SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- 40 YARD DASH ENDS WITH AMAZING SHOW OF ENDURANCE

NEW ORLEANS --- Talk about a game of inches.  The 40 yard dash was an event that if you blinked you missed some of them.  Each man lined up against a paired partner which saw John Young beat Roger Quick and Ian Mcintyre while Henry Golden beat out TJ Edwards and Curt Robles.  John Young was the favorite considering his first round time of 4.27 was the best in the entire of the competition but it was Henry Golden in the final round that saw him score a 4.25 – which would’ve beat John Young in the first round but not the final round.  John Young in his last run ran a 4.19 leaving many of his fellow competitors with their eyes as wide open as their mouths.  Young and Golden were both interviewed afterwards and were on the same message, “We’re both just looking to make our mark on the league.  We showcased today that we have what it takes to compete with the best.”

SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- JUGS COMPETITION BECOMES SHOWCASE OF UNBELIEVABLE ATHLETICISM!

NEW ORLEANS --- This competition had the eyes of everyone on the field and what eyes weren’t paying attention quickly turned their attention once it got down to the finals.  What was meant to be one of the quicker competitions developed into one of the most competitive.  James Taylor had walked into the locker room prior to the event announcing proudly to his competitors, “which one of y’all playing for second?” Everyone was motivated to prove Turnover Taylor wrong but through the elimination rounds Taylor impressed all in attendance not dropping a single pass in the competition.

However, veteran Burton Tibbetts matched him catch for catch refusing to let the younger all star shine on his name.  What was meant to be a 10 minute final round ended up becoming an hour long marathon.  Both men agreed to skirt the rules of the competition, practically challenging each other to a game of HORSE with only one elimination.  One handed catches, backwards catches, blindfolded catches all were showcase but it was James Taylor capitalizing on his athleticism with a backflip catch that saw him catch two balls, one in each hand and landing successfully.  Tibbetts, despite his ability, was only able to catch one of the balls and according to some Olympic judges did not "stick" the landing, crowning the vastly popular Free Safety the king of the JUGS Machine!

SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- TUG OF WAR GROWS HEATED AS TEMPERS FLARE

NEW ORLEANS --- It was an uphill battle for Talon Wilkinson II as he was clearly targeted for being the only Rookie in this competition.  His first round matchup got headed as he was paired up with Ali Muhammad who shared an opinion with many involved that he had on the “daddy’s boy.”  Clearly motivated further by Muhammad's words, TWII dug in to win his side of the bracket beating Muhammad and DC Center Makai Si’Lo’Ha who had taken out Paul Schmitt earlier in the event.

On the other side of the bracket Noah Rose was dominating his first round matchup of Shawn Galindo easily, but Philip Sanderson and Joseph Worthington proved to be the unstoppable force versus the immovable object in their matchup.  The contest lasted twice as long as the longest first round matchup and left eventual winner Worthington winded when he faced Rose.  Noah took advantage and then proceeded to open his mouth as well as he came out to face Talon Wilkinson II in the finals.  Rose was heard just digging into the rookie swearing, “I won’t lose to no damn Commish Boy.  I beat your brother, Now you can get these hands too Junior!” The comment certainly didn’t sit well with Bruce Wilkinson, who was on the sidelines and had to be restrained by teammates Phillip Sanderson and Timothy Cobbs.

Despite the extra motivation given by Noah Rose words it was all for naught as the rookies best efforts were defeated in an amazing battle of strength that would crown Rose as the league's Strongest Man for this year.

SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- OBSTACLE COURSES PROVIDE AMAZING PLATFORM FOR STARS TO SHINE!

NEW ORLEANS --- In the Linebacker O-Course challenge, A showcase in the final round presented what might be the absolute best assembly of talent at the Linebacker position as Las Vegas' Gordon Goulet battled against D.C.'s Larry Stevens.  Both men were impressive in their run with Vegas’ Goulet doing just enough to sneak by Stevens who had made the final run first, giving Goulet a clear time to beat.

The competition was overshadowed however as Stephen “The Cotter” Cotter had an embarrassing false start that never got off the ground.  Refusing to finish his race time he was in the face of an all star volunteer for causing the false start.  “The Cotter” was loud and boisterous to anyone within ear shot as he chewed out the volunteer for prematurely firing the gun before he was ready.  Though he managed to restrain himself from getting too physical, the famed LB has looked better and clearly left a damper on the event as a whole.

In one of the few competitions that was not restricted by position we saw a plethora of talent come to compete in the "Skills" Position O-Course Challenge.  Comprised of two QB’s, 2 DB’s, 1 WR, and 3 RB’s these players put their entire skill set to the test.  The most surprising inclusion was of Portland Brewers minor leaguer Timothy Dekker – Dekker was the only player invited that had not made an official league roster thanks to an outpouring of fan support which flooded the commissioner's office over the past several weeks.  Dekker However, showed he belong when in the first round paired with CB Alfred Glass of the DC Cobras, he managed to shatter the Glass Ceiling.  On the other side a small rivalry was renewed between QB’s Jamie Ortega and Stephen Shelley.  Earlier in the season the two had traded superman poses against one another and while that continued today the trash talk was healthy and stayed in jest.  Ortega advanced over Shelley and then beat out Adrian McCaffrey in the second round.

