"Mr. Oldfield, thank you for submitting your cover letter to me personally.  I appreciate your diligence and detail.  Now, with that being said my history has been littered with winning, however since I started this franchise, named after my fond years as coach of the Puerto Rico Waves in the FBL, we have not been winning.  Based on the current roster where do you start to building this team into a winner?"

With the threadbare nature of the squad, plus whatís left having just a year left, my goal would to bring in a number of young, hungry, determined guys together who I can mould into my own image. Ball handling, scoring, defence, these can be coached. Work ethic, passion, drive and determination canít. Itís these assets I would focus on in the offseason. With such a lot needed during the offseason, you need a hard working GM with an idea he can put together and I believe I am that guy.

"What position, assuming the best player at that position is available, would you draft in the first round?"

I would lean towards the point guard position, as I believe a franchise player there would be something we could build the squad around and is vital for how I would like to play. That being said, if there was a world class player in another position available, I would opt to take them too. This team needs help throughout the court and I would not miss such an opportunity

"Good evening Mr. Oldfield.  It is an absolute pleasure to meet you.  If my dad thinks you're worth hiring then you are good with me.  He is a very special man so I ask that you please turn us into a winner for him.  He has championships as a player and a coach and winning another as the owner of a team would send him to the moon.

...I almost forgot, your contract is 2 years and $2mm per season to be used in the offseason.  The league is currently finalizing things, but in the meantime please feel free to get in contact with our coaches."

Thank you Miss Mcloo, I look forward to aiding your fathers dream. Could you please get me in touch with coach Everhart.

Mr Everhart, delighted to meet you. Keith Oldfield, the newly appointed GM here in Laos Angeles. I wondered if you could start by telling me a little bit about the squad we have left here. I am particularly interested in the history of one Jimmy Moore.

"GM Oldfield, I look forward to working with you and turning this team into a champion.

Largent is who our offense runs through, but in terms of Jimmy, he's a seasoned vet through and through.  He's average around 8 points and 5 rebounds for his career and despite his size is not a shot blocker.  However, his true value is in leadership.  He is as solid a leader as you'll come across."

"I hear ya on that, but you're the personnel guy so that's your decision.  Biggest holes...we need scoring.  Our current roster, outside of Jamal, lacks scoring..severely."

Itís something I will discuss with the player and their representative soon enough.

So letís to discuss you and the coaching staff. I am guessing this is a project your keen to continue with? What do you feel went badly last year? Where does your expertise in coaching lie?

"Actually Mr. McLoo brought me on right after last season ended.  However, in my short time here I've learned just how great of a man he is.  It is my goal to win him a championship.

As far as last year, the team averaged 102 points and allowed 107.  We were the second worst three point shooting team in the league which hurts badly. We were last in team assists which speaks to ball movement issues and we were the worst rebounding team in the league as well."

Those stats highlight how much work we have to do. I like my teams to have big, powerful rebounders at 1 and 2, and interchangeable combo guard types who can really handle the ball. So right now we are far from that.

How about your assistants? What do they excel in and how do they compliment your coaching?

Thatís positive to hear. Iíll bring the clay, you mould it.

Ok coach. So Iím guessing next steps will be the amateur draft. Do we know what position weíre in? Will there be some announcement soon about a draft class?
