BREAKING NEWS: WR FRANCISCO ZAMBRANO PRONOUNCED DEAD AT AGE 33!

SAN ANTONIO --- Just days after the HIFL mourned the loss of Joel Fleming, tragedy has again struck this time in relation to retired and recently un-retired Wide Receiver Francisco Zambrano who was killed at a gas station just outside of San Antonio, Texas.

Zambrano, 33, was run over by a belligerent local man who took offence to Zambrano "welcoming" him to the "Great State of San Antonio" said one witness.

Zambrano spent 5 seasons of his career as a wide receiver along side Burton Tibbetts and Elias Winstead winning three championships with the Alabama Nighthawks before signing in Season 6 with the Lincoln Pride where his famous PR Flub "Welcome to the Great State of Lincoln" went viral.

Zambrano spent two years starting for the Missouri/Kansas City, reaching the 1000-yard mark for the first and only time in Season 7 with the Bruins before finishing his career with the Seattle Rhinos last year and announcing his retirement shortly after the Impact Bowl.

The HIFL universe will mourn the loss of the 9 year veteran for years to come, and the San Antonio Knights surely will feel terrible having just signed him out of retirement on a 1 year $750K contract.

BREAKING NEWS: VANESSA WATERS NAMED REP FOR OWNERS, KIDWELL VOTED IN TO REPLACE RETIRING PLAYER ASSOCIATION CHAIR, ELIAS WINSTEAD!

CHARLOTTE --- With the Collective Bargaining Agreement set to expire at the end of season 10, the league could see drastic changes as the players association and ownership committee gained new voices with the election of Michigan Monsters' owner Vanessa Waters and former Silverbacks legend turned Rapid City wide receiver Alberto Kidwell.

Kidwell becomes the first active player to represent the players association replacing the popular yet retiring Elias Winstead, who took over the job after retiring in season 6.

Vanessa Waters, the first female chair of the Owners Committee replaces long-time chair Al Crowley who resigned in order to focus more on his team and his team alone in the wake of a terrible two-year span for the franchise.

The duo will now work with Commissioner Wilkinson to begin laying the groundwork for the next CBA which could effect everything from rookie wages to international player integration and more.

BREAKING NEWS: KIM JONG UN'S REVENGE! LATEST NORTH KOREAN MISSILE TEST USES EMP TO KILL ALL COMMUNICATIONS TO VACATION ISLE!

GUAM --- In a major show of defiance to the international community, North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the exclusive and luxurious "Vacation Isle" which is a man-made pleasure-island near Ant Atoll in the Senyavin Islands.  The missile launch allowed the use of an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) which destroyed all electronics on the island essentially cutting off everyone on the island from any communications.  The United States and Federated States of Micronesia have joined forces to deploy relief vessels to the area to deliver food and also hopefully extract the survivors from the island as soon as possible.

The launch is the second to fly over Japan in less than a month, and the first since North Korea's seventeenth nuclear test and new United Nations sanctions on the country.

North Korean state media said in a press release after the launch and subsequent black-out "This launch and use of our EMP technology was two-fold, consider it both a capability display as well as revenge on the corrupt football league that spurned us in our quest for hosting the Impact Bowl.  Our dear-leader wishes death upon all that reside on Vacation-Isle and hope that it cripples the High Impact Football League."

The Federated States of Micronesia and Washington will be seeking to up that pressure at the United Nations Friday, with the two governments calling a snap meeting of the Security Council for Friday afternoon, ahead of the General Assembly next week.

VACATION ISLE SIEGE - THE AFTERMATH

GUAM --- The well documented attack on Vacation Isle has come to a close thanks to a paramilitary rescue mission launched by a combination of retired US Army Special Forces and Private Military Contractors.  Jack Bowser and a joint task force made up of TTTS and Raytheon contractors inserted into Vacation Isle just before sunrise and began moving towards the hotel that had been converted into a make shift prison camp.

After a day-long gun fight raged as North Korean military attempted to force the HIFL hostages onto their slave ships as they retreated, Bowser and the task force managed to recover most of the coaches and loaded them onto military cargo and transport planes to exfil them from the battlefield quickly.