The Cinderella story continued into the second round as Portland’s Timothy Dekker went one on one with WR Michael Hodge. Hodge certainly showcased his elite athleticism but it was Dekker who managed to best the recently traded All Star and lead to a final showdown with Timothy Dekker and Jamie Ortega.  Ortega livened up the festivities as he approached the starting line with a Superman cape adorned and set the time to beat between himself and next year’s possible comeback player of the year. Timothy Dekker certainly gave it his all but despite his best efforts was not able to better the time of Jamie Ortega.  Jamie, after matchup, was interviewed and gave credit to the minor leaguer, “I don’t know what he’s doing in Eugene but Timothy can move!  That being said, let it be known - Superman is real and all y’all haters out there? Kryptonite is a myth!  Let’s go Baby!!!”

Other leagues might have you convinced that what it takes to be a great offensive linemen is size and power but today’s competition proved anything but.  The combination of power, speed, agility and intelligence showcased the very best of offensive linemen the High Impact Football League has to offer.

George Britt bested Harry Hamm, Juan Oher took out favorite Anthony Smith, Carl Beal handle Mark Prince, while Josue Luce handled Joshua Love all in the first round.  In the next matchup each lineman stepped their game up which saw the final competition between Oher and Britt.

Both men were in friendly competitive moods playing with one another which was a large contrast to the QB competition earlier in the day. In the end it was New Jersey's Oher who overcame Oakland's George Britt to claim victory.  After the win Juan Oher talked about a new era in the HIFL.  “Long gone are the days of putting on massive weight to combat defenses.  Defensive linemen are getting stronger, faster, and more agile so the lineman has to evolve into something else.  I’m glad I was able to represent my team well and show what the future of this position will be.”

SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- A NEW RIVALRY FORMS AS BAD BLOOD BETWEEN IBRAHIMOVIC AND "THE GENERAL" DOMINATE PAIR OF PASSING COMPETITIONS!

NEW ORLEANS --- Controversy kicked off the quaterback games as the first round of the Precision Passing event slated Orlando's General Mervin Patton against Elias Ibrahimovic the late addition coming over from Sweden to New Jersey prior to last weeks games. Elias turned heads after refusing to participate despite accepting an invitation.  Rather than take the forfeited victory Patton asked for a competitor and was answered by Portland QB and future hall of famer Stephen Crawford who was with the rest of the non-competition players on the field and sidelines as a spectator.  Patton won his impromptu battle with Crawford and bested Pruitt on his way to a finals match-up with Charlotte QB and former mentor Christian Sullivan.  Sullivan himself had faced off against Marcus Mariota and Giovanni Hill to advance to the finals. Ultimately it was Merv Patton that saw his usual surgical attack of a defense as he was able to consistently land target after target to claim victory.

Things got real interesting as the same group of Quarterbacks were also slotted to compete in the Cannon Toss competition.  This time instead of the targets being at a close distance and moving they were at a much further distance and static.  Ibrahimovic was again slated to go first against the Rookie Keenan Daley but Merv Patton requested they switch positions as he never got to face off with Elias previously.  In a stunning upset Ibrahimovic was victorious over Merv Patton as well as against defending MVP Marcus Mariota.  Elias only stopped to talk once during the Cannon competition as he pulled out his secret weapon in the finals against Cleveland’s Caleb Smoak.

Despite both men able to hit the same number of targets downfield Ibrahimovic trotted out a bullseye with his own face on it and placed it right behind the goal post on the far end of the field, then standing on the 20 yard line and with a small run up to it he hurled the ball down the field and hit it square in the bullseye with the ball traveling 100 yards through the air before making it’s target!  The action didn’t stop there as Patton and Ibrahimovic were both rewarded at the same time for their victories with Patton taking the high road and congratulating Elias. However Ibrahimovic didn’t waste time or words speaking to Patton directly, “I know you upset Ibrahimovic not play you in precision game because to play me would be highlight of career.  Only reason you have win is because Ibrahimovic let you have win. He too is now your savior.  Maybe one day you will grow man arms and be able to throw ball down pitch like adult. They say you called General but today you suck on private.  You are welcome and New Orleans are welcome for having witnessed Ibrahimovic!”

Elias Ibrahimovic is clearly turning heads for a variety of reasons, some of which are quickly making him public enemy number 1 for rival teams and fans.

SEASON 10 - ALL STAR BREAK

ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION -- GENERALLY SPEAKING: PATTON DOMINATES HIFL FIELD IN JEOPARDY STYLE QUIZ GAME

NEW ORLEANS --- Despite being a field of eight competitors this was a one sided matchup the entire way. Hardly letting anyone else get an answer in edgewise Orlando Stampede QB Merv Patton mowed down the competition.  Even though Michigan’s Punter Andrew Vieira came in second place the gap between first and second could have fit the rest of the field.

After the competition and during the presentation when asked about if New Jersey’s QB motivated him to win, Merv Patton refused to answer any questions.  “I don’t want to give that man anymore media attention than he deserves.  I came here to represent the East, the Orlando Stampede, and all the fans tuning in.  I’ve worked hard from being a backup to being one of the best in the league – I don’t need the motivation.”
