATON SAYS TEAMS DOUBLE TEAMING MARQUEZ ARE MAKING A MISTAKE!

Newark, NJ -- 5th year Defensive End Jose Seaton says he sees teams double teaming fellow DE William Marquez is a gross underestimation of his own abilities.  Seaton who has only 12 career sacks coming into the season recorded #1 on the year while wrecking havoc on the St. Paul Lynx in the run game and by pressuring QB Giovanni Hill.  Seaton said:

"Dudes think that Marquez is the only guy on the team who can cause chaos, but they gon' learn if they keep lettin' me run 1 on 1, I'm gonna eat greedy bruh, all day!"

Seaton collected 8 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, forced a fumble and had his first sack of the year mainly because the presence of William Marquez gives him a more favorable match up on the defensive line.  Marquez, who also had a sack, was limited to only 2 tackles, but coach Joan Swope feels that Marquez's ability to make other players better and improving match ups for his defense is just as valuable as having Marquez stuff the stat sheet.

ALFRED PUTS THE "GLASS CEILING" ON VEGAS, INTERCEPTING STAR QB JOSE TWICE!

Las Vegas, NV -- Oakland defensive backs captain Alfred Glass made two head turning interceptions in the seasons first Sunday Night Football game as his Silverbacks took on the defending Western Conference champion Las Vegas Outlaws.

Glass intercepted Trevor Jose in the first quarter at midfield halting a drive and allowing the Silverbacks to put a touchdown drive of their own together, and then made sure the prime time audience didn't think it was a coincidence by picking off another pass at the Oakland 42, returning it 58 yards for a score!

Glass took home defensive player of the game honors for his performance, but more importantly put every Quarterback in the league on notice.

The Silverbacks will have to rely heavily on their traditionally strong defense as the team continues to work to rebuild and recover from a last place finish last season.

DESPITE INTERCEPTIONS, JOSE THROWS FOR 3 TOUCHDOWNS AND 348 YARDS IN SEASON DEBUT!

Las Vegas, NV -- Scorpions star Quarterback Trevor Jose showed his moxy this week, despite throwing 3 first half interceptions the slinger from Texas continued to test the defense on his way to a 348 yard performance that included 3 passing touchdowns.  Jose kept his team in the game late despite being part of the reason they were behind entering the second half and offensive coordinator and former teammate Cameron Hollingsworth said this of his quarterback:

"Trevor is definitely a guy who can rebound from a bad first half.  He's got the guts and the arm to make it happen and that's why we didn't stop airing it out.  We have the team to comeback from any deficit, it might not work every night and clearly we don't want to be in this position too often, but if I had to be down 14 in the second half there is no other QB I'd want in my line up to lead the charge."

MACKEY DOES IT ALL IN ROUTE TO OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS!

Mobile, AL -- Jose Mackey was honored this week as offensive player of the week after Mackey's 2 Touchdown 197 total yardage performance against the Orlando Stampede. Mackey from Virginia Tech was selected in round 1, 4 years ago by the Tombstone Outlaws and traded to Alabama last season as the MVP won his first impact bowl.

Mackey's 106 yards rushing and 91 yards receiving on 8 catches continued to show why many see Mackey as the best all-around player in the HIFL, and possibly the sport of football period.  With Mackey, Tibbetts, and Wright as the triumvirate of champions in Alabama it will be tough for anyone to derail this team's pursuit for a 4th HIFL championship.

Mackey is joined this week by Oakland cornerback Alfred Glass who was named Defensive player of the week after his 2 interception performance against the Las Vegas Outlaws..

ORLANDO OWNER PLEASED WITH GM GRAVEDIGGER'S DECISION TO STAY IN ORLANDO

Orlando, FL -- GM Gravedigger went from fighting a drunk to get a job as GM to being the hottest GM on the market when GM Rebel resigned from Oakland.   Many believed that GM Gravedigger, a long time Oakland fan, would instantly tender his resignation and take the job before this season got underway, but much to Matt Adores and the rest of the Orlando Stampede organization's surprise Gravedigger announced that he was indeed committed to staying with Orlando and making the team an HIFL Champion.

Team owner Matt Adores is said to have gained "Major" respect for GM Gravedigger and the team sees him as a much more loyal GM than they may have thought at the beginning of the offseason, undoubtedly GM Gravedigger's decision to stay with the Stampede has had a positive effect on his reputation.

NCAA DRAFT PROSPECTS LOOK TO IMPRESS IN WEEK ONE OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON!

Running Back Jeremy Martin is hoping to lead Kentucky to an SEC Championship and a spot in the College football playoff this season and with a loaded team of juniors and seniors all with eyes on the HIFL, this season is a make or break year for the Wildcats.