Plane after plane touched down and departed in an effort the extract as many hostages as possible, but despite their efforts there were still a handful of Coaches who had already been loaded onto the slave ships and are somewhere in the ocean enroute back to North Korea.

Initial reports indicate that Benson Stark, Jose Mackey, Travis Knight, and Doctor Swear Wurd have all been confirmed to be in the custody of the North Korean Military, while other reports indicate that others are on board as well.  New Jersey owner Pang Tong has reached out to Chinese President Xi to negotiate for the release and safe return of the New Jersey staff but it is unknown at this time if that effort will be successful.

Tulsa Defensive Coordinator Roman Beast was reported by one recovered witness as volunteering himself to go onto the ship in order to spare some of his fellow hostages, while Recently hired Alabama offensive Coordinator Rocky Singleton formerly of the Naval Academy was said to have been "arrested" by the Korean Military after he attempted to start an uprising in one of the hotel containment areas.

The only known casualty to this point is Long Beach Assistant Coach Dean Norris, who was said to have attempted to escape early in the crisis.

Portland head coach Ron Jackson was said to have been tortured to "send a message" early on, but his condition is yet to be known either.

With over seventy five coaches and their wives being on the island, officials say that if not for the hasty arrival of Bowser and his task force things could have been SIGNIFICANTLY worse.  One major factor in the ability to get the task force in place quickly was a generous $5MM donation from the Milwaukee Barons, a move that is said to have resonated throughout the league and world as the Barons are currently the toast of Washington DC. President David Palmer Jr is expected to invite the Barons owner to the White House to formally thank him and Jack Bowser for their courageous efforts.

More information is expected to be released as it is reported.

HALL OF FAME DOUBLES IN SIZE AS JOSE, GINOBILI, AND BLOCK EARN GOLDEN JACKETS

CANTON, OH --- Larry Wright, Jose Mackey, and William Marquez gained three new Hall-mates in the HIFL's Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend in Tight End Armand Block and a pair of quarterbacks - Trevor Jose and Anderson Ginobili.

As the three men prepare for their inductions at the "Hall of Fame" game to kick off the HIFL pre-season many wonder when Hall of Famers such as Mackey, Marquez, Block, and Ginobili will see their jersey numbers retired by their clubs.

While Mackey has already seen his #31 retired in Alabama it is expected that he along with Ginobili and Block will have their numbers honored by the Long Beach Mermen, the team all three men represent primarily in the hall.

Meanwhile Trevor Jose saw his number retired at the end of the season by the Dragons, yet Marquez, the only defensive player in the hall of fame to date is still waiting to see the Stampede of Orlando retire his number. Currently the only Number in Orlando that has been retired is that of recently deceased Joel Fleming.

STATE OF THE LEAGUE ADDRESS SEES COMMISSIONER OUTLINE MANY TOPICS

NEW YORK, NY --- Speaking from the league's new headquarters in New York City, HIFL Commissioner Talon Wilkinson addressed the media on a number of topics relating to the league and its future during his annual state of the league address.

The number one issue during discussions was an update on the political help being obtained by the league office to help and recover the hostages remaining missing from the Vacation Isle Siege that saw several HIFL Coaches kidnapped by the North Korean government.

When asked about recover efforts Wilkinson said: "The league is working closely with the United States government to  find a peaceful resolution to the situation at hand.  We have had no contact with the North Korean government but we are confident that congress will find a way to help return Coach Singleton and Coach Beast.  We will do whatever it takes to return our coaches safely to their families."

Later during the address, Wilkinson touched on the new schedule format which features the debut of two pre-set bye weeks for all teams, extending the season to an 18 week format without adding more games to the teams schedules, saying:

"The introduction of the bye weeks was done for two reasons.  The league has always featured a bye week between the final game of the regular season and the start of the playoffs, but with the expansion of the playoff field and adding first-round bye weeks for the division winning teams we decided to do away with the transitional week bye, we did not feel like a two-week break was good for teams to stay sharp and I personally felt that giving everyone in the league a break during the regular season would better suit everyone, adding the second bye week was done as an attempt to help curb the recent rise in injuries, giving teams time to recover during the season without sacrificing valuable practice time, this will also allow players to spend time with family during the season while giving the general managers a chance to focus on their in-season scouting."

