It's a huge drop off.  Speed, tackling, IQ... Watkins has a big advantage in all of those areas.

Excellent, thanks for that. I’ve been in trade talks to acquire some upgrades and just wanted to make sure what we had there so I didn’t weaken us one spot to improve us somewhere else.

Back to the game plan, what is our current blitz percent that we run? I don’t know if it will be worth increasing if we are already at a decent number.

It changes on down and distance, but generally I'd say it averages around 55%, more on first down and third, less on 2nd.

Good to know. I might not make too many changes to it then. I don’t want to put us in worse positions by blitzing too much, so might leave the defensive strategies for now.

So unless I have anything pressing, I will let you get back to practice.

Selina, Steve Rosenhaus please.

—————

Mr. Rosenhaus, I wanted to ask about your client LB Herbert Peters. Would he be interested in a 1 year deal worth $500K for the rest of this season?

Thanks Steve. Take care.

—————

Selina, can you send in Coach Peterson please?

—————

Alright coach, I made a move to strengthen our defence by bringing in 2Face Obaje to play opposite Freese. The move basically makes some of those sub packages we set up null since we won’t need Chow to slide down to DE.

We did have one with Haynes at DE, would you want to keep that one in the rotation to give Gordon some reps?

I think keeping Gordon getting reps is a good call, we want him to develop, so he needs to play.

Sounds good coach. Than what I am going to do for that package, is slide Freese inside to DT, and then roll Obaje and Haynes as the two DE. Leaves everything else the same but keeps our best players on the field.

1. Talk about your week (if you had a game or bye week, act appropriately)

Last week I said that we would put up 6 sacks, keep Day from getting momentum and get the win and that is what we did. What I didn’t expect is that we wouldn’t get much momentum going ourselves and would scrape by in a low scoring game. It wasn’t a pretty win, but good teams find ways to win those tough games, and we did just that. Obaje had a real impact in his first game in Miami, coming out of the gates firing with his sacks and fumbles on the first half that really helped set the tone.

Our offense struggled, but I think that is partially because of Michigan’s defense. They are a bit underrated overall and kept us from really running away with the game. But we will work on getting that facet of our game going for our match up this week.

2. Talk about any news that caught your eye.

Interesting to see all the leaked names who would welcome trades to a contender. In some cases you’ve got veterans who want to chase that ring and in a few others you have players who may just be fed up with their current situation. Either way, seems like it will spark some of the trades around the league as teams try and load up.

3. After 1/4 of the season, where do you see a potential area your team could buy or sell from?

One area we looked to improve out of camp was our defensive line and we did that with the deal for Obaje. That doesn’t mean we are done making this team into an Impact Bowl favorite though. I’ve always got my ear to the market to see what kind of upgrades are out there.

4. (if playing a game this week):  Talk about your game this week, what needs to change with your team this week as you head into the 2nd quarter of the season?

We travel to DC to take on what looks to be a rejuvenated Cobras team. No Sasser to kick field goals all day, but Coach Saint seems to have unlocked something in Mariota. If we can keep up our defensive pressure and make the most of our offensive opportunities, we can definitely make life tough for DC. The change we need to make is our turnovers. If we limit those and keep the ball on our side, then we stand a good chance at not giving away free points.

Hey GM Gates, just wanted to come by and thank you for bringing me in.. With Freese and Chow, we got a nasty pass rush that is gonna really make life hell for these quarterbacks, and I'm excited to get to work.

2Face, great to finally meet you. When I knew I had a chance to bring you in, I had to make it happen. Yourself, Freese and Chow out there with Cotter and Glaze...it makes for an amazing pass rush and a great defensive front for teams to navigate, something that is too good to pass up. We are going to make a run and you guys are going to terrorize those QBs as we do.

And while I have you, fantastic first game. I could tell you felt rejuvenated here just by watching you play. And if that’s a sign of things to come, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store as you guys go to work.

I’ll let you get back to practice. Thanks for coming in.

Selina, Coach Jose please.

Well, coach, it wasn’t pretty but we got the win.

I’d like to think this low offensive output for us was a case of a strong Michigan defence and not that our offence is just that bad in general. Would that be your assessment too?

Michigan has been building a good defense piece by piece for a little while now, so I definitely think it was more them than us.

That was my thought. Just wanted to get the opinion of someone who was down there on the field.

Now when it comes to Hallquist...I’m ready to either pick up his 4th year option or work out a longer deal with him and just wanted to make sure we are on the same page there, that you like what you’ve seen from him.

Speaking as a former QB, there is no reason why we don't pick up his option vs. pay him more on an extension a year before we have to, but that being said he is definitely playing how I had hoped he would, so I think we definitely pick up the option to keep him around.

I get what you’re saying, Coach. But at least we are in agreement to keep him around.

Now looking ahead to this game against DC. It would seem that the key to beating them is to put the pressure on Mariota and see if he can get it done. I think it will be a good match up with our front seven, since they’ve been pretty consistent getting to the quarterback this season.

Agreed.  I think we should have success against their line.