The 'Cats open the season in a neutral site battle with in-state ACC Rival Louisville and many experts expect this game to set the pace for UK's entire season.  Can Martin, a Heisman hopeful do enough to lead his team to victory?

This is just one storyline of several as the college football season prepares to kick off and we will bring you more on the college football season through out the year.  Teams will undoubtedly look to begin scouting players now and through out the season to hopefully find the missing pieces for their team's title dreams.

ROOKIE RB CHRISTOPHER ALLEN EXPLODES ONTO SCENE SETTING RUSHING TOUCHDOWN RECORD!

Oakland, CA --- The Silverbacks fan base may be bitter over GM Rebel's hasty resignation, but many analysts around the league are praising the work the former GM did in his limited time with the team.  After scoring the surprise week 1 upset in Las Vegas, rookie 4th round draft pick Christopher Allen exploded for 4 rushing touchdowns against the Long Beach Mermen!

Allen was named the starting RB by the coaching staff after GM TJ arrived, but the fact that Allen landed in Oakland in the draft is credit to GM Rebel and his eye for talent.  After the game Silverbacks' coach Vic LeBlanc told ESPN:

"GM TJ has to feel good about what he has here, but he can't forget to give credit where it is due.  My staff and GM Rebel worked hard in the off season to turn this franchise around, and clearly we are showing signs of life.  It's a long season, so we just have to execute and work hard on and off the field."

Allen already has 233 yards on the season meaning he has 14 more games to gain the 267 yards he needs to achieve his opt out clause.  If Allen rushes for 500 yards this season the 2nd year of his contract (2.5MM) becomes a player option, allowing the young back to hit free agency and seek a larger contract.

ROOKIE LB LEAKE GARNERS PRAISE FROM OAKLAND HEAD COACH!

Oakland, CA --- Long Beach first round pick Stephen Leake has put his mark on the league as a ferocious tackler as he has averaged 10+ tackles per game and also notching his first sack of the season against Oakland QB Jerry Harris.  After the game Oakland Head Coach Vic LeBlanc was asked what he thought of Leake, and he immediately lit up saying:

"That kid is special.  He's a unique and talented kid who is going to continue to make big plays for years to come.  I think he is one of those kids who will tackle everything in his path, I mean, he only missed like one tackle against us and we were pretty shifty out there today."

To correct Coach LeBlanc, Leake did not miss a single tackle in the game and has yet to do so in either of his first two starts, clearly GM Pancho has to be smiling wide after seeing his rookie linebacker making such big waves on the field.

McREYNOLDS PRAISED BY COACHING STAFF FOR STRONG START TO THE SEASON!

Newark, NJ -- While the New Jersey Dragons' would obviously prefer to be 2-0 to start the season the coaching staff is still keeping their focus on the good to start the season, one of the brightest spots has been the hot start for wide receiver Eugene McReynolds.  McReynolds (28) has 11 catches for 174 yards and 2 TDs to start the season, which is big considering the WR has never had more than 4 career touchdown catches in his previous 4 seasons with the Dragons.  HE also has not dropped a pass yet this year and is showing good chemistry with quarterback Michael May.

Head Coach Benson Stark said "Eugene is playing good football for us right now, we see him as a key part of our passing game especially after the game he has this week against Alabama, 6 catches, 113 yards and a 3rd quarter touchdown that had given us the lead... You can't praise him enough for that effort against the defending champions."

BAMA WR BURTON TIBBETTS AND JERSEY CB JARVIS BOTTS ENGAGE IN TWITTER WAR!

Mobile, AL -- A lack of production to start the season has seemingly flustered Alabama star wide receiver Burton Tibbetts who waged war on New Jersey cornerback Jarvis Botts after the two squared off this weekend in Newark, NJ.

Tibbetts who had 7 catches for only 37 yards and no touchdowns started things off by tweeting that Botts was "So-So at Best" after all the preseason praise Botts garnered as one of the most improved players in the league.  Botts responded reminding Tibbetts he only gained 37 yards and failed to score against him as the two were primarily lined up against one another by saying "Stat sheet don't lie homie, you got catches but didn't do ish with it."

The battle raged for an hour with Tibbetts also pointing out Botts had no picks and only made one official tackle in the game, telling the young corner "don't take credit for the rest of your teams system little boy."

Eventually the tweets stopped when one of the two players cellphones apparently died, but needless to say neither man is fond of the other.

Tibbetts is only averaging 6.5 yards per reception this season which is a long way from his career average of 22.4 yards per catch, he also has yet to score a touchdown after scoring 18 last season and 25 in his best season back in Season 2. Tibbetts has yet to have a 20+ yard catch after having 24 last season as well.

BRIAN OWEN ACCUSED OF THREATENING TO RAPE FANS AFTER ORLANDO/DC GAME!

