Thanks - I appreciate it. If you could get me John Oswalt that'd be great.

John, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm GM Metro and the new general manager of this team. I wanted to start really getting into what we had and you're my first call. I want your opinion of the status of the organization; managers, coaches and the direction of the team, as well as your baseball philosophy.

Sir, pleasure to meet you. I prefer playing conventional baseball and small ball. Getting on base and taking advantage of a bad catcher, but playing smart on the basepaths. Playing strong, sure defense. As a organization we are sitting better than others. We have good fans and a great young team. Should be poised for a postseason run this season. As for the rest of my staff, we have Dustin Neill who has been a really good hitting coach, someone Ive learned a little under as well as teaching him some things. We compliment each other very well. Chris Brand is still getting better as a pitching coach, under my tutelage. He focuses on power pitching and getting punch outs. Does that answer everything?

It does - but I do want to challenge the assessment of a great young team. Look at the stats from last year I do see some guys coming into their primes that performed well but last year we got a lot of production from Sisto and Vas

Sorry - had to catch my breath. We got a lot of production from Sisto and Vasquez on the sticks, and Larson and Pierce on the bump and none are on the proverbial right side of 30. Are you seeing a lot of progression from other guys when you say a post-season run? Or is it more that we're going to be fighting for a playoff spot?

I'm high on Figgy, Ray, and Pizzy are all getting better and should continue to. Our rookie Harris is going to be a fine player with us as well. As will Correa and Kaminsky. We have some youth we can definitely build around. As for our pitching staff, Larson has entered his prime to go along with Helton who is looking strong going into the season. Edwards isn't a bad number 3, but that's a spot Marshall will take up, maybe as early as this season. No doubt we're a playoff team right now boss in a pretty wide open division for the taking.

Fair enough - with Pizzalato looking entrenched at second - what's Correa look like at SS or elsewhere on the diamond? Or is Pizzaloto capable of playing elsewhere? I'd even extend the same question to other players on the roster, who's capable of playing another position, and which one if so?

Manny Diaz can play a little at first, but not that great.  Ryan Correa can play short or third, once again, not that great. Pizzalato can some decent first base. Savage is good at short, second, and third. Ray can play all three outfield positions, but is best in left. Sisto is also best in left, but can play in center and also has some expierence playing second and third too. Kaminsky is best in right field, but can play all three outfield positions plus a little at second too. Jake Martin is great at any one outfield spot, plays all three about the same. Omar is great in right, not so much in left or center though.

Sounds good - it gives me a lot to consider when putting together a game plan as we head towards spring training. How have the past couple of drafts looked for us?

S1 we had only one pick and selected outfielder, Ben Dixon. S2, we drafted Bryan Haggar, a pitcher. Both of them are free agents who we lost when the minor league system went under. S3 we drafted Mizzolato, Diaz, Kaminsky, Martin, who are all on the team. And also Mike de los Rios, who is a free agent. S4 we drafted Armstrong, Warrington, who are on the team. We also drafted Brill, a free agent outfielder. And you know our S5 draftees.

Ok. Is there anyone there you're particularly fond of and would like to see return? I am thinking of releasing the following players: Manny Diaz, Danny Ayala, Frank Fowler, Keith Gaugler, Jaden Savage and Omar Tirado and that would clear some roster room.

I'd probably hold on to Tirado, Diaz, and Gaugler unless you know you have people that can fill those voids. Up to you. I coach the players you provide me with.

I'm happy to be here in front of you all today - welcoming everyone to another season of Roar baseball. I think we've got a solid team here and there's a lot to be excited about with this coming season. I know there was some consternation caused about the trades over the off-season but it takes two to tango; we wish Ryan Correa and Manny Diaz the best in their new cities but felt that sacrificing some organizational depth to address a couple of needs in our starting lineup was important for this franchise going forward.

Any questions?

You received a lot of backlash for trading away Manny Diaz for what some might say, a washed up relief pitcher. How do you respond to that?

I think we have a lot of faith in our team. With Figgy and Harris at Catcher and 1st respectively at bats were going to be hard to come by for Manny and this gives him a great opportunity to play. We also noticed last year that our relievers by the end of the year were fatigued or had some rough outings and so building pen depth was a goal this off-season to make sure we're not in that position going forward.

1. Talk about how you feel spring training went. Who impressed you the most? Who did you feel under-performed?
I thought Isaac Marshall had a great spring - he accquitted himself quite well for a rookie. John Edwards was also great for us and we've got a lot of pitching depth this season which I think will be key for us. Adrian Harris had some struggles at the plate but he took some good hacks. We know what kind of hitter he is and once he gets settled in against pro's he'll be a good bat for us.

2. Are you going to make any roster changes before the first series of the season?
I think we'll look at who gives us the best chance to win and get the season started on the right foot.

3. As the season gets underway, where do you project this team to finish in the standings?
Talking with our coaching staff at the start of the off-season we figured we'd compete for the division. I think that's a reasonable goal with the talent and depth that we have.

4. Talk about your first opponent and the key to beating them in the three-game series.
I think getting in front early is going to be important. With our pitching depth I think we're going to be looking at getting ahead early and then letting our bullpen lock it down.

Very important. You establish the tone early it gives you momentum through the dog days of summer. It makes it a little easier to manage situations when you've started out strong and aren't playing from behind all year.

Agreed - I'm thinking the 3 hole might have been too much, too soon for Harris. I'm thinking we go Ray 3, Figgy 4, Harris 5 and Roman 6 at the start of the year and let him find his groove.

I think that sounds good. And if his bat starts getting hot, we can move up higher up if we want.

For sure - that's the idea. Let him get on a roll and then move him up. Anything else we need to discuss this week?

1. Talk about opening week. What did you take away from it?
We played some really good baseball. Hitting, pitching, defense. Total team effort to sweep the series.

2. Any news stories stick out to you this week?
I imagine Tuffy Rhodes or Chris Shelton would have something to say about Ricky Cruz's performance. I think you'll have players have good weeks and some games where just nothing goes right. It tends to even itself out over the course of a long season and that's the great thing about baseball.

3. Do you think there is PEDs in the game right now?
I'm sure there's someone doing it. When there's this much money and fame on the line you're going to attract desparation. I do believe the game is the cleanest it has ever been however and it's not something that keeps me up at night.

4. Talk about your opponent this week. What will you have to improve to take the series?
I think it's going to be big to get some key outs in the middle of their order late in games. Cohen and Flores did a good job this past series of locking down leads and I think that's going to be key again.

Agreed. Sorry for slipping on the Harris move. I was excited to start the season but it worked out okay for us. I don't want us to get too over-confident though. How do Cohen and Flores look this week? Any fatigue concerns? We built up some bullpen depth to make sure those arms stay fresh.

No fatigue concerns with Flores and Cohen. They'll be fresh for the weekend series.

That's good. I don't really have anything else then, I'll let you get back to it.

Andres Pizzolato please.

Andres, couple great games out there - really powered us in the last game of the series. Just wanted to give you some props for the performance.

That's the idea - I think we're going to make some noise this season. Is there anything you need from me?
