That's fair - I understand. I don't think I have anything more so I'll let you get back to it.

Mike Ray please.

Mike, just wanted to check in and see how things are going? You're having a heck of a season so far.

Feel like I've improved every season and man, it's good to be on a team that has a focus on winning a championship. Hitting around guys like Pizzo and Figgy, makes me appear better than I probably am.

It’s humbling watching from the dugout and I’m hungry to go out there and prove my worth in the lineup.

1. Discuss the latest series.
It's our first series lost. We knew San Diego would put forth a strong effort and they manage to take a couple and really push us. We had chances that we didn't capitalize on but we rallied at the end of the series, almost literally, to salvage a game. That adversity is going to help us going forward.

2. Talk about at least one piece of news.
I admire the work GM Talon did to promote the Coast to Coast series. I think there's a propensity to lose sight of the fact that part of the job is keeping fans vested in your team and I think he did a great job in really bringing Virginia Beach to the forefront.

3. With the creativity some teams have explored such as starting your ace in Game 3 and using an "opener" approach. If you've used one of those strategies, will you continue them? If you haven't, will you start? Why and why not?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

4. Talk about your opponent this week. Which one of the games is the most important to win for your team?
We play one of the best teams in the league this week. I think this is the sort of series you get up for and it allows us to really take stock of where we are and what we need to do to make a run at the championship.

For sure - I know we talked about having some continuity but I do think adding a bat to our lineup is necessary. We're losing a lot of low-scoring games where I think one big hit would make a big difference.

It would be beneficial if we could find an upgrade over Kaminsky and Fasulo. Both are young guys who will get better over time, Kaminsky especially.

For sure - Kaminsky's spot was where I was most inclined to look. Fasulo's glove has some value I think for our team and we've played fairly well defensively and he's a big part of that. With Flores' injury we'll need a replacement arm in the pen. Edwards looked good in the spring and I think he deserves the first shake at it. Agreed?

Ok - are we comfortable with Tirado coming in for Kaminsky for a week or two based on our discussion to make the salary work. I'm thinking Kaminsky and Flores go down while Armstrong and Edwards come up to keep us complaint with the cap.

1. Discuss the latest series.
Ugly. We had a couple bad innings in the first two games and then in the finale we were just ready for the series to be over. That's a team we have to be able to play with if we want to win the title at the end of the year and we showed this week we weren't there yet.

2. Talk about at least one piece of news.
I'm sad to see GM Kirk go. He's a great executive and I think was a smart hire by Tokyo. He always puts together great teams and while he's a little brash with the media I think fans have to respect the success he's had. I do hope that he takes some time away and returns with the same fire he had previously.

3. Will you be a buyer, seller or stay put as trade deadline approaches?
We're going to try and make this team better every day. That's how we operate philosophically.

4. Talk about your upcoming series.
We've got to strap on our boots so to speak and rebound after Golden State. I think thats incumbent on us. If we do so - we'll stand a good chance.

Yes - but it makes the move we're about to make a little easier to swallow. I'm adding some Championship winning pedigree to the team and while I think it cost us a lot for the future, in spite of our performance last week this is a championship worthy team.

Yep - how do you see our lineup shaking out - more positionally where does Tafolla fit? I'm thinking Blood sits for now with Martin back up and Weeks, Cohen and Flores are fighting for the two back end of our bullpen unless we can make another move.

I'd have the lineup like this, but you can have your input as well.

1. Tafolla - RF
2. Roman - DH
3. Pizzolato - 2B
4. Ray - LF
5. Figgy - C
6. Martin - CF
7. Fasulo - SS
8. Harris - 1B
9. Bumbrey - 3B

I appreciate it Skip. I think we've had some struggles with the bats so at least this week I want to try and keep our bats in the lineup. I know Roman hasn't gotten much work at 3rd but that's our hole right now so let's slot him there. Let's move him over to first and pull Harris for Bumbrey late in the game after we get through Harris' spot if we've got he lead. 7th inning or later.

1. Fernando Tafolla RF
2. Andreas Pizzolato 2B
3. Mike Ray LF
4. Luis Figueroa C
5. Armando Roman 3B
6. Adrian Harris 1B
7. Jake Martin CF
8. Steve Blood DH
9. George Fasulo SS

I]1. Discuss the latest series.
I guess you could say we’re on a little mini-slump. The biggest thing for me was that some of our new additions had good weeks and that’s always tough when you’re integrating new players into the team. We had opportunities in both games that we lost but again, it seems to be just one inning that gets away from us and causes our issues. I think we lock that down we’re in great shape.

2. Talk about at least two pieces of news.
I think you saw some teams make moves, us included, in advance of the trade deadline to get an extra week with those guys. We loved adding Taffolla to the top of our lineup – he really sets the table for our guys in the heart of the order and I think his on base skills are really going to be a boon for us down the stretch. The home-run derby is always something I enjoy and I want to congratulate Pizzy for his performance – obviously he came up a bit short but he went up there with a couple of the best in the league and held his own.

3. Who do you think got an All-Star game snub?
I think Mike Ray deserved a nod but you didn’t really want to see the Roar take on the Coastal Conference.

4. What was your favorite part of All-Star weekend?
The homerun derby. I think the raw power exhibition is something to really get excited about. I know the fans love it and it gives you a chance to really see the talent of our hitters in this league.

5. How would you grade yourself at the midseason point?
B+. I think some of our off-season moves have panned out and we made a big move to get Tafolla but obviously the losing skid we’re on is wearing on us coming out of the break. We’ve set ourselves up to really control our own fate down the stretch – we just really need to be play good baseball and keep ourselves in position to win.