Orlando, FL -- Brian Owen, quarterback for the Orlando Stampede is in hot water today after the boisterous "to raw for TV" player had a great game, earning Player of the Game honors and celebrated at a local Orlando bar, but that is where things got interesting.

Three female Stampede fans have come forward saying that the Quarterback was buying them drinks at the bar when he decided it was time to go home.  One of the victims says that Owen demanded the three women come with him and when they declined he threatened to "rape them all over the town like they were Cobras players."

While many fans say that Owen uses that terminology all the time others feel that the Quarterback has gone too far and deserves to be disciplined legally and by the Orlando management.  Owen and his agent Steve Rosenhaus declined comment.

More on this story as it develops.

MEEKS SAYS ROYAL CAN LEAD TEAM TO WINS WHILE SULLIVAN IS INJURED.

Washington, DC --- Cobras leading receiver, TE Bobby Meeks gave his vote of confidence to first time starter Michael Royal after the team's game this week against the Orlando Stampede.   Meeks caught a team high 8 passes for 86 yards bringing his season total to 16 catches for 169 yards (top ten in the league) and said he was comfortable with Royal at QB, saying:

"Christian is helping Michael prepare which is obviously a big help but Michael is a talented player who just needed an opportunity to shine.  He gets the ball out quickly and lucky for me he likes throwing to the tight end (haha).  I don't think we're in trouble, we can win games with Royal at QB, hopefully enough games to fight for a playoff spot when Christian comes back to the line up."

Meeks, who was a hot commodity during free agency, has stepped up big so far for the Cobras and currently leads all tight ends in the receiving department.

McALLISTER'S 2 INT'S SET PACE FOR DOMINANT DEFENSIVE EFFORT!

St. Paul, MN -- Lynx rookie Cornerback Burton McAllister made a big impact in only his second career HIFL game picking off two passes from Bruins' QB Herbert Perryman taking one back in the 4th quarter for a touchdown!

McAllister a 3rd round pick this season by the Lynx out of Eastern Illinois was all smiles after the game during his post game press conference.  When asked how it felt to make such an impact as a rookie McAllister said...

"It's not just me out there making those plays, I made the picks but it was because my team helps me be great.  They cover their men, that forces a throw my way and I made the most of it today. We hopefully showed that it's not just the ground that freezes when teams come to St. Paul, we freeze the opponents offense too, ya hear that?"

McAllister is a nominee for defensive player of the week after his 4 tackle, 2 INT, TD performance.

PATIENCE WEARING THIN? HAAS CONTEMPLATING MAKING FREEDMAN STARTER OVER GONZALES?

Jefferson City, MO --- After another 12 carry game with less than 40 yards gained on the ground, 31 year old Philip Gonzales' spot as starting running back may be nearing its end in Missouri as Bruins' offensive coordinator Jim Haas is rumored to be contemplating promoting back up Roger Freeman or even seeking a replacement in free agency to help spark an anemic run game, a run game that is supposed to be the primary focus of the Bruins offense.

Haas, a stuborn coordinator who wants to run as much as possible, has been forced to pass more with veteran scrambler Herbert Perryman, which has not been very successful either despite Perryman having great targets in rookies Mauricio Lopez and Martin Back, along with 2nd year wideout Daniel Randolph.

Haas is also reportedly frustrated with coaching under a coach who has very little football knowledge in Jimmy Eubanks who has not done much on the sidelines other than work to encourage and motivate his players, which so far has not translated to much success.

GM Gooch has admittedly accepted that this year and possibly next is more of a rebuilding project than anything else, but management and the players still believe that the GM wants to win games, which has actually helped morale in the clubhouse over the past few weeks.

SHOOTOUT IN THE DESERT: ROBLES FLASHES MVP CALIBER PERFORMANCE!

Tombstone, AZ -- In a prime time match up between Tombstone and Pearl Harbor this weekend fans were treated to a game in which both teams came out blazing in a game that saw 84 total points scored with 11 total touchdowns.

Tombstone Runningback Curt Robles rushed for 76 yards and a TD, caught 5 passes for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns, and returned 1 kickoff for 44 yards for a combined total of 280 total yards and 4 touchdowns!

Robles was unstoppable out of the backfield as Pearl Harbor's talented linebacker corps seemed lost at times as the lethal running back had TD receptions of 28, 38, and 48 yards all in the first half.

Robles is a clear favorite for offensive player of the week, it is obvious that the sore knee is not hindering the young man at all as Tombstone looks to maximize his touches.

SHOOTOUT IN THE DESERT: BEASLEY GOES OFF WITH 2 TD GRABS!

Tombstone, AZ -- In a prime time match up between Tombstone and Pearl Harbor this weekend fans were treated to a game in which both teams came out blazing in a game that saw 84 total points scored with 11 total touchdowns.

