I liked it. If I were to change anything i would like to see guys defend who they voted for if they arent an automatic nomination. Could be fun.

We should probably be discussing on here instead of the other thread... or on Discord.

My ballot is similar to Jonís, maybe a few differences but for the most part the same.

A few of the ones that have been posted make me wonder. Stark ahead of McCarthy, Action or McFadden? Martin and Spurgeon on ballots where Robles isnít voted? I get this weird feeling some elite, first ballot talent is going to not be inducted...

McFadden was all pre-GM era. I have no interest in voting him in because he did nothing after GMs joined the league. His success was all just the luck of the draw in the early sims and doesn't count for much against achievement in the true game. I don't remember him ever being good. If we have a lean year, he can get in then but there are far more people who we actually saw have success who should be voted in first.

He might be a great punter, but I donít see how he deserves a vote over some of the other HOF talent currently there to be voted in.

Because a punter effects the game in ways that don't get noticed. They're often under appreciated because nobody likes to see their team punt, yet they can influence the outcome of a game by flipping field position and pinning teams deep.

He averaged nearly 1 punt per game pinning opposing teams inside their own 20 yard line. 2nd most total yardage overall punting wise. Because of longevity and skill at an undervalued and under appreciated position, I think he is well deserving of the vote.

1 punt inside the 20 per game is not a good stat... especially with his amount of punts. Punt yardage doesnít mean anything to me, longevity is what punters do. How many times did he lead the league in punt average? Or punts inside the 20? This isnít a career achievement award... this is the hall of fame.

For reference purposes.... Johnny Hekker has 217 punts inside the 20 in 112 games. Letís not put a player in because heís the first decent player at his position to retire. Aoki is just a wasted vote.

I feel youíre just looking at raw numbers and not comparing to his peers at all.

WR - Jonathan Johnson
QB - Michael May
QB - Jerry Harris
RB - Alphonso Montes a couple of years back
HC - McFadden. i'm sorry, he may have been a great in the pre-GM era but he was basically just a character from what i saw of him.

Some of those had a few good seasons but weren't consistent enough to be HoF material. That's just my opinion though and I'm happy to be talked around if the argument is there for them.

I'm not just memeing, Thomas Blaine had a 16 year career, and sure, most of it was pre-genned by the sim, and all of it pre-GM era, but I think to make a meaningful HoF, we have to his some 'history' in it. A Hall of Fame featuring mostly players who just played the last ~6 seasons isn't really a Hall of Fame.

Admittedly, for a guy like Blaine, we don't know what his pro-career looks like, cause that's not how the game works. We do know that he had solid HIFL seasons before retiring. Presumably a guy with a long career like that had to had some success. I'd like to imagine he was an All-pro QB in the predecessor league to the HIFL. The NFL honors pre-NFL players, WWE honors pre-WWE wrestlers, we should honor pre-HIFL/GM Era players.

I don't know the names of many pre-HIFL players, but with the inclusion of someone like Blaine, that opens up our story to the potential of revealing other great players who were generated by the sim but a little to old to make an impact on us. Maybe Talon has some great ideas already, and it will take us showing some interest in order to get it.

My argument is not one of arbitrary stats, but of deepening the immersion of our world. I think that's a worthy goal here. Blaine is going to the top of my ballot, and I hope in seasons to come, other players like him will join in the Hall.

Yeah, sorry Gooch. I didn't have any HIFL punter stats on hand and wondered what the best punter in the NFL currently has for numbers to reference to Aoki.

Anyways, looking at the stats:

S5: Tied for 3rd in Punt Average (46.6), 1st in Punt Yards (which doesn't mean much as he also punted the most - so I won't mention this stat again). No stats for Punts inside the 20.
S6: 44.6 punt average (not sure on league ranking)
S7: 46.0 punt average. 10th Place.
S8: 47.5 punt average. 4th place.
S9: All I know is he wasn't 1st in punt average. Lewis Thompson was.
S10: 48.0 punt average. Tied for 6th. Tied for 8th in Punts inside the 20.

Sorry... but that does not scream hall of fame. He was a good punter. Not a great one.

Why are you comparing a HIFL punter to a real player? You know the sim is shit at punting, so a punt per game inside the 20 in this league is really good. Your example is irrelevant.

It seems like there are better punters based on the stats Jon has provided. We should figure out who they are and vote them if they are eligible.

Lewis Thompson and Hai Cooper were much better punters and are retired.

But I'm still not voting them in over the players that I have on my ballot.

The first wasn't an argument. It was a reference without having to dig for some stats that might not be readily available. More of a guide.

I can't argue against Lewis Thompson going in. Was the best punter in the league for a good bit.

This is also without knowing the punts inside the 20 stats though. Which I think is a pretty critical stat to weigh in on when determining true effectiveness at that position. But no doubt, he had a great punt average every season.

Talon posted the Top 10 for punts inside the 20 last season and it was tracked this season as well.

Can't find anything before Season 10 though.

WR - Jonathan Johnson

The dude is top 5 all time in receiving yards and touchdowns. You said it was a disgrace that Wenzel was a "snub" last year when JJ out performed him in EVERY statistical category ...

Houser and Kidwell were no brainers and so is Tibbetts. I like Wenzel for the HoF because of 1 stat that nobody else has. 1 drop in his entire career. Top 5 doesn't mean you were the best at anything but Wenzel had the best hands in league history and his achievement won't be replicated in this drop heavy league.
