FRANCHISE TAG CLARIFICATION
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:48:24 PM »
The Franchise Tag
The Franchise Tag is designed to help a team retain their best player while compensating that player.
Each team may use the Franchise tag once per off-season.  A player designated with the Franchise tag will be awarded a 1 year contract worth either a salary equal to the average of the top 5 players at the players position, or a 25% raise over their previous salary (whichever is greater).

A player who is designated as a franchise player is still allowed to negotiate a deal with another team, but if that team wishes to sign the player the original team has the chance to match the contract.  If the original team chooses not to match the offered contract, the signing team must surrender two 1st round draft picks to the original team (unless another trade is worked out between the two teams).

Once a player has been Franchise Tagged, all teams may offer/negotiate contracts with his agent. you do not have to wait for a new time period to do this, it may begin immediately.

Warning, not all players will like being designated with the Franchise Tag

For clarification:

A player can not be traded while on the franchise tag during ERFA.  That player can be traded once the draft begins, but during ERFA the player can only leave the team via being signed to an offer sheet and then the two teams either work out a deal or the 2-first round pick compensation occurs.

It does not take ERFA time off your 24 hours to talk to a franchise tagged player.

for the future, you can not talk to a player on the franchise tag unless you have the two firsts needed. Whether or not the team needs the two firsts to make the deal is up to the team and your team, but to negotiate with the player on the offer sheet, you need to have the picks that the league requires for the transaction to take place.

Amendment Starting Season 10-11 Off-Season --- A team may sign a franchised player so long as they have a minimum of two first round picks over the upcoming and following season, however it is up to the team losing it's franchise-tagged player to choose which picks they will receive.

EXAMPLE: Team A signs Team B's franchise-tagged player.   Team B then chooses from the pool of Team A's available 1st round draft picks from S10 and S11, choose the 2 of their choice.
