With that in mind, do you feel that an increased blitz would be beneficial to us this week? It might allow us to put more pressure on the QB and get to Elliot faster. I just don’t want to open us up to easy runs for him.

I think we can attack both phases of the game this week with an increase in the blitz.  We'll just have to make and finish our tackles.

I believe that is something our guys are capable of doing.

Beyond that I don’t think there’s too much to address. We have a fair number of injuries, so if everyone injured can’t go, we are likely looking at Benton starting for us at one of the tackles. Not optimal but he seemed to fair well there last week.

We'll make due with what we have, but hopefully we come out of this ridiculous injury riddled funk soon.

With our ratios, we have tweaked them to match our opponents, do you see a need to change them from where they are currently set? How do we stack up?

Pretty evenly.

We're currently 13th in scoring, 6th in yards, 11th in rushing, and 6th in passing.
and defensively - 9th in points against, 23rd in total yards, 18th in rushing allowed, and 19th vs. the pass.

They are 10th in scoring, 7th in yards, 7th in rushing, 9th in passing... 4th in points against, 4th in yards against, 4th in rushing against, and 9th vs the pass.

So they are worse against the pass though not by too much. Given how close they are in that regard, do you think that putting the pass in the majority of our ratio would be beneficial? Or is 4th vs 9th more or less a crapshoot?

I believe we have the ability to pass on anyone, so I never appose leaning heavy on the pass game.

I do too, and I think we will lean in that direction going forward. Thank you for your input coach.

That was all I had for now, I will let you get back to practice.

————

Greg Adams please.

————

Greg, I just wanted to take a moment and officially welcome you to Rapid City. I also wanted to congratulate you on that touchdown this past week. It really set the tone for the game. Can’t wait to see what you have in store next.

Thanks boss, I couldn't believe that after starting 37 games for DC over the last three years and putting together some solid numbers every year that nobody was gonna sign me.    I think people get too hung up on ratings and stars and forget to look at production.

I'm gonna do you proud, believe that.

You’re welcome, Greg. I will let you get back to practice.

————

Ashley, the coaches please.

————

Alright, coaches I don’t want to take up too much time, and would rather just keep things rolling. We will make a few changes and I think they will give us the edge to beat Cleveland. So let’s do just that. Let’s go out and bring down the Mustangs.

Rotation: Mostly Starters
Tempo: Very Fast
Strategy/Depth Chart Changes:

60% Pass/40% Run
Blitz Ratio to 60%

DE1 - George Gaskins, DE2 - Morris Kennedy, DE3 - Joel Pierce
Donald Benton in for Bowman (if Bowman can’t go)
Greg Adams in for Nakamura (if Nakamura can’t go)

Everything else coaches decision.

Lock In

S10 WEEK 6

1. Talk us through this weeks game. What went wrong?  What went right?

To come away with a win against a team like Cleveland is good. We took advantage of some gaffs by our opponent, and made plays when it mattered most. We got sacks when we needed them and got scores when it mattered most. Our running game was pretty good and while it took a bit for our passing game to settle in, eventually Pruitt got his rhythm. Ralph Brown made some great catches to really push us downfield, and our defense did a great job of limiting them to just field goals. Sure, we weren't playing Smoak, but that doesn't meant they weren't capable of scoring touchdowns. They were, we just held them from doing it. It was a great game all around from the entire team. A few things we could tweak and work at, but it was a great win to keep us on pace with the division.

2. Talk about this weeks league news, what stood out most to you?

I will have to echo what Pruitt said - as we get healthy we become more dangerous. And now that we are only missing three players, we definitely are dangerous. The other thing that stood out to me was what was going on with Franchise. Definitely makes it tough when you're unsure of where the games are being played. Maybe he's been preoccupied with other ventures who knows, just not the smartest move.

