TEAM: TUCSON STARS
« on: September 28, 2018, 02:31:14 PM »

Team Information
City: Tucson, AZ
Conference: West
Division South
Team Owner: Big Al Crowley
Team Secretary: Elizabeth "Liz" Morningstar

Official Colors:

Red (#BF0A30)
Yellow (#FED700)
Blue (#002868)
Starange (#CE5C17)

Team History:
Owned by Arizona bail bondsman, Big Al Crowley, the Tombstone Outlaws got off to a hot start finishing tied with Long Beach for the best record in the league in Season 1 (10-6).  They picked up a 31-24 win over Pearl Harbor to advance to the Conference Championship game, but took a beating in a 32-17 loss to Long Beach. In Season 2 the Outlaws saw a regression, finishing 8-8 which was good enough for the #3 seed in the playoffs but they suffered a 31-13 against eventual champion Las Vegas in the first round of the playoffs.  In Season 3 The once #1 ranked offense in the league hit rock bottom falling all the way to 12th in the rankings.  Averaging only 12 points per game and only 300 yards per game on offense.  The terrible offense lead the team to a league record 1-15 record, the worst season for any team to date. This lead the team to make a drastic change, trading season 1 and 2 league MVP Jose Mackey to the already loaded Alabama Nighthawks for two players, two first round picks (S4 and S5) and a S4 Second Round pick.  The haul immediately paid dividends as the team would go 7-9 to return to the playoffs.
The S4 draft brought several great draft picks to the team to solidify their young core.
number 1 overall pick Curt Robles (RB) was named to the pro bowl and won offensive rookie of the year honors after rushing for 1266 yards and 9 TDs in 13 games. (603 yards receiving for 6TDs)
the final pick in the first round (12) was used on linebacker Steve Wright who won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after he started all 16 games and made 104 tackles with 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack and 2 interceptions. The first pick in the second round was then used on Andrew Espino who started all 16 games for the Outlaws catching 63 balls for 781 yards and 2 touchdowns. They also picked up linebacker Raymond Roby in the 3rd round, Roby started all season as well making 79 tackles and intercepting 1 pass with a return for a touchdown. These pieces, paired with 23 year old former first round draft pick QB Caleb Smoak gives the Outlaws a great young offensive core to build on for the future.  In his first full season as a starter, Smoak threw for 3483 yards for 25 touchdowns with 15 Interceptions.   Smoak is however entering the last year of his contract, giving the new incoming GM a tough decision to make.

After the 2019/Season 10 Season, The Outlaws rebranded as the Tucson Stars, moving two hours north to Tucson, Arizona.

Well here we are, new city, new name, and new colors, but we're still Outlaws deep down inside.

We'll be looking for someone who is unafraid to be bold and take chances to help jump start a rebuild for our once proud franchise.

Ms. Morningstar, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm sure Mr. Crowley will understand if I get straight to work on hiring a Head Coach. With that in mind, can you get me in contact with Foster Diaz?
---
Mr. Diaz, what you have done with the defence in San Antonio is something special and I'd like to see what you can manage when you're running a whole team. Do you have any interest in making the step up to Head Coach?

I was thinking a similar deal to what I had Coach Stark on, 3 years $12MM. You're clealry a very talented coach and I think we can turn this conference on its head together.

I know you will most likely want to focus on the defence, but I wanted to ask how you view your offence before I sign an OC. I have a coach in mind, but I want to make sure he fits what you want to do.

That's the plan. I'll get right to it and we'll talk about your preference for a DC once I have the offence sorted.
---
Ms. Morningstar, I'd like to speak to Trevor Jose.
---
Trevor, first I'd like to congratulate you on your place in the Hall of Fame and your first season as a coach. As I'm sure you know, we're looking for an OC here in Tucson. I'd like to know if you have interest in stepping up so early in your coaching career and what sort of offence you'd like to run.

Hey Kirk, I appreciate the congratulations...

As far as being an offensive coordinator, I'm definitely going to get there one day, but right now I think I'm best suited doing what I'm doing in Miami.

I'll have my eye on your career and you'll get a similar phone call from me sometime down the line. Good luck for the season, unless we see each other at the Impact Bowl of course.
---
Ms. Morningstar, I'd like to speak to Cameron Hollingsworth.
---
Mr. Hollingsworth, I'm looking for an OC to run the offence here in Tucson. I think you did a fantastic job in the early days of Music City and I'd like you to come here and help us build ourselves up as well. How much of the Dragon Fire offence did you see last season? Would something like that fit with your usual style?

