Oh I bet it is.

Now I know the news this week spoke of potential repricussions for your display, and I just wanted to let you know personally that I don’t plan to fine or suspend you for it. Like I said, I like the fire and the spirit. If the league asks, you were just readjusting your jock, right?

Well gosh gee willikers! GM Mark, you have made Elk nation proud thus far. We are in the meat and spuds of things for the Premier Cup, but it appears we have a battle on our hand as the division and playoff race is tight. Our ERA is top 5, so we’re doing fine there, but we need to improve that dastardly OBP. You’ve made smart decisions, bringing in young talent and you have our trust. May the spuds be with you.

—————

Kara, coach Farley please.

—————

Coach, in the event Estrada doesn’t get moved, is there anything we can do to try and get his bat back on track? Some extra cage time? A tweak to his stance? Anything to help him get out of this funk.

Well damn.

The only other thing I thought of, would be to give him time off in the field and just have him DH. But that would also mean Thorpe entering and playing second base with Mest and Santiago both on the bench.

It's something we could try if you want, but I'm not confident his issue is playing the field that is keeping his bat so silent.

I’m just waiting to hear back on some potential deals before we get rolling. So I will let you head to practice.

1. Discuss the latest series. What went right, what went wrong?

We got off to a slow start to the series coming out of the all star break, but after that first game we really showed what we were all about. Witte continues to have a good season for us and Wisnoski pitched a damn fine game. Our offence came to play those last two games and we managed to keep pace with the rest of the league in the standings. So to answer your question, what went well? Winning those last two games the way we did. What went wrong? Letting Steve Blood get the better of us the first game.

2a. What are your thoughts on the Ricky Cruz trade? (Question does not apply to Mexico City/Austin)

It was big no doubt. Sometimes those kinds of deals can be made out of desperation from one side or another. Who knows what the reasoning for the trade was on both sides. Time will tell if it was a good move for those two teams.

3. Talk about at least one other piece of news.

London is having a great season and to see Noll go down like that has got to be hard for them. It could be a big blow to their season, losing one of their best pitchers.

Also, how about those strikeouts? At a time when everyone is salivating over offence, it’s always nice to recognize those strikeouts and outstanding performances.

4. Talk about your Week 11 opponent.

We travel to take on Albuquerque. They are a team in a bit of a flux but we can’t look past them, we have to keep playing the same kind of baseball we have been and just keep cracking away at the distance between us and those ahead of us.

Damn straight we do. We were able to make some up this past weekend and this is a chance to continue that.

As you saw we didn’t make any trades at the deadline - nothing was out there that wouldn’t have hurt us more going forward. With that said I’m thinking I might take a look at some free agents...maybe gives us a different look somewhere or just some better bench options. Thoughts?

Who knows. Maybe it’s best to leave things as is and not tinker with them too much.

I don’t foresee any changes coming up for the Roadrunners. I think we’ve got things the way we want them.

WEEK ELEVEN

1. Discuss the latest series. What went right, what went wrong?

Well, we won two of the three games so that is a plus. The whole series was kind of marred with the injuries we suffered. Losing Jorge, Jayden and Jeremy to injury is a big blow, and for it all to come in one series...it stings. I feel for the players, they were all playing well and contributing to this team. It’s never good to see players having to hit the shelf.

As for the series, we hit a rough patch that second game but we rebounded in the third game to seal the series in comeback fashion. If there’s one thing this team doesn’t do, is give up. We might have had some bad luck, but this team kept fighting. And we will keep fighting. For the playoffs, for Boise, and for the injured players.

2. Was the cycle by Alex Morales the most impressive thing this season thus far?

A cycle is always exciting and impressive. If it wasn’t, we would see a lot more of them. The fact that there are so many games played and we don’t see them every week tells you how impressive a feat it was. Has it been the most impressive? If it hasn’t, it’s right up there in the conversation.

3. Talk about at least one other piece of news.

What’s been happening in Austin has been odd for sure. First Digger trades away Cruz, then he forces an injured pitcher to pitch...and now he’s got people questioning his dedication to his team. Now, I’m not going to stand here and throw stones, it’s just been an eye opening series of events.

4. Talk about your Week 12 opponent.

London. They’ve been a beast this season and, like us, are dealing with some injuries. We will have to figure out the best way to play them in order to take some games away from them. The way we fight, we should be able to, and now it’s just a matter of going out there and doing it.

Seeing Jorge go down for the rest of the season... followed by Jayden and then Fedorchak. I feel sick to my stomach. This won't be easy to recover from.

It’s a kick right to the testicles, Coach. I feel bad for those guys because they were doing well and are key cogs of our team.

Now we’ve got a bit of a mess to clean up and fix to get us sorted with a complete roster. Some of the moves I’ve contemplated are easy enough but I wanted to ask you about one in particular which may or may not lay the groundwork for the rest of them.

Wisnoski hasn’t fared well this season, that’s obvious. So with Witte and Coggins pitching so well I wondered about maybe calling up Ruffini. I don’t know how much of a look you’ve had at him this season so I don’t know if he’s be the best option, but swapping those two would give us the chance to call up some others to help fill the gaps for the time being.

Sounds good coach.