Speaking more on scouting after what is being called the most talented draft class in HIFL history, Wilkinson shifted focus to the newly introduced "College Showcase" which will take place during the leagues' week 7 bye week.

"The College Showcase will act as a miniature draft combine for the league to get an extra look at the potential draft prospects who are leaning towards coming out of the draft. This will offer an opportunity to make changes to the scouting combine to give teams a greater view of the talents in the draft.  All in all, we see the College Showcase as an event the league will pay for and allow all 24 franchises the opportunity to attend free of charge."

Later in the address Wilkinson also referenced the newly announced "All Star Week" during the Week 13 Bye Week saying:

"In week 13 we will feature the first annual HIFL All Star Week.  The All Star Week will not feature the Pro Bowl, which will remain in the off-season, but it will instead be a GM driven event allowing one general manager from each conference the opportunity to assemble a team of athletes who will compete in a series of fun athletically challenging events with a cash prize for the winners.  This will range from skills competitions, relay races, obstacle courses,  to maybe even dodge ball or tug of war... all events to give players a chance to unwind, compete, have fun, and put some extra cash in their pockets while giving fans a new experience and new access to their favorite players."

The last bit of news covered in the state of the league address was focused on the final game of the post-season, The Impact Bowl.
it was announced that the 10th anniversary of the Impact Bowl would be contested in one of the newest emerging markets, New Orleans.

"New Orleans has a history of great football fandom, from the SEC Championship to several Super Bowls through out the years, we look forward to seeing the Impact Bowl come to The Big Easy..  New Orleans has worked hard over the last few years to convince a franchise to relocate to the area, and I am sure the city will be on its best behavior with so many league and team executives in the city this year for All Star Week and Impact Bowl 10."

The address ended with the unveiling of this years Impact Bowl logo, playing heavily off of the host cities Mardi Gras theme and tradition.

MUSIC CITY CURSE CONTINUES AS GM REBEL RESIGNS BEFORE START OF SEASON!

NASHVILLE, TN --- For the third time in the past year the Music City Kings are without a General Manager after GM Johnny Rebel and the franchise mutually agreed to part ways before the start of the preseason.

The resignation is nothing new for the franchise which has been in disarray since the departure of GM Justin who left for the Tombstone Outlaws at the tail end of Season 8 after GM Mike Powers was fired for bribing a federal investigator to taint samples from several New Jersey Dragons' drug tests.  After GM Justin's exit the team turned to a returning GM Rex Evans who quickly reshaped the team into a dangerous contender in the off-season before vanishing prior to the start of training camp, from there the team hired Vincent Foxworth as an interim GM until week 4 of Season 9 where the team decided to pursue GM Rebel who had been fired after an 0-3 start for the Atlanta Warriors.

GM Rebel, who started in season 5 with the Oakland Silverbacks before re-signing prior to the start of the season, has officially been linked to three franchises with his longest tenure coming with the Atlanta Warriors who he took to the playoffs as an Expansion team after finishing with a 10-6 record and 2nd place in the South Eastern division.  Rebel would briefly exit from Atlanta in Season 7 but quickly had a change of heart, finishing the season 6-5 before returning for season 8 and going 6-10.

Through his entire HIFL career, GM Rebel walks away with a career 27-32 record, 1 winning season, and one playoff appearance.

REPORT: SALARY RETENTION REMAINS AS FINAL MAJOR HOLD UP IN DECIDING ON BARKLEY TRADE!