6'5 Wide Receiver David Beasley stepped up big for the Predators after his week 1 game in which he only caught 2 balls for 21 yards by cashing in on 7 catches for 108 yards and 2 fourth quarter touchdowns.

Beasley, who played his last 4 seasons of football with New Jersey primarily as a back up until last season, is signed for only this season at an affordable 2.5MM clip and is looking to prove that he can be an every down WR.  If he continues to play like he did tonight he will not have trouble finding that new contract.

Beasley said, "I'm just out there grinding on every play trying to help my team win. We tryin' to win this one for each other and for our coaches."

CHAMBERS STEPS IN TO LEAD 4TH QUARTER TOUCHDOWN DRIVE AFTER JOSE EXITS WITH INJURY!

Las Vegas, NV -- Joseph Kimbrell's sack on Vegas QB Trevor Jose resulted in a broken pinkie finger on the QB's throwing hand, knocking him out of the game at the end of the 3rd quarter of a closely contested game in Lincoln, NB this weekend and while Jose says he is hopeful he will play this week, 29 year old career backup quarterback Harry Chambers says he'll be ready after he stepped in to the game in the fourth quarter going 6/8 for 92 yards setting up the team for a goal line touchdown run by William Swift.

Chambers spent season 1 and 2 in Pearl Harbor where he threw a combined 7 passes for 133 years and 1 TD before signing with Las Vegas in S3.  He went 21/23 for 291 yards 1 TD and 1 INT that year in relief and back up work and did not see any action in Season 4.  Now he may be called on to play a game for the prestigious Scorpions franchise if Jose can't go due to the broken finger.

Vegas fans are clearly hoping Trevor Jose is cleared to play this week, even if not at 100% as the Scorpions host a hot-handed Tombstone Outlaws club looking to make a statement in week 3.

BREWSTER FIGHTS THROUGH PAIN TO INSURE STARTING SPOT IS HIS.

Lincoln, NB -- William Brewster refused to let bruised ribs cost him a start after securing the job from former starter Steven Crawford in the preseason, Brewster performed well in the gutsy performance despite being sacked 6 times.

After the game Brewster said he had no "new" pain after taking the abuse and big hits from the Scorpions defense, Brewster said he would be fine to start again in Week 3 when the Pride travels to Long Beach to face off against Crawford's new team.

In an interesting match up, Lincoln's offensive line has allowed 6 sacks in each of its first two games while Long Beach has only registered 5 sacks combined in two games.  Will Brewster's line step up and protect their quarterback or will the Mermen break through and wreck havoc on the man who replaced their new quarterback?

Crawford vs. Brewster is one of the most excited storylines heading into week 3, fans from Lincoln are said to be purchasing large quantities of tickets to see the game in person, which could effect Long Beach's homefield advantage.

DORIAL GREEN-BECKHAM (OKLAHOMA) SAYS HE IS A CHANGED "MAN"

One of the most highly regarded football recruits of the class of 2012, Dorial Green-Beckham was listed as the number one overall prospect in the nation coming out of high school. The rangy 6'6 wide out committed to the University of Missouri and played as a true freshman but was arrested and suspended due to drug possession.  DGB missed 2 games that season and returned to the team to finish the last half of his season with some nice numbers.

In his sophmore season DGB had 59 catches and 12 touchdowns including 6 catches for 144 yards and 2 TDs against Auburn in the SEC championship game but last season Green-Beckham was dismissed from the team and transferred to Oklahoma. He was forced to sit out the entire season due to transfer rules but is now playing for the Sooners, DGB has a long path to travel this season to prove to the HIFL and other professional leagues that he is as talented as he was thought to be and also that he can be trusted on and off the field.  The potential and raw talent of a first round pick is there, but his off-field issues and questions about his commitment to the game have haunted him and could hurt his draft stock, especially when talented WR's like the Pitts brothers from nearby University of Texas are considered locks to enter the draft after the College football season wraps up.

Green-Beckham had 9 Catches for 162 yards and 2 Touchdowns in Oklahoma's season opener against Division II opponent Central Oklahoma.

BACK UP RB MAKES FANS WONDER IF HE IS THE "MISSING LINK" DURING SLOBBER-KNOCKER IN MISSOURI!

Mobile, AL -- The Missouri Bruins turned heads today in a game where they gave the defending HIFL Champions all they could handle, dominating time of possession and avoiding turnovers against a defense that prides itself on takeaways. The Bruins prevented the Nighthawks from having a 100 yard receiver, continuing to bottle up and frustrated Burton Tibbetts who was held to a season low in both catches and yardage.  The Bruins also kept Jose Mackey relatively contained by only surrendering 1 touchdown to the superstar, but an unlikely hero in this game stepped up in the fourth quarter...

