Alright, alright... I know you've been waiting for this decision all month. The defending champs have made their choice for GM and we're gonna take Jimmy Walker to lead us to a repeat.

"And repeat we shall do our best to do. Sarah, would you mind asking Coach Stanley to pay me a visit. Would be much obliged."

----

"Coach Stanley, it is a pleasure to finally get to meet you. Now, this has been a successful organization long before I ever was offered the position of General Manager and a lot of that is thanks to yours, and your staffs, leadership and instruction. With that said there are a few things I would like to ask of your. The first would be an honest evaluation of your staff, and if you are content with who you are working with currently. And the second would be what you feel is the best policy moving forward in regards to our catcher, David Wozniak, and our young second basemen in Troy Hankins. I have my eye on a free agent or two that we could make room for in regards to the position of catcher. As for Troy, is it merely a matter of needing more playing time? Or would he be better suited working with the minor league affiliate to get some seasoning on him?"

We have one of the best staff ensembles in the league. No sense in breaking up a championship formula, baby! If you have a replacement for Woz, then that's fine, but I'd find at least some room for him on the reserve roster as he has that experience in my system. Hankins just needs some time to develop, but we have no minor league affiliate after they became defunct after S3.

"Forgive me, I meant the reserve roster not the minor leagues. My apologies on that. Anyhow, if you're comfortable with Woz then so am I. Our scouts identified a solid defensive catcher, who doesn't have a great bat, as a potential catcher for us. But, again, if you're comfortable with Woz then we'll keep him.

When it comes to Hankins I think we'll just have to find some at bats and some playing time for him throughout the season when we can. Looking forward to this first season with you all. Is there anything you feel needs addressed right away? Otherwise I'm just going to do my due diligence in regards to scouting before we move on to free agency."

By all means if you think another catcher works, that's fine. I just think we should keep Woz at least as a back-up. Other than that, looking forward to seeing this guys in the preseason.

"Hello, and thank you all for joining me today as we look forward to embarking on a new season with the Jacksonville Hammerheads. I'm quite privileged to be taking over such a talented roster and am well aware of the expectations that come with overseeing a franchise with the reputation that the Hammerheads have. I embrace the challenge of building upon the foundation of success that has been laid before I was hired, and hope to bring even greater glory to this franchise. Now, I'm sure you all have questions so lets get to them, shall we?"

"We don't feel threatened by anyone. But if I had to pick a team that I feel has the potential to be a distant second record wise, I would say Tokyo simply because of the culture they've built there in spite of their poor performance last season."

"Howdy everyone, lets get right to your questions."

Talk about how you feel spring training went. Who impressed you the most? Who did you feel under-performed?

"I think by the time spring training concluded our lineup in general was performing well. It was good to see Hankins get some at bats and handle himself positively. But top to bottom I'd say I'm pretty happy with how we hit the ball. As for underperformance, again it's spring training. You've got guys out there just trying to get into a rhythm, maybe testing out some things, so I'm not too concerned with anything. I'd like to see our pitching be a little bit more consistent but at this point in the year I'm not worried about it."

Are you going to make any roster changes before the first series of the season?

"Not at this time, no."

As the season gets underway, where do you project this team to finish in the standings?

"Listen, this is a veteran team who understands what it takes to win. I'm not in the business of making projections as to where we're going to finish in the standings. We care about where we finish when the playoffs are done."

Talk about your first opponent and the key to beating them in the three-game series.

"We've got Boise in our first series and we're looking forward to it after the way we performed against them in spring training. We're thinking of it as an opportunity to show them there's a big difference between spring ball and when the games count. In order to do that, though, we're going to actually have to put the damn bat on the ball against these guys. But make no mistakes, we're ready for to kick off the season. Got those magnetic calendars ready for the fans and we're looking forward to it just as much as they are."

"You're not wrong but that doesn't need to be said in front of the media who would twist that into something it isn't intended to be. Really I think our bats looked good enough in spring training, but I'm a touch concerned about the way our pitching looked. Still, things seemed to settle down a bit in the latter half of our  spring games.

Anyone take any noticeable steps forward or backward over the course of spring ball that you noticed?"

Look, I get it's spring training and all. I just don't want us to fall into an early funk because we won it all last season. I don't take that much stock into spring results and how the guys performed, for the most part, but there were a few red flags like Patino struggling at the plate. But guys like Beltran really showed up and is ready to his game to the next level. So it wasn't all bad. I think the pitching got off to a rocky start, but like you said, it started to improve towards the end, which is a good sign. I guess we really won't know until we see how we do in a three game set.

1. Talk about opening week. What did you take away from it?

"We've got a long way to go if we have any intentions on being a championship team this season."

2. Any news stories stick out to you this week?

"Obviously the PED accusations are going to raise eyebrows. But unfounded accusations go nowhere with me. If you want to convince me that a guy like Cruz is using, bring me actual, tangible evidence. Don't just point at a guy having a fantastic weekend and say that he has to be using. Prove it."

3. Do you think there is PEDs in the game right now?

"Sure. I think it would be foolish to think that there aren't players who are using PEDs. Guys are always going to seek ways to get an advantage especially if it leads to them keeping their job, or to seeing a substantial increase in the money coming into their pockets. Right now it's just one of those things that we just have to grit our teeth and deal with until we find a way to bring it to a halt."

4. Talk about your opponent this week. What will you have to improve to take the series?

"What will we have to improve? Everything. We're going to need to pitch better. Hit better. Field better. Run better. Basically do everything better than we did against Boise. Early in this season this is a must win series for us and I expect the guys to come out and play like it."

“It wasn’t good, that’s for sure. So let’s talk what we can do to make sure it doesn’t happen again. The fact that Shane hit below 200 from the leadoff spot, and Morales hasn’t managed a hit yet at the bottom of the order, hurts. How would Hankins hold up if we had him playing at shortstop?”

It could be a liability, he doesn't have the strongest arm and doesn't have a lot of experience from short.