NASHVILLE --- With offers from over half a dozen teams coming in over the weekend it is believed that the Music City Kings have narrowed their options down to five offers.  While each offer includes a first round pick, at least one offer includes 2 firsts, while two others offer 2nd round choices as well, but the major sticking point currently comes with the organization's willingness to continue to pay outgoing players' salaries.  The team is already on the hook for portions of both Eddie Stands and Erik Pitts' contracts this season and while newly appointed GM Bill Crowder has been given the green light to jettison several expiring or high-priced salaries in an effort to completely reshape the franchise but with the recent struggles of the franchise it is uncertain if Owner Aaron King can afford to spend dead money.  The team sits well below the salary cap and it is believed to be in-part due to lower revenues for the club over the last two years.

The team is said to want at least one first round pick, but more important than that, the team is seeking one or more highly touted prospects for their currently baron developmental team to help accelerate their rebuild.  Erik Pitts helped bring in linebacker prospect Leland Creamer, but the team is said to be looking at corner, offensive tackle, linebacker, and/or defensive end prospects in any deal for Shane Barkley.

Barkley, who turned 23 before the start of training camp was the #3 overall pick in the S7 draft and has been selected to the pro bowl in each of the last two seasons after tallying 7 INTs in each of the last two years and averaging 13 pass break ups and 1 DTD to go with an average for 45 tackles in each season.

VEGAS GOES ALL IN WITH TWO FIRSTS AND TOP PROSPECT TO LAND 2X PRO BOWLER BARKLEY

LAS VEGAS --- The arms race for the South Western Division crown just got a little more interesting as the Las Vegas Scorpions pushed back against the reigning Champion San Antonio Knights who made many moves in the off-season to reshape their team with the hopes of getting a better grasp on their second division title.

Vegas bolstered their already talented receiver corps adding Tight End Joseph Ruiz to add depth to the tight end position while also adding the league's top available corner, Shane Barkley.

Barkley, who is set to hit free agency in the off-season, tweeted out his thanks to the Kings organization and it's fans saying:

"Thank you to the coaches, ownership, and all the fans for making my time in Music City great.  Thanks to Coach Crowder for giving me the opportunity to compete for a title this year, nothing but respect! It's time to go ALL IN in Vegas baby!"

Barkley's agent Drew Leventhal, who also represents upcoming free agent Daniel Maxley, was none-committal in a conference call when asked whether or not he would entertain re-signing with the club prior to testing the open market, barring the franchise tag, but with Las Vegas already having a large contract committed to Joseph Mullins, cap-experts wonder if GM Metro can afford to keep both Mullins and Barkley beyond this season, only time will tell.

BREAKING NEWS: INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND NEWLY FORMED ALLIANCE OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL AND RE-BOOTED XFL, SPURRING PARTNERSHIP WITH HIFL!

LONDON --- The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) chairman Darwin Churchill addressed the international media pool today after a closed door meeting with Vince McMahon of the XFL and Charlie Ebersol of the Alliance of American Football League (AAF)  to announce a partnership and endorsement for both leagues.

"It is with great pride that the IFAF announces its decision to work hand in hand with the AAF and XFL as we look to further elevate the game of "football" in America and across the globe."

Churchill went on to explain that despite earlier notions that the IFAF could become a fast track to the HIFL for international players, the league's use of so called "invasive training camps" in strategic locations has made in "virtually impossible to work in a civilized manor with that other league."

The AAF and XFL could also become options for several HIFL players currently playing in the United States, a factor that could play into several major aspects of the league going forward from salary costs and demands, to the availability of talented undrafted free agents. Some say it could also lead to a competitive increase in the league's salary cap in the off-season to better help the league as a whole to retain it's brightest and most recognizable stars.

The AAF and XFL are believed to each be planning on an 8-team format, which could mean 640 new jobs for football players within the confines of the United States.

IFAF SWEDISH SUPERSTAR ELIAS IBRAHIMOVIC ANNOUNCES START OF RECRUITING TOUR!

STOCKHOLM --- Fans of the Swedish National team lined the streets of the countries capital, most holding signs and banners either thanking the countries superstar quarterback/wide receiver Elias Ibrahimovic, or begging him to stay on the International circuit with the Kingdom's IFAF national team.