Well I love to run the rock, mixing it with short to middle range passes.  Is that what you're looking for?

Usually, that's just how I want to run an offence but we have two home run threats with McIntyre and Spear on our offence. How would you get the most out of them in your offence?

With fast receivers, I like to work on their agility and hands, if they can secure the catch then I believe that you can turn a 6 yard pass into an 80 yard touchdown, and that's what I'd look to do.  Creative route running to open up space to work once you have the ball.

I'll get the contract sent to the league office. There's a lot of work to do here, but I think we can build a winner. I'll let you get settled.
---
Coach Diaz, would you like to go with a more position specific DC or someone who has a broader range of knowledge? I mean, I could bring in a gut who can focus on the secondary or someone who can coach up everyone and let you focus on schemes.

Ms. Morningstar, I'd like to speak to Frosty Murdoch.
---
Mr. Murdoch, I'm GM Kirk from the Tucson Stars. I need a DC for my staff and I'd like to speak to you about the job. I recently signed Foster Diaz as head coach and I'm looking for someone who can work with him to build a dominant, aggressive defence here. I know we're not a big name team yet, but we're going to focus on building a young, dynamic defence to get us there. Would you have interest in coaching here and key qualities do you bring to a team?

My biggest strength is that as a head coach here on a national championship team, I know what it takes to win and not just on the defensive side of the ball.  I know how to manage personalities and keep them in line.

I'll coach here in Tucson, but since its a team trying to build from the ground up, I'd need a good pay day.

I think this team needs a winning mentality from the coaches because they've missed it so long on the field. I'd like to offer you a 2 year deal for $7MM to be our DC. I think there's talent here that needs whipping into shape after switching off the last couple of years and I think you're the guy to do it.

---
Coach Frisk, I'm GM Kirk from the Tucson Stars. I'm looking for a DC to help Coach Diaz turn us into a dominant defence. Can you tell me a bit about how you run a defence and what you can bring to the team?

I've been at S.C. for the past 7 years, and defensively we've built a foundation around a 4-3 concept that works with aggressive play calling, a middle of the pack percentage of blitzing, and a combination of coverage styles.  If I had to pick one though, I'd lean more to the Man coverage over zone.

I work hard to produce talented pass rushers, it's my best quality.

Mike, I want to sign some of your Li-Ning guys for Tucson. I know they're in the NJ camp, but I doubt GM Stark will get much chance to look at them while he gets settled and I wouldn't want them to miss out on the opportunity to join the HIFL this season. Shall I send you over the offer sheets, or do you want to do this one by one?

I don't suppose the last guy left any notes lying around, or maybe you were aware of the guys on our Minor League team? I'd like to use some of them on the main roster if you know of any who could handle it. Being able to use Zook would be useful in particular considering how old and expensive our o-line is at the moment.

Ms. Morningstar, can you get Drew Leventhal on the libe for me, please?
---
Drew, I want to talk about Kenny Johnson. I'm getting a fair bit of interest in him but I see that he has a guaranteed contract. I'm not surprised in the interest, as he's one of our top players, but I think trading him could help us rebuild this team. Would he consider waiving his NTC? If so, are there any teams who he wouldn't want to be traded to?

YOU ARE INFORMED THAT JOHNSON WOULD PLAY FOR ANY TEAM THAT DID NOT FINISH BOTTOM 2 IN THEIR DIVISION LAST SEASON.

GM Kirk, the name is Kelvin Hart!  Lets make a deal and put this negotiation to bed!

You obviously have a good eye for talent, Mr. Hart. I'd like to offer a 4 year deal for $10million and $2million in signing bonus. We'll obviously also be promoting him as one of our key players in PR campaigns.

You got a deal, just make sure everyone thinks I drove a hard bargain.

Of course, and I'm sure you would have if I'd tried to low-ball you. It's a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to doing more business with you in the future. If Christopher is finished jumping up and down with his family, I'd like to see him.

Christopher Boatwright, the #1 overall pick for the Tucson Stars. Welcome to the HIFL and welcome to the Tucson Star. You impressed us at the combine and in your interview and if you keep working as hard as you have until now, we've no doubt you'll be a big player for us.

You made the right choice man! Tucson just got a true Star, and with me catching touchdown passes, we're going to light up the sky!

That's the plan. I'll let you get back to your celebrations, but I have to say we're really excited to see what you can do on a HIFL field. Congratulations and enjoy the rest of draft day.
