TV Shows
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:56:07 AM »
What shows are you currently watching on TV? Would you recommend anything that the rest of us might have overlooked? I've been watching  a lot of Black Sails and Alpha House. Black Sails is a prequel to Treasure Island (set twenty years before the events in the book). It's far better than Crossbones and not just because it has lots more nudity. Alpha House is a political comedy starring John Goodman. It's made by Amazon, which is something I didn't realise they did. Even though I know very little about American politics, I'm really enjoying the show.

Any suggestions about what else I should be watching?

I watch Justified and Walking Dead along with Impractical Jokers and Supernatural.

Justified is great but in its final season.

Supernatural was great S1-S6 but its gone on into the stupid zone now to where I'm several weeks behind now and don't care.

I'll add more detail when I'm not on my phone.

Without cable, I tend to watch shows after they've already finished their seasons.

Currently watching Broadchurch and QI.

Nothing else current that I make sure to keep up with. A lot of sitcoms because their easy to watch while doing other stuff.

Justified is fantastic. Also agree on Supernatural. I'm only part of the way through last season and not in a hurry to catch up.

I'd recommend The Blacklist. Not sure the show as a whole is great, but James Spader is fantastic.

Black Sails and The Walking Dead are the only ones I watch with any regularity on TV.  I've got Netflix though too so I've been watching some stuff on there whenever I'm not watching NXT on the Network.

Currently watching Broadchurch.

If this is the UK TV show starring David Tennant then I thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

First season was great. Second series had it's last episode last week, so by the time you've watched 1 they will hopefully upload 2.

Isn't there an American version also starring David Tennant?

I'll also recommend Hannibal. Great version of the Dr. Lecter story. Show is through with two seasons with the third this summer.

Second season finale was best thing on US TV last season.

I watched the first season of this and it was alright. I enjoyed the concept, it just seemed they executed it all too fast and then it turned into Lost with teenagers.

What did you think of this? I kinda felt like I should've hated it but was somewhat entertained by it.

I enjoyed the 1st season, Justin, not got around to watching the rest.

Enjoyed the first two seasons of AHS, I liked Murder House more than Asylum, watched the first couple of Freak Show but never finished it and never watched Coven, although I plan on it.

I binged watched Gotham this past weekend, catch up for season 2, and while my dislikes still stand (Everything felt extremely rushed especially in the first 5 or 6 episodes) I enjoyed it and the season premiere damn near killed my joy with another rush of plot lines.

I wasn't impressed by the season 2 premier of Gotham, either. It was like they just wanted to wipe out all of the plot points from the end of the previous series as quickly as possible.

From what I've read Gotham is going to more of an anthology style this season, and this episode was helping set it up, instead of the bad guy of the week format.

I've not seen Gotham but I had heard a lot of good things about it. I'm a bit disappointed to read the reviews here though.
Game of Thrones is possibly the best thing that's been on tv, other than Match of the Day. I'm a big fan of Black Sails too. I wasn't sure how good it would be but I was very pleasantly surprised. I was watching The Brink and Ballers while the others have been off air. They're very funny but I don't feel like I have to watch every episode, if that makes sense.
The one series I was very disappointed by was the second season of True Detective. The first was brilliant but they seemed to completely lose their way with the second and the finale was more cliched than a Premier League interview.