Ibrahimovic has lead a storied career so far, having passed for over 10,000 yards, rushing for 2,000 yards, and compiling 3,500 receiving yards over the past 4 years as the starting quarterback for a Swedish team that also deployed the versatile athlete out of the backfield and slot positions at various times to take advantage of their depth at quarterback.

The brash and colorful personality of Ibrahimovic helped to raise the profile of not only the Swedish men's team, but also for the IFAF as a whole, but now it is on to bigger and better things for the 26 year old superstar.

Ibrahimovic is set to arrive in the United States over the weekend, and is expected to begin meeting with leadership from any team interested in pursuing his talents.

AFTER INTEREST BUILDS AROUND THE HIFL, "SWEDISH DESTROYER" IBRAHIMOVIC ANNOUNCES GUIDELINES FOR MEETINGS

STOCKHOLM --- Set to arrive in the United States later this weekend, Swedish superstar Elias Ibrahimovic has released a "rider" of sorts or a list of demands for any team that wishes to meet with the versatile athlete.  The list is comprised of several requirements and comforts that are needed in order to garner the attention and time of the mutli-faceted star who some are already calling a "generational talent."

After probing around the league, ESPN has obtained a copy of the "visit rider" which has been sent to teams requesting information in order to meet with Ibrahimovic.

Quote
One 6-pack of Sunkist Soda
Twenty-four 500 mL bottles of non-carbonated spring water. Must be Evian or Fiji
2 Spicy Crunch Dorito Tacos from Taco Bell
Now & Laters (assorted flavors)
Spicy Fried Chicken from the best reviewed location in the immediate area
100 mild or lemon pepper wings
Private toilet (with new toilet seat)
Police escort
$300 in single dollar bills
15 passenger van equipped with stripper pole for airport transfer

While some items on the list have invited criticism and/or humor from fans and internet trolls alike, it is clear that a visit from Ibrahimovic will include his immediate entourage.  The overall cost to satisfy the rider requirements is estimated at roughly $500K

BREAKING NEWS: CLEVELAND ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF GM ELI, PROMISES TO CONTINUE TO CONTEND!

CLEVELAND --- The Mustangs of Cleveland are no longer a team without an active General Manager as the team announced today that GM Eli would be taking over the reigns of the team effective immediately.

"We watched closely at the GM Combine, and while some other options impressed us, no candidate brought both a promising potential AND a natural love for Cleveland sports like GM Eli"  Team owner Ace Profits said to the media during the team's introductory press conference.

"GM Eli is a great guy, a great guy." Profits continued. "We are confident that with him at the helm our team will continue to thrive.  We are the class of the Eastern Conference, and with his guidance, we're going to have a beautiful, beautiful season and a very bright, the brightest in the league, even."

GM Eli is expected to take over immediately and will have his hands full as the fast-starting Mustangs attempt to continue their winning ways while their franchise QB, Caleb Smoak continues to rehab from an injury suffered earlier in the season.

BREAKING NEWS: KINGS HIRE GM BENNETT AS MR. KING VOWS TO KEEP TEAM IN NASHVILLE!

NASHVILLE --- Just hours after the announcement of GM Eli's signing with the Cleveland Mustangs, another GM position was filled as Aaron King, owner of the Music City Kings, announced that GM Bennett had been signed to a four-year deal.

Fans in the Music City region have reacted positively to the signing and with rumors of GM Bennett turning down a longer term offer from the struggling Tombstone Outlaws, it appears that the newest face in the HIFL is willing to bet on himself to turn around a constantly promising but often underachieving Kings team which has seen its fair share of turnover since its inception in the league losing GM Justin to Tombstone, then seeing GM Rex Evans going AWOL, and finally parting ways with GM Rebel after the journeyman GM elected to retire from front offices.

"We expect this hire to take us back to Graceland... we've been caught in a trap, but with the signing of GM Bennett, I believe we can finally walk out and show this league we are much more than a bunch of hound dogs in the Heart Break Hotel."  Mr. King said during his press conference.

Fans are looking forward to seeing GM Bennett get right to work, but expectations are tempered for the remainder of this season.