I’m still not sure which route I want to go personnel wise, or how to make the money work, but I’m thinking in an ideal world our starters would look something like:

C Manny Diaz
1B Tyler Braswell
2B John Thorpe
3B Chris Varela
SS Rafael Estrada
LF Giovani Merico
CF Harry McCoubrey
RF DeMario Santiago
DH Dave Mest

Would you agree with that or do you see someone else on the reserves you’d rather have as a starter?

I think that’s our best starting 9 if you can make it work. David Scott has some potential though, might be a good time to see what he can do for us? We might need guys like Scott and Ruffini to help in the stretch run.

That’s a fair point. In fact coach, I might be able to work it out where we can call up Scott and Warner from our reserves. See what we’ve got in them anyways, whenever they do get into a game.

Still got to double check but what would you say to these line ups.

Vs RH
1. McCoubrey
2. Estrada
3. Braswell
4. Merico
5. Diaz
6. Mest
7. Thorpe
8. Scott
9. Santiago

With a bench of Varela, Londono, Warner and Hudgins

Vs LH
1. McCoubrey
2. Estrada
3. Braswell
4. Merico
5. Hudgins
6. Diaz
7. Mest
8. Varela
9. Thorpe

With a bench of Scott, Londono, Warner and Santiago.

If you want to start Hudgins, that's fine. But I wouldn't have him hitting in the 5 spot. I'd knock him down to the 7 or 8. Outside of that, it looks good.

The Hudgins start was just so that left handed hitting Santiago wasn’t facing a lefty. If you feel Santiago is capable against a lefty we can leave Hudgins on the bench.

What I think I will do then is leave the lineups the same just swap out the players. Which means the bottom of our lineup against lefties will go

5 Diaz
6 Mest
7 Thorpe
8 Varela
9 Hudgins

Keep things relatively the same.

Of course these moves would also have Ruffini as our #2 starter and while we wouldn’t do anything to our bullpen we would likely be releasing one of our reserve relievers.

1. Discuss the latest series. What needs to improve, if anything?

We were unable to win the series but that might not be too unexpected given all the changes we made. London is a good team so it wasn’t a given we were going to walk in there easily but we have then a fight each game and at least came away with the one win. Not ideal but better then nothing. We have it our all and came up just short but another week of working together and this team will be rocking.

2. What are your thoughts on the league punishments thus far? Fair or unfair?

They seem fair to me. There’s not much of a precedent before this season to compare to, so we can’t look at each individual incident against the past. What I do like is that the league is taking action at times like this, and not just waiting until things blow up.

3. Talk about at least one piece of news.

Prank gone wrong in Omaha. Always a tricky thing to pull off especially if the team isn’t performing well. Some might not take to kindly to it which is what seems to have happened. Hopefully they are able to get things righted there.

4. Talk about your Week 13 opponent.

We travel to Chicago. The Mafia has had its trouble with the bullpen so hopefully they haven’t fixed that yet. We are going to have to play our best to turn around after that series loss, but I know we can do it.

We're battling out there, but fell a little short. I thought Ruffini was brilliant in his first start though. If he pitches like that each week, we'll win the series more then we won't.

I couldn’t agree more, Coach. Ruffini really looked great so if he keeps that up we’re golden. And we didn’t get our asses handed to us by London which is great to see given all our changes.

And we came out with no injuries, so that’s a win.

Now for our next series I don’t plan to change anything. Going to give these new changes some time to sink in. Maybe after our series against Chicago we can fiddle with the line up or something.

Todd, fantastic start. I know we threw you right into the thick of things, and you answered brilliantly. I can’t wait to see what you do for an encore.

It was an awesome experience and can't wait to take the mound again. This is only the beginning, boss.

1. Discuss the latest series. What was your favorite moment of the series?

We went 2-1 again which is great for keeping us ahead of the rest and for keeping us in the thick of the race. My favourite moment was watching Coggin throw that complete game. It’s been an evolution of him this season watching him from week one on and seeing how much better he gets each week out. Least favourite moment was watching Witte leave early but it doesn’t look like that’s a long term worry. Rafael Estrada had a good series which is great. He’s had his struggles but with him looking to have turned a corner, should help us down the stretch run.

2. Do you think PBL.com had the award winners right?

They are in the ballpark right now. There’s still a lot of games left so things could change but I feel like they have the right names out there to start.

3. Talk about at least one other piece of news.

It seems like GM Gooch hasn’t had a fair shake in Tokyo. Maybe it’s just me but it seems like they’ve been at his throat since day one and now news leaks that the fans wish GM Kirk was back...the man who walked away from the team...I’m not sure what Tokyo’s going to do.

4. Talk about your Week 14 opponent.

Golden State. One of the top teams in the league so it’s going to be a tough test but also a good test for us. It will be a series that shows the rest that we can hang with the best and that we belong in the thick of the playoff race as we have been all season long. I know this team is ready for that challenge and we will show that with a fantastic series.

We definitely are. I’m proud of what we’ve been doing and how this team has responded to all the injuries.

Speaking of, it looks like Fed and Witte are both out another day. I’m going to leave Fed on the injured list for this series, but my main question is with Witte. Will he be good to go for his turn in the rotation?