Former first round pick Dale Link, the 32 year old who rushed for 1600 yards in his last season as a starter for the Nighthawks (Season 3), fielded a punt near midfield and took it to the house on a dazzling return showed the 11 year veteran still has enough gas in the tank to be lethal from anywhere on the field.

Link immediately became a hot topic in trade talks with fans from all over the league, including Missouri calling for their teams to make a move to bring in a Running back who could be a game changer.

GOING GOING GON: GONZALES REFUSES TO TAKE FIELD VS. NIGHTHAWKS, REQUESTS "SIGN AND RELEASE" OR IMMEDIATE TRADE!

Jefferson City, MO --- It would appear Philip Gonzales has played his last game in Missouri as the former starting running back has not taken well to his reduction in carries, losing the title of "starter" to backup Roger Freedman.

Gonzales refused to enter the game when called upon by head coach Jimmy Eubanks which lead to an argument before Gonzales threw down his helmet and left the field for the locker room.  Gonzales later spoke through his agent Amber Molina by releasing a statement that read:

"I have officially requested a renegotiation of my contract to a figure that would allow the Bruins organization to release me with minimal consequence while allowing me the freedom to sign with a team who can make better use of my abilities.  The team declined my offer so I am now officially requesting a trade or release, as I have played my last game with this team."

Gonzales has been a part of a failed run game in Missouri, but many believe that in a better system he could serve as a strong change of pace back for a contender.  Gonzales' agent Amber Molina says that Gonzales would accept a lesser role on a team vying for a championship.

SMOAK OFF TO HOTTEST START OF CAREER WITH 115.4 PASSER RATING!

Tombstone, AZ -- While Curt Robles has dominated headlines with his MVP caliber start to the season, Caleb Smoak is off to the best start of his career averaging 291.7 yards per game while throwing 9 touchdowns and 1 interception.  The offensive line has only allowed him to be sacked on average of once per game and the QB has his team firing on all cylinders.

Smoak threw his first interception of the season at his own 20 yard line against Vegas this week in the second quarter of the showdown in the desert but recovered nicely to reach the 300 yard plateau for the second week in a row.

If Smoak continues to perform and Robles can keep up his all around dominance the Outlaws are looking like a playoff team.

JONATHAN JOHNSON MAKING BIG PLAYS IN CONTRACT YEAR!

Las Vegas, NV -- Scorpions WR Jonathan Johnson's 136 yards and 2 touchdowns on 6 catches added to a great start to the season that has the 29 year old WR looking like a top option if he gets to the free agent market later in the season. After 3 games "Jon-John" has 14 catches for 377 yards and 4 touchdowns.

When asked about his future Johnson said: "Man, we have 13 weeks left in this season and I'm a Scorpion, what happens beyond that isn't in my hands, but I've been in Vegas ever since I came into the HIFL, so a new city could be interesting..."

Johnson has never been seen as a big "team player" and has been subject to rumors in relation to gambling in Vegas, but his talent has always trumped his off-field issues.

ROYAL FLUSH?: ROYAL STINKS UP ST. PAUL WITH 5 TURNOVER GAME!

Washington, DC --- 4 Interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and 1 lost fumble those are the stand out numbers for Cobras interim starter Michael Royal. The Oregon State product looked lost against the #1 Defense in the HIFL while he scrambled for 36 yards and threw for a mere 192 yards in route to a 44.9 passer rating.

With Royal in peril the run game stalled even as the Cobras put up more points than any other team this season against the mighty Lynx defense.  After the game Royal took full responsibility for the horrific game saying:

"I have to protect the football better.  It's my job to play well while Christian is out, and right now I am not doing that.  I forced some throws and I took a big hit when I ran, but at the end of the day it is my job to get the ball to our players and not the other teams."

Royal went on to give credit to the St. Paul defense calling them "scary good.''

DC Fans questioned whether or not the Cobras should look elsewhere for quarterback until Sullivan is ready to return, but insiders indicate that GM Jon will hold fast with his Beaver brethren.

DT MAPLE IN HOT WATER AFTER REFUSING AUTOGRAPHS FOR YOUNG FANS, CONFRONTATION WITH PARENTS!

St. Paul, MN -- Lynx Defensive Tackle Joseph Maple has come under fire from local fans after refusing to sign autographs for a group of young fans who approached the 6'2 287 lbs veteran while he was shopping at the Mall of America. Maple was said to be rude to the fans, ignoring them until their parents chimed in to state their opinion on the matter. One fan said:

"So yeah, I was in the store with my kids yeah, and they take off runnin over to this big guy screaming "mr. maple mr. maple" but the guy just went on like they weren't their yeah?  I asked him what his problem was and he told me to take my kids and get the fuck out of his face yeah... so I was like... WHOA, easy their buddy, and he told me he wasn't my buddy and to leave him alone...
Class act that guy, yeah... right."