BREAKING NEWS: COMMISSIONER WILKINSON APPROVES FEMALE RUNNING BACK MARIA CREWS TO ATTEND COLLEGE SHOWCASE WEEK!

NEW ORLEANS --- As fans, scouts, General Managers, coaches and college players all make their way to New Orleans for this weeks' HIFL/NCAA co-branded College Showcase one player who has dreams of becoming a HIFL player took one step closer to becoming a barrier shattering reality.  After weeks of internal deliberations between the league office and the players union, Commissioner Talon Wilkinson announced that the league would extend an invitation to the showcase week to Maria Crews, a 21 year old senior at the University of Central Florida who made headlines earlier in the year by becoming the first female to play running back for a division 1 school.

Crews starred on the track and field team for UCF during her previous three years at the university, but decided to make a change in the off-season when she tried out for the football team.  Despite many objections internally and externally, the 5'7, 150 pound Crews made the team and has found major success averaging 5 yards per carry while carrying the ball 25 times per contest.

Crews says her 10 TDs and 989 yards to this point in the college season are all proof that Pro Football shouldn't have to be "a man's world."  While questions on how her frame will hold up to the rigors of the HIFL or even the XFL or AAF each of which have shown great interest in Crews who is sure to attract tons of media attention if she does indeed make it into professional football.

BREAKING NEWS: SUPER AGENT MIKE "MONEY" MAKER LIVID AFTER GM GOOCH BYPASSES HIM IN NEGOTIATIONS!

ST PAUL --- GM Buckson Gooch of the St. Paul Lynx has power-agent Mike "Money" Maker up in arms after news broke today that GM Gooch and star running back Adrian McCaffery had come to terms on a new three-year pact without consulting Maker, who represents McCaffery along with Lynx starting QB John Carr and Defensive End David Wilson.

Maker is said to be furious about the move, as agents are hired to handle any and all negotiations for players as per their contracts with the players through the Players association.  Maker is said to be speaking with Player Association President Alberto Kidwell, who happens to also play for the Lynx, making things quite interesting going forward.

BREAKING NEWS: ATL OWNER ON ADMIN LEAVE AFTER HOSPITALIZING GM LUCAS!

NEW ORLEANS --- HIFL General Managers used the 2019 Rookie Showcase week to declare the league's unofficial Trade Season to be underway as Cleveland, DC, Oakland, Alabama, St. Louis, Tombstone, St. Paul, and surprisingly enough Atlanta all made big moves to shake things up for their respective organizations.

Atlanta, which was believed to be on strict orders NOT to make any trades this season, made two big moves for the future when GM Lucas signed off on deals sending Mr. "Sacklanta" Christopher Chandler to Oakland and then sending fellow face of the franchise Stephen Leake to St. Paul.  Fans across the nation chimed in on the deals saying things like:

"I guess Winning Starts Next Year?"

"So does Oakland get the Welcome to SACKLANTA billboard that is outside my apartment window too?"

and: "that awkward moment when the giant billboard you drive pass on the way into the stadium features two guys your team just traded away beside a few guys you now expect to be traded away too."

The reactions along with the overall lack of stability in Atlanta created by the erratic and fast acting GM Lucas appears to have sent team owner Maxium Crowe over the edge as the owner was reportedly witnessed storming into the New Orleans Superdome and tackling GM Lucas from behind before dragging him by the ankles into a locker room where he began beating him mercilessly.

The vicious and vile assault has left GM Lucas in the hospital where he is expected to be released on his own accord later this evening, but for Maximus Crowe things are expected to get much worse.  The league has already announced he would be removed from power and forced to sell his franchise, a move that may need to be made simply to cover the legal fees that are sure to follow after such a public and violent scene.

Players around the league are said to be very wary of Atlanta right now, with many free agents expected to distance themselves from the troubled and embattled franchise until some form of true stability can be found.

Potential buyers of the franchise are already beginning to line up all around the nation as local and out-of-state ownership groups begin to plan their bids for the team.

AAF AND XFL TO CONDUCT SIMULTANEOUS DRAFT, USING BASEBALL MODEL OF DRAFTING COLLEGE PLAYERS BEFORE FINAL GAMES!

