Justin York
- 4th in Batting Average (.355)
- 2nd in Runs Scored (56)
- 2nd in Stolen Bases (19)
- 1st in Walks (51)
- 1st in Batter WAR (4.3)

If you don't know what WAR is: WAR measures a player's value in all facets of the game by deciphering how many more wins he's worth than a replacement-level player at his same position

For position players: (The number of runs above average a player is worth in his batting, baserunning and fielding + adjustment for position + adjustment for league + the number of runs provided by a replacement-level player) / runs per win

Obviously, the goal of baseball is to win games, and WAR quantifies each player's value in terms of a specific number of wins. A player with a WAR of 0 is essentially a replaceable piece, while a player with a WAR of about 4+ should almost always be an MVP candidate. And because WAR factors in a positional adjustment, it is well suited for comparing players who man different defensive positions.

I voted (selfishly) for Rich Hess. He is, IMO, the reason that Jacksonville went from being 5 games below 500 to finishing 7 games above. He was clutch down the stretch and without him Jacksonville would not have been anywhere near sniffing the playoffs.

I think that an argument could be made for York, certainly, but he was part of a team that was successful from the jump and while he played his part getting them there, I think without him the Tide are still in the playoffs and still a favorite to win the championship. Take Rich Hess away from the Hammerheads and they were mediocre at best.

I could also see votes for Esco because without him, Brooklyn would have been in real bad shape.

I agree with a lot of that, but just like Brooklyn, not making the playoffs means he wasn't valuable enough.  York's WAR shows that he was the most valuable on a team of valuable players, and this award is for the most valuable of the conference.

I think York's style as a defensive wizard and a lead off man and not a big power hitter who gets the sexy numbers hurts him unfairly, but there are truly plenty of deserving guys in the Coastal, we were loaded this year.

If you need further proof. York is also about to win premier cup MVP. But hey... Vote for the wrong guys

Playoff performance shouldn't be a factor in this discussion tbh. Though if York wins this award I won't be upset about it. I think all three that are options here are deserving.

Further proof. Not the only proof. I've made his case plenty prior to that post.
