Voted for Jeremy Martin. He led the way for the best team in football, so that's enough said.

My only qualm with that is if J-Mart had gone down The Inferno would have still been good because of their great QB who could  keep that offense rolling where if Mariota went down Kansas City's offense would have completely stalled. So in comparison Marcus Mariota was truly the most valuable player because without him the offense would have been derailed.

Mariota. No question. Ortega hinders his team more than helping it at times so he shouldn't be on that list.

This award should go to Anthony Smith.

It shouldn’t even be close, really.

Has to be Mariota. KC are nowhere near the playoffs without him.

Did Mariotta throw 1 INT get 1 False Start?

Then he had a worse year than Anthony Smith - practically had a literal perfect season.

If Dale Hardaway wasn't offensive rookie of the year in his rookie season there's no way Smith can be MVP. Hardaway gave away no sacks that season either but he was overlooked. Mariota has broken records while carrying his team to the top. He's the definition of MVP. Smith may deserve OPOTY but I'm not sure the results would have been that different if he was replaced by someone else. Replace Mariota and Kansas aren't anywhere near the same.

Most of the time a player's offensive stats are based on scheme.  Furthermore, quarterbacks and running backs can't put up half the numbers they do without a decent offensive line, let alone an absolute monster like Smith.  Just really sit and think in the context of football....120 pancakes....0 SACKS...and only 1 false start penalty...no holding penalties while giving up 0 sacks.

What is the proper definition of Most Valuable Player? Is it the impact they had for their team or is it their personal performance?

I guess the question I would ask is: When voting, if we scrapped all of our teams and you had the #1 pick in the draft, who would you go with Anthony Smith or Marcus Mariota? Who would bring the most value to your team?

A great QB can deal with a sub-par line and still produce for their team, leading to wins. Even the GOAT o-line can't make a shit QB any good.

Smith.  Cornerstone left tackle...I can find another quarterback comparable to Mariota in almost any draft.  Can't say the same about a player that can compare to Smith on his same level.

Do you think Hardaway should've been DRotY?

I wouldn't call either of those great QB's, but that's an argument for another day.

I think he's saying they had elite O-lines and looked good because they are in fact shit QBs.

My point stands then. I never thought that they appeared to be great QBs to begin with.

DC‘s entire line was strong, so Smith had it easy. OPOTY? Yes. MVP? No.

If getting all those pancakes was the equivalent of what Mariota did, why didn't DC get to the playoffs? Mariota dragged his team to the playoffs and Jon himself has said that DC failed by not getting there. How can a player be MVP when his team underachieved? He had a great personal year, but it didn't affect his team like Mariota's did.

Having said that, I voted for Smith because I just plain don't like the other players.

Plenty of people get shiny trophies without being great, or even 'very good'.  Hell, Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl!

Take Anthony smith away and the team still gets to where they went. Take Ortega away and Alabama doesn't clinch a playoff spot. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. It could have been Mariota but the rushing yards and TD's does it for me. Many teams win without a smith. as  long as they have a solid Oline and a good qb. You could have great oline and ok qb and still not win.