NEW YORK, NY --- In a joint press conference held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, AAF and XFL commissioners Bill Polian and Oliver Luck announced that the two leagues would partner in a "Joint" Draft  that would allow the two leagues to avoid bidding against one another for players and prospects.   The bigger news came when Charlie Ebersol, founder of the AAF announced that the draft would take place in one weeks time.  This method of drafting before the NCAA football season concludes is new for the football universe but not in all of college sports. Baseball players are used to being drafted before playing their final games as amateurs later in the season, but the risk associated with football has always acted as a deterrent for football leagues to draft before players have concluded their careers in College.

The move gives the AAF and XFL first dibs on draft prospects, giving teams the opportunity to snipe players that were once believed to be destined for a career in the HIFL.  A move XFL Chairman Vince McMahon called: "A strategic yet bold move designed to give our leagues a leg up on the already established competition."   McMahon went on to say that his league would be willing to Purchase the contracts of certain "desirable" players from HIFL teams with the intention of placing those players into the draft pool.

One final bit of news broken during the press conference, when it was announced by Oliver Luck that his son Andrew had committed to entering the draft pool and would be leaving his current commitment in Indianapolis to do so, a move that has immediately added legitimacy to the upcoming draft and the pair of leagues as a whole.

BREAKING NEWS: MERMEN OFFICIALLY PART WAYS WITH GM BLACK DEATH AFTER TEAM ANNOUNCES SALE TO NEIL COHEN

LONG BEACH, CA --- At the start of the season it was quietly announced that the Long Beach Mermen were up for sale.  Today that news came to the forefront of the league when The pioneer of Long Beach Mermen football Sir Arthur Curry announced that he had come to an agreement to sell the team to Social Media Mogul Neil Cohen.  Cohen, a resident of Anaheim, CA purchased the team for a reported $1.6 Billion dollars.

Cohen made a brief statement during which he outlined his plan to return the Mermen to relevancy, a move he said would start with cleaning house starting at the top with the departure of General Manager Black Death.   He went on to say the team would "100%" stay in Long Beach and that he would be looking for a General Manager with a fresh and out of the box style of managing as the team works to rebuild.

Speaking at the press conference Curry thanked the fans of Long Beach for their support through what he called "the darkest years that followed our triumphant climb to the top of the league."  He also said that he would be stepping down after the season ended, and would work with Cohen as a special adviser.

BREAKING: MERMEN CUT BAIT, MOVE ON FROM WRIGHT'S CONTRACT WITH SALE TO AAF/XFL

After two and half years of disappointing play, the Long Beach Mermen have finally given up on former Number 6 overall draft choice, QB Jonathan Wright.   Wright (24), was traded today to the XFL for a mere $2MM in off-season PR, but the move saves Long Beach an immediate $9MM in salary and $3MM in PR as Wright comes off of their books immediately.

Wright started 8 games this season and completed 49.4% of his passes for 11 TDs and 5 INTs despite the team making a move for dynamic receiver Michael Hodge in the off-season.   Wright ends his Mermen career starting 33 games, completing 50.3% of his passes with a 27:25 TD/INT ratio with a career 67.3 QB Rating.

Jonathan Wright is the younger brother of Hall of Fame Quarterback and current Rapid City Inferno offensive Coordinator Larry Wright, but despite his billing as a future franchise QB coming out of the University of Texas, Jonathan has failed to live up to the billing without a doubt.

The move is the first of what appears to be several possible moves at the trade deadline as new owner Neil Cohen and former owner Arthur Curry work in tandem to add assets to a team that will be seeking a new general manager next season.

BREAKING: TRADESZN IN FULL EFFECT AS LINCOLN MOVES MAJOR PACKAGE TO ADD SUPERSTAR HODGE IN DEAL THAT SENDS FAN FAVORITES LARGE/COX TO LONG BEACH!

