Guys, to me this has to go to GM Mike Powers. What a story. Made a mistake, got fired for it. Got scorned by the league. Took a job with a franchise that was YEARS away from being relevant. Not only did he humbly take the job, but he made smart moves that turned Michigan into a playoff team. I looked back at our predictions and not one person had Michigan in there. Powers started the season disgraced and ends the regular season with a winning record and heading to the playoffs.

I know there are strong cases to be made for guys like Gates, Digger and T-Bone...but my vote goes to Powers.

Made a mistake =\= Bribed an investigator to frame two players and sabotage a rival GM.

...but Powers has had a great year.

To me the award should go to GM Bone.

He took a franchise down in the dumps and through a calculated slow build over the course of three seasons including a relocation, has made them a giant in HIFL, going toe-to-toe... punch-for-punch... with GM Gates and Rapid City.

He did it the right way. No drama. No controversy.

To ME, this is your GM of the year.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. I may have made a few mistakes in Missouri... A lot of mistakes in Missouri, but when I left we had just made the playoffs and Bone inherited Marcus Mariota, one of the best offense of lines in the HIFL, and some good defensive  pieces. Bone has done a great job (far better than I did) but he took a recently successful team and made them better. Powers came in to a bad team made smart draft picks and trades (Gio Hill from Lincoln and Lincoln using the traded pick for Bloom was a great move) picked up Hagan in a move that was frowned upon but ultimately worked and made a move with the Mayor that will help him in the future.

I'm not trying to take any of the success from T-Bone, but what he picked up two seasons ago may have had some issues but they weren't terrible and had some good pieces in place. Regardless of what Powers did last season, what he did this season was pretty remarkable.

We are just talking semantics because truth be told a great case could be made for Bone, Powers, Gates, Wrong, and Grave Digger. This is a very tough year because so many GM's did a very good job.

I think it showed go to GM Kirk. It takes a hell of an effort to turn a team that was that good into the steaming pile of shit the Dragons are now. Close runner up in that category would be me.

On a serious note though - I'm going with GM PowPow. The move to steal Gio Hill alone gets him the honors.

I'm going with GM Garcia. He took a team no one expected anything from, with very little talent, and got them within a breath of the playoffs. I hear the argument for Powers, but Powers all told us what he thought about his team at the trade deadline when he dealt Hagan despite the hot start. He didn't believe he could do it this season, so neither should we. Also, the talent level in Michigan was heads above the talent level in Miami...so Garcia had way more ground to make up.

Also, Powers destroyed two franchises last season, and that shouldn't be rewarded either :P

I disagree with the fact trading Hagan counts against him. He got a stud linebacker with term and a pick out of the deal AND didn't have to deal with the Sanderson/Hagan headache anymore. I think it probably actually works for him to have the stones to make that kind of deal.

I agree with Bone about Powers. He might have been my pick until that Hagan trade. For me it's between Bone and Wrong. Both have taken teams that were expected to struggle this year to the playoffs. I lean towards Wrong because of how young that team is and the rookie he has leading it. He's set that team up to be contenders for the next few years as well as having a fantastic season this year.

I don't see the case for Garcia. He entered mid-season and didn't have an offseason to put his stamp on the team. The award is "GM of the Year" not "GM of the 8-or-so games he was there for".

If it was GM for 8 games or so it'd be Jon in a runaway - let's be honest.

I think there was only two games I wasn't in charge for, but I see your point. I think the pre-season does need to be taken into consideration. Also, I didn't really do much other than a couple of questionable trades.

That's exactly my point.  Building the team in the offseason with the draft/free agency is a big component.  Nothing personal to you, but there isn't any GM that wasn't around the full year that I'd ever vote for.

I'll say powers, he was fired after the biggest scandal this league has faced. He was fired from a team he built and went to an a new team that was building from the bottom. He got on there, had a great draft, made some moves and took the biggest chance with signing Hagan knowing he would them sell him off. Though he was fighting for a playoff spot he still sold off Hagan, will be better next season for the picks he got and is in the second round. He pulled a Belichick. Got rid of his best player amidst a playoff push and it didn't affect him.

The firing didn't affect how his players viewed him and that goes to show the respect he has earned among the players int he league.