Fans are unhappy with the incident and have sent several angry tweets to the official Lynx twitter page.

HERZOG AND BLOCK FORMING DYNAMIC DUO IN NEW LOOK MERMEN OFFENSE!

Long Beach, CA --- Many believed at the start of the season that their would not be enough footballs to go around for talented pass catchers Joseph Herzog and Armand Block but after some tweaking by the coaching staff, Block and Herzog both showed their ability to make big plays as Herzog brought down 6 passes for 79 yards and Block reeled in 7 catches for 138 yards. Steven Crawford has apparently found great chemistry with both hybrid tight ends along with Luigi Lewis and Lynwood Hunter who also have been impressive during this season.

Offensive Coordinator Harry Bryce commented about the new look offense saying:

"We have a lot of talent here and finding a way to get the ball to each of these guys and still getting the chemistry and flow of the game to be where we want it is tricky, but with a QB like Steven at the helm I think we have the ability to showcase all our talent."

The Mermen, who are in a semi-rebuild, have played well at times but also showed that they can be picked a part.  Most fans have been pleased with the teams performance so far, but others feel that the team is still trying to find its identity.

MARCHAND, PAGE, AND SOUZA ALL FIND PAY DIRT IN ROAD TRIP TO LONG BEACH!.

Lincoln, NB -- Coming into the week Lincoln had failed to score a rushing touchdown, but after a strong performance against an under performing Mermen run defense the team came away with 3 scores on the ground.

The Lincoln Pride out rushed the Long Beach Mermen this week 140 - 120 yards, and they did it with a big dose of George Page (49 yards on 12 carries) and Christopher Marchand (37 yards on 10 carries) and with one big play from fullback John Souza (52 yards) the team had all three backs rush for a touchdown. After the game Marchand said:

"It feels good to get off the goose egg, but we have a long ways to go. We have talent in our backfield with me being the tip of the spear.  The mor I touch the ball the more we'll put up points."

With a still unproven quarterback, the run game will be vital to helping the Pride get above .500 before the midpoint of the season.

FREE AGENT SIGNING MASON DEBUTS WITH 6 TACKLES, 2 PASS DEFENSES, AND INTERCEPTION FOR OAKLAND

Oakland, CA --- With Alfred Glass sidelined due to turf toe the Oakland Silverbacks hit the free agent wire and signed young Defensive Back Jason Mason.  Mason stepped into the starting line up as the #2 corner and played well collecting 6 tackles 2 pass deflections, and snagged a 3rd Quarter interception at the Predators' 22 yard line against Michael Hodge.

After the game, Coach Vic LeBlanc commented on Mason's debut performance...

"Jason played very well for us. He wasn't shutdown by any means and he gave up a costly play where he thought he had a safety covering over the top, but as far as coming in with no experience in my system and stepping up to the plate?  I thought he did a great job, he has a future in Black and Silver."

J-MARV RESIGNS FROM POST AS "ASSISTANT GM" CITING LOSS OF RESPECT FOR GM METRO!

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii -- In a shocking move, Predators' assistant GM Jerry "J-Marv" Marvin has resigned and left Pearl Harbor.
Marvin, a former pitcher for GM Metro in Montreal, told friends who then told ESPN that he was "appalled" with the lie that GM Metro told to his team in his introductory speech.  Marvin's friend who wished to remain anonymous also said that Marvin told him "Metro told them he was nervous around people and didn't like public speaking, but in the NBL he was brash, vocal, and loved talking to the players."

Marvin is said to be considering signing a Major League Baseball contract and will likely never be seen again in the HIFL.

BRIAN OWEN ARRESTED, RELEASED ON $1MM BAIL. TRIAL TO COME QUICKLY?

Orlando, FL -- Brian Owen, quarterback for the Orlando Stampede was officially charged after he was accused of threatening to rape and attempting to detain 3 female fans in a local Orlando nightclub last week. Owen was released after posting $1MM in bail.

This comes just days after the Orlando Stampede announced that Owen would be indefinitely suspended until the case is resolved.

GM Gravedigger may be called as a character witness for Owen in the coming weeks...

DRAGONS FORCE FUMBLE, INTERCEPT PASSES, AND BLOCK PUNT IN SOLID ALL-AROUND PERFORMANCE!

Newark, NJ -- The New Jersey Dragons have been a mild disappointment this season, playing well but losing two closely contested game, so a week 3 match up with the Orlando Stampede was seen by some as an early "critical" game for the team to win to stay in contention for a solid season.

The entire team knew that going in and responded well with a solid all around performance that featured two interceptions, a forced and recovered fumble, a block punt, and some clutch field goals in the Rain Soaked Orlando Bull Ring.