LONG BEACH --- Just days after announcing that major changes would be on the horizon for the franchise, Long Beach parted ways with disgruntled star wide receiver Michael Hodge.  The trade came as a shock to many around the league as he lands in suddenly "ALL-IN" Lincoln who parted ways not only with a 2nd round draft pick but also cult-fan favorite receiver duo Thomas Large and Michael Cox.

Large/Cox as fans refer to the duo, not only won over fans for their humorous nickname, but also with their play on the field.  Large, who was recently called the mid-season MVP by GM Adam Wrong, has put up impressive numbers posted 42 catches for 929 yards and 11 TDs in the first half of the season, but insiders point to his 9 drops and the fact that Hodge has only dropped 11 passes over the past 6 total seasons as the leading cause in the move.

Hodge has thrived in all forms of offense despite subpar QB play in his stops in St. Paul, Atlanta, and most recently Long Beach, in his one season with Merv Patton in Orlando he caught a career high 85 passes for 1498 yards and 15 Touchdowns while only dropping two passes.

Hodge and Large may now forever be tied to one another after this trade, but regardless, it appears to be a trade that could be won by both teams in the long term.

NEW YORK, NY --- The first annual Alliance of American Football and XFL joint genesis draft took place this weekend and when the dust was settled all 16 franchises found themselves with a 41 Man Roster (40+1 practice squad) to propel themselves to play for their inaugural season which is set to kickoff at the end of the HIFL regular season.   The Ft. Collins Gunners made the expected pick at #1 overall, selecting quarterback Andrew Luck at #1 overall, but the Houston Longhorns surprised everyone in attendance by trading the #2 overall pick for Philadelphia's 1st (6th overall), 3rd, and 5th round picks.  Philadelphia selected Swedish Quarterback sensation Elias Imbrahimovic at #2.  The move was seen as risky as there are still said to be a pair of suitors for Ibrahimovic in the HIFL, but with a wide open salary cap with no money committed elsewhere, it is believed that Philadelphia 'should' be able to ink the 26 year old phenom to a deal in order to build the franchise around his generational talents.

SEASON 10 - WK10

PAIR OF FORMER DRAGONS, PAIR OF LUMBERJACKS SET TO BE REPLACED AFTER DECLINING ALL-STAR GAME INVITATION

GM Kirk and GM Jon will be scouting their respective conferences closely over the next couple of weeks in search of qualified All-Star replacements after a group of players elected to bow out of the All-Star game for various reasons.

Wide Receiver Eugene McReynolds sited an undisclosed injury as the reason he would prefer not to participate in the game, while Stephen Cotter was more vocal saying, "The Cotter don't play when the Cotter isn't gettin' paid!  This foo-foo feel good bullshit with everybody getting a trophey is for the birds, plus GM Kirk is in charge of The Cotter's team, and The Cotter isn't playing for that guy ever again!"

Meanwhile on the Western All-Stars, RB George Carlson opted out while explaining he wanted to keep himself fresh for Seattle's stretch run while FS Sam Rose has elected to bypass the event due to his recent injuries that have sidelined him saying, "I'd rather get an extra week of rest to be sure I'm 100% when its time to get back into divisional play."

SEASON 10 - WK12

BREAKING NEWS: JERSEY/PHILLY COMPLETE DEAL THAT COULD OPEN DOOR TO IBRAHMIOVIC'S HIFL ARRIVAL!

NEWARK --- A Private jet carrying Elias Ibrahimovic, the Swedish Quarterback drafted #2 overall by the Philadelphia Freedom last week in the XFL / AAF Genesis Draft, is headed for Newark International Airport.  Hours after the New Jersey Dragons sold the contracts of QB John Lynn, SS Lawrence Cantrell, and prospects Michael Johnson (DE), and Brett Harvey (OT) to Philadelphia for $750,000.  $500K of which was immediately spent to meet the rider demands of Ibrahmiovic.

The flashy and sometimes controversial Swedish Quarterback is no lock to sign with the Dragons, but now that he has been released from his signing rights with the Freedom in the XFL, the doorway could be open for Ibrahmovic to sign a deal and bolster the Dragons (or another teams) offense for the remainder of Season 10 and beyond.