3. What do you make of the news of the newest GM's to join the league? What advice would you give them?

I love it. It's great to see new GMs in the league, to get some new perspectives and new ways to run a team. As for advice, I think the best thing I can say is do what you need to do to build the team. If it takes time, it takes time. Sometimes theres a process to go through and with some of the teams they've taken or may take over, they need a bit of time to gel.

4. With the draft class being announced later this week, do you plan to target personalities, skill sets, or position groups at the college showcase?

I will probably take a look at some position groups, maybe some skill sets, who knows. You never really know until you get there and see whats there to look at. Something else could catch my eye, you never know.

5. What do you hope to gain most this week during the bye week, for yourself but also for your team?

Health. We were hit hard the first six weeks with injury. We've gotten a bunch of guys back, but we could do with this bye week to get even more back. As we get healthier, we will become more dangerous and will keep winning games.

"How much concern do you have with your offense, with Jose Pruitt having failed to throw a touchdown pass in back-to-back games for the first time in his career with Rapid City?"

I don’t have too much concern. We have running backs and a running game who can punch it in and Pruitt is still making big plays when it counts to get us in position to score. Hes a great leader and he’s playing some great football for us.

I know we get to enjoy the bye week this week, but man if we don't have a buzz-saw of a schedule waiting for us after.. St. Paul, Vegas, San Antonio, Alabama, and Orlando...  murders row.

Definitely is a tough task coming out of the bye coach. I guess the only bonus is that we will be as healthy as we’ve been since the kick off to the season. That should help us going forward especially with the teams we have to face.

I was impressed with the win against Cleveland though - we might not have been at our best but we definitely made sure to hold them from scoring any touchdowns.

Agreed. The defense didn't break when we needed them to stand firm.  That's huge.  We're still a championship team, and everyone on the roster knows that.

That they did they really showed what they are made of on the field.

Speaking of the defense I wanted to talk to you about our corners. Maybe this is a question best directed at Coach Barbour but I wanted to pick your brain about James Richmond. Obviously this past week wasn’t the best for him and I’m just curious, from what you’ve seen, is this what he is or would a little extra work help to unlock anymore potential?

Coach Barbour and I were talking about Richmond earlier and we both feel that despite the fact that he should be able to continue to get better, his potential is stunted a bit by his lack of work ethic.

Do you think there is something we could do to maybe improve his work ethic? Or is it something that is more for him to work out on his own.

Maybe we will put a pin in that for now.

Looking ahead, I wanted to ask...what did you think of our overall performance last week? I am thinking of keeping our strategies the same out of the bye, which means the same 60/40 and the 60% blitz. I think it gives us a great chance to win.

Coach Barbour please.

Coach I wanted to talk to you about Greg Adams. I know it’s only been 2 games, but what do you make of him? Good or bad. I wouldn’t mind trying to keep him involved now that everyone’s healthy, maybe it can help stave off more injuries down the road.

Glad we saw the same things.

I assume we are also in agreement with this but with Milliken out I’m going to slide Berry back to FS for the next bit.

Beyond that though I like what we’ve got going on defense. The team is playing very well on that side of the ball.

THE COMMOTION CAUSES A DISTRACTiON AND BOTH GM GATES AND JEREMY MARTIN LOOK OVER IN THE DIRECTION OF GM LUCAS’ CRIES FOR HELP

Crazy scene...I’d like to think we are better then that here.

Anyways where were we...right, you’re right you have been making the most of your carries. I know you haven’t got as many but hopefully as the season goes on we can get you more. Get you the ball more and let you do your thing.

Thank you, I've worked hard to prove that I am worthy of the playing time I wanted.  Trying to make big plays every single time I touch the football, and I think I'm doing that so far.  10 of my 29 catches have gone for 20+ yards, and my goal is to average more than 20 yards per catch for the 2nd year in a row.

You have definitely done just that, Ralph. After all there’s a reason you’re known as Clutchdown Brown, because of all the clutch plays you’ve been making the past few years.

Keep it up, Ralph and there will be more championship magic happening around Rapid City.