With solid performances from May, McReynolds, and the entire defense things look to be trending up for the Dragons as they plan a trip to DC to take on the Cobras.

NFL GENERAL MANAGERS PLEASED BY LACK OF HIFL SCOUTS AT EARLY COLLEGE GAMES!

While the NCAA college football season is well underway with players making early statements in their games, it appears only one football league is paying attention.

College coaches have made several mentions that the only scouts at their games so far this season have been NFL scouts, Coaches, and even a few General Managers, making a great impression on the potential draftable players who will be leaving the college ranks for the pros after this season.

One NFL scout said, "I'm glad the HIFL didn't send any scouts, makes it easier for us to convince these kids that the real pros play in the NFL... besides, their missing the chance to get real eyes on the game to get a good idea of who these kids are.  Makes my life easier."

With only 7 weeks remaining in the college football season, some potential pros have already decided to declare their intentions to go to the NFL draft instead of the HIFL draft.

NEW EVIDENCE SHOWS OWEN MAY HAVE BEEN DRUGGED???

Orlando, FL -- Brian Owen, quarterback for the Orlando Stampede was officially charged after he was accused of threatening to rape and attempting to detain 3 female fans in a local Orlando nightclub two weeks ago, but now new evidence has surfaced that may help clear the quarterback of any wrong doing!

TVCRW a local Orlando affiliate has reported that they have a source who believes they have proof that Owen was drugged on the night he was accused of threatening 3 female fans.  The source goes on to say the they believe the entire accusation could be part of a grand scheme designed to extort money for the quarterback and damage his reputation!

The Owen camp remained silent on the matter, and the accusers could not be reached at this time.

More on this story as it develops.

FORMER CAPTAIN GONZALES STARTS WITH FREEDMAN UNABLE TO PLAY!

Jefferson City, MO --- GM Gooch has to feel like he is on the bad end of a cruel joke as his Bruins team has faced nothing but trouble from it's backfield.  With Roger Freedman named full time starter last week and former captain Philip Gonzales being convinced to accept the role of #2 running back, Freedman's hyper extended knee prevented him from playing in the Bruins' home game against the Orlando Stampede.

Gonzales stepped in and played his best game of the season, but still only managed 25 rushing yards, he added two red zone touchdowns and 3 catches for 52 yards to the total to give him his first scores of the season and a decent showing for the 10 year vet looking to impress a contending team.

After the game Gonzales declined comment, but the team did say they expect Freedman to start next week while he is still listed as "probable" while his knee continues to heal.

BANANA-SPLIT! -- FULLBACK RODRIGUEZ MAKES FIRST CAREER CATCH COUNT!

Long Beach, CA --- 72 carries for 72 yards and no touchdowns, that is the career stat line for 31 year old Long Beach fullback James Rodriguez, but the little heard from or praised player was finally called upon for his first career reception after 8 long years, and the former Florida State Seminole made it count as he caught the ball, broke a tackle and rumbled for 20 yards and his first career touchdown of any variety!

After the game offensive coordinator Harry Bryce spoke about the play and Rodriguez saying:

"Well you know me, I used to play under coach Rudino, and he has this play he loves more than anything else... I decided to try it for the first time this season and let me tell you, Spider 2 Y Banana works!  James was the primary on the play and he was wide open!  Great throw from Crawford to hit him in the numbers and nice footwork by James to get away from the defense and take it to pay dirt... after the play I had to look across the field to Coach Rudino and give him a little shout out, I don't think he appreciated it then, but I think he will looking back on it."

"ROAD RUNNER" CURT ROBLES CONTINUES TO LEAVE DEFENSES IN HIS DESERT DUST!

Tombstone, AZ -- By now you all know former no. 1 overall pick Curt Robles is elite, but this week at home against a visiting Long Beach Mermen team, Robles took his game to yet another level.

Robles rumbled for 119 yards on the ground, which would have been 121 had Richard Hunt not made a diving shoe string tackle to save a touchdown as the first half expired, stopping Robles on the two yard line.  He also caught 6 passes for an even 100 yards and a score, and added a 102 yard kick off return to start the second half to his MVP resume for his second touchdown of the game.

After the game Robles deflected praise crediting his coaches and offensive line for all their hard work, but no matter how you cut it, Curt Robles is the heart and soul of the Tombstone Outlaws, if teams can not figure a way to stop him Tombstone could be headed to the Impact Bowl.

SMOOTH OPERATOR: "SURGEON" CARVES UP COBRAS DEFENSE!

Newark, NJ -- GM Kirk told the media that his star running back John "The Surgeon" Spurgeon was going to break out soon, and he hoped it would be against the #1 run defense in football, and that is just what happened!