6. Who is your midseason MVP?
Hard to argue with Ricky Cruz. I think a shout-out should go to Salvadore Patino though who’s really led a resurgent Jacksonville over the past 5 weeks.

7. Talk about your Week 10 opponent.
Again – I think the focus is on us. We might have one more move up our sleeves but otherwise this is the team we have going forward and we need to look to build the momentum going forward in the latter half of the year to see ourselves up come playoff time.

For sure - I thought Roman handled third with relative aplomb so I'm loathe to change that there unless we make a move. I've got one iron in the fire but outside of that I truly think this is our team. Cohen blew up again though and wanted to check in to see if you felt we had a better option down the stretch internally.

My apologies for the delay ...

1. Discuss the latest series. What went right, what went wrong?
We blew a couple leads and that hurts. We need to get back to taking care of business at the end of games. It's as if our focus is lapsing slightly and we're losing an inning or two that are costing us games and have now cost us first place in the division.

2a. What are your thoughts on the Ricky Cruz trade? (Question does not apply to Mexico City/Austin)
I'm not really concerned about what trades other teams make at the moment. Cruz is a great player but that's not the only thing you consider when you make trades, at least not here in Thunder Bay.

3. Talk about at least one other piece of news.
I think the GS Chicago game was a highlight for me. I love a pitching duel and this one was a bit different than some other ones.

4. Talk about your Week 11 opponent.
We need to step up - there's some cracks in the dam right now and without shoring that up we're going to regret our performance in the dog days of Summer.

Not playing our best right now, but we still have a 3 game lead in the division and a 1 game lead in the conference. But we need to get out of this slump we're in. London won't be easy, but without Noll, we have the pitching advantage. Just need the bats to start producing like they were earlier in the season.

Just depends on who you want to call up in his place. Edwards is our best arm on the reserves, but he didn't pan out well last time. And I'd honestly rather ride with Cohen then go with Bravo. Maybe we try looking into the free agent pool if you really want to give him a week off?

I'd consider it skip but Bravo's been a hand for us all year. I hate to go to market for someone without exhausting internal options first. I just think it hurts us long run. I'll make the move and then we should be good to go for the week.

1. Discuss the latest series. What went right, what went wrong?
We managed to get two of three and our bullpen for the most part held up. I think if we play a lot of baseball like that down the stretch we’ll really find ourselves in a good position. Tafolla’s looked really good at the top of our line up and I think Steve Blood’s had some timely hits which has been really good for us. I think game two the rails came off a little early but games like that happen and I know Phil’s going to bounce back and give us a great start this week.

2. Was the cycle by Alex Morales the most impressive thing this season thus far?
I don’t know – I think Bill Moore’s streak at the start of the year where he dominated and didn’t get the win in any of those starts was more impressive strictly from a numerical perspective. In terms of an individual accomplishment though it’s definitely impressive.

3. Talk about at least one other piece of news.
I think GM Digger did himself a massive disservice sending an injured player out. It worked out in the end but I think the long term consequences are going to be a huge hit to him. I know in Thunder Bay our players are of the utmost importance and we try and make there success and health is really equal to our desire to win a championship.

4. Talk about your Week 12 opponent.
We’ve got Austin and I really think we’ve got a chance to take the series especially given the way we played last series. I know that Upson is rumoured to potentially be out this week but given GM Digger’s current tactics we will be prepared to face him if they have to wheel him out to the mound in a chair.

Just when I thought Tafolla was starting to turn his season around at the plate... he'll be missed this week, but should be able to go in the next series. But hey, we got a series win against a tough London team and hopefully we can build off that momentum back into our winning ways.

Can we make sure he doesn't play by just sticking Kaminsky in RF or do we need to stick him on IR and hold him off for 2 weeks. I don't want an Austin scenario here.

Sounds good. Let's take it to Austin this series.

Phil Helton please Demi.

Phil, just wanted to reiterate my comments to the press that I've got supreme confidence you'll rebound this week. I know last week wasn't the results you wanted but it happens, that's baseball, and wanted to commend you for your overall performance so far this year.

Just means Austin is in trouble, because there is no way that happens to me in back to back games.

WEEK TWELVE

1. Discuss the latest series. What needs to improve, if anything?
Any time you can sweep an opponent that’s what you’re hoping for. We did a good job, our bats came through in a big way in a couple games and our pitching in the other locked them down. That’s the kind of performance we’ve been looking for all year and really serves us well heading down the stretch.

2. What are your thoughts on the league punishments thus far? Fair or unfair?
I tend not to comment on the league discipline for other teams players. As long as it stays equitable that’s not on me to judge.

3. Talk about at least one piece of news.
We had Adrian take a step back for a week and since then he’s done a really good job in the batters box for us. I think that’s something that people have to remember is that baseball’s a hard game and for a rookie to make an adjustment for the pro’s isn’t going to necessarily be like in other sports where they’re a star from the first moment. That hard work, dedication, and commitment to the craft is a big reason I think that he’ll be an elite player in the future for us and a solid contributor at present.

4. Talk about your Week 13 opponent.
Another big series for us – we’d like to make teams come north come playoff time so we need to keep stacking wins together. I think if we play the same way we did last series we’ll stand a good chance.

That sweep was exactly what we needed. We've got that stranglehold back for that top seed in the conference again.

Agreed - and with Flores and Tafolla back we're healthy too. I don't think there's much else to take care of, yeah?