Spurgeon rushed 26 times for 157 yards and his first two touchdowns of the season along with 4 more catches for 28 yards, but no play was bigger for the Dragons than his 4th quarter 76 yard touchdown run that sucked the air right out of the Chocolate Factory. The score came with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game and gave the Dragons some much needed momentum as they fought back from a 7-17 deficit.

After the game one DC fan said of Spurgeon...

"That guy is amazing, his cuts are surgical, no wonder they call him the Surgeon, he puts on a clinic man!"

Spurgeon is the reigning offensive player of the year and won the rookie of the year award the season before. Having made the pro bowl in both his first two seasons, fans in New Jersey expect nothing less than dominance from the former 11th overall pick out of Oklahoma State and he is currently on pace to end the season with 1620 yards and 8 touchdowns.

SASSER PUTS THE "S" IN SPECIAL TEAMS WITH ANOTHER  FIELD GOAL FROM BEYOND 60 YARDS!

Washington, DC --- The DC Cobras' have already seen their windy stadium play to their advantage with a record setting 65 yard field goal by Kicker Omer Sasser in week 1, but this week Sasser proved it was not a fluke as he bombed another ball through the uprights, this time from 64 yards.

With the wind once again at his back The "Sass" man drilled the football and immediately dropped to one knee and pumped his fists into the air knowing it was going to be good.  Others were more skeptical as the ball seemed very close to falling short, but after the officials signaled "it's good" the stadium erupted!

After the game head coach Shaun Saint called Sasser "the most powerful kicker in football today" and credited his kicker for converting 100% of his kicks so far this season.

So far this year Sasser has got 1/1 from 20-29 yards, 3-3 from 30-39, 1/1 from 40-49, and 2/2 from beyond 50 (65,64). Before this season, Sasser's career long was 54 yards and that was the only successful conversion from beyond 50 in his 3 years as the starter in DC.

JERRY HARRIS' TD-LESS STREAK HITS 3 GAMES, WR'S FRUSTRATED.

Oakland, CA --- Oakland Silverbacks QB Jerry Harris has struggled to find the end zone this season, watching his touchdown-less streak hit 3 games after failing to connect on a scoring play against the Lincoln Pride. Luckily for Oakland Harris did manage to find the end zone on a QB draw giving him his second rushing touchdown of the season, equal to his passing TD's and 1 less than his season interception totals.

One person not amused by these numbers is rookie WR George Farrow. The #10 overall pick in the draft said after the game when asked about Harris' slow draw into the end zone:

"Man, laugh it up, but I get paid to catch touchdowns, Jay get paid to throw em, we will win more games with him chuckin' that ball to the hands, not trying to do it himself, man."

Farrow has 14 catches on 18 targets for 182 yards so far in his rookie season.

BREWSTER THROWS "PERFECT GAME" WITH 158.3 PASSER RATING!!

Lincoln, NB -- Crawford who?  William Brewster finally showed off the potential that GM Corbin saw in him when he decided to trade franchise QB Steven Crawford away and anoint Brewster the QB of the future.

Brewster went 17/20 for 266 yards and 3 Touchdowns without tossing an interception against the Oakland Silverbacks usually dominant defense!
"Brew" as the coaches now called him was sharp throughout the game making big plays with two TD strikes to Clint Dickey and one to Hector Houser.

After the game, Brewer spoke with ESPN saying:

"Gotta give the credit to my team mates man, they made play after play and bailed me out of some ugly throws. The O-line was solid for me and that made things much more comfortable for me."

SEASON 5, WEEK 4... A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN PREDATORS INFAMY...

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii -- In a shocking move, Predators'  GM Metro has resigned and left Pearl Harbor.
Metro cited "Personal reasons" for his sudden departure and refuted claims that Jerry "J-Marv" Marvin's resignation was the reason for the sudden change.

Fans in Pearl Harbor say that this move is the biggest surprise attack in the last 60+ years, the team is confused and in disarray, but the job is sure to fill quickly with hungry GM's like GM Franchise and GM Phoenix waiting in the wings.

The Predators hope to fill the vacancy quickly.

PICK SIX IN OT GIVES SCORPIONS THRILLING ROAD WIN AGAINST PREDATORS!

Las Vegas, NV -- The plane ride home from Pearl Harbor was much more joyous after the team fought back from a 4th quarter deficit to send the game to overtime, but that is where the real excitement came...

On the FIRST play of overtime Jose Pruitt threw to running back Alphonso Montes, Montes was leveled by Gordon Goulet, sending the ball into the air where Wesley Garrett of the Scorpions picked the ball off and ran 16 yards to the house for the game winning score!

After the game Vegas coaches praised Goulet and Garrett for their "heads up" play saying the defenders played with all their hearts and showed that Vegas is not in as much trouble as some fans may believe.
