USL GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT!
« Reply #1 on: August 31, 2020, 03:30:54 PM »

The United Soccer League has today been approved by the UWFA, Union of World Football Association, and the ASF, All-Amercian Soccer Federation. Biollionaire philanthropist, Maximillion Rutherford has aligned himself with power agent, Douglas Jonker to bring together the splintered and disbanded US & Canadian soccer leagues into one united front. The pair have overseen a complete re-brand of the leagues and an overhaul of the rules, several of which needing to be green-lit from both governing bodies.

Whilst many experts have questioned the integrity of the league, stating it is simply a cash grab for a growing market and destroys the effort other leagues have taken to establish themselves, other experts claim that a united league could help truly solidify the sport within the United States. We are lead to believe that one of the key changes to the league structure is gutting the draft system that is synonimous with US sports, instead opting for a purely financially driven league where players are purchased directly from club to club with agents brokering personal terms still. This will undoutably cause controversy allowing certain clubs to buy their way to success, but it is a format that is successful in European leagues especially and the Englishman Rutherford is aiming to bring his sport to the states.

We have yet to get the full break down of the rules, but we know that the league will be split into two, eight team divisions. Simply numbered, Division One & Division Two. The top four teams in Division One will battle for the United Soccer League Championship, where the bottom team will be relegated, and the next two teams will battle it out to save themselves from relegation. In Division Two, the team that ends the season in 1st place will be crowned divisional champions and secure promotion, whereas the next four teams will face off to win promotion to the top division and have a chance at the Championship the following season. Alongside the two leagues, we know that a USL Cup will take place, which will be a simple knockout tournament spread out through the season.

The season is stated to run from September to June, with the Division 1 champion being crowned in May, and Division 2 champion crowned in June, with the USL Cup Final sandwiched inbetween the two. The split in the fixtures, we are lead to believe, is to ensure focus is split between the leagues, with fans not having to choose which division to watch each weekend.

With only eighteen months until the first season is due to start, we are sure to have more information to follow soon! Stay tuned!

DIVISION ONE TEAMS ANNOUNCED!
« Reply #2 on: August 31, 2020, 03:55:13 PM »

Maximillion Rutherford, and the USL, have today revealed the eight team that will be competing in the USL Division One during its inaugral season. It was announced several weeks ago that owners were bidding on locations, and stadiums, which we are led to believe will be re-branded for each team, some even built from scratch. The most interesting team announced is Olympic City, not because it is should be a financial powerhouse, but due to it's link to co-founder of the league, Douglas Jonker. Olympic owner Alexios Thanas being a board member at Mofokeng Ltd. Doulgas Jonker has gone on record to state that his role in aiding Mr Rutherford, was simply advisory and that he served as more of a introducer to others. The ASL will no doubt be aware of the connection and will be paying attention to the ongoing practice of all parties. With that being said, the following teams have been announced:

Olympic City
Garden of the Gods Arena, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA.

Washington United
Smithsonian National Stadium, Arlington, Virginia, USA.

Jersey City
Liberty State Stadium, Jersey City, Jersey, USA.

Champaign Super Novas
Hessel Park Stadium, Champaign, Illinois, USA.

AC El Paso
Franklin Mountains Stadium, El Paso, Texas, USA.

Puebla City
El Cuexcomate, Puebla de Zaragoza, Puebla, Mexico.

SCO Calgary
Princes Island Stadium, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Salem FC
Seven Gables Stadium, Salem, Oregon, USA.

We are still waiting on news to break regarding the division two teams. Whilst we wait, we're sure fans in these areas who love this sport will be ecstatic to see that they will be represented and will have access to what will surely be an evolutionary step toward establishing soccer as a premier sport in the United States. If you have the time, this writer also advices you research the new owner of Salem FC, the descedent of a family of 'witch hunters' who inherited a small fortune and moved to the wrong Salem. It is quite the story. A recommendation from myself, and not the ASF organisation who deemed it a story not wholly relevant. Either way, more news will be hitting shortly and we will be your first and only source!

DIVISION TWO TEAMS ANNOUNCED! TRANSFER NEWS!
« Reply #3 on: August 31, 2020, 04:09:31 PM »

Following last weeks announcement of the division one teams, the USL was quick to announce which teams will ply their trade in the second division. Several of these teams have taken us all by surprise, primarily for their odd locations and somewhat nichť markets. The owners clearly had strategies in mind to target locations where other sports were not prominant, in attempt to garner the biggest fan base possible from the surrounding area. This could work, but you have to question how sane an owner you are if you are investing in Benton Harbour as the new hot spot of US Soccer. Either way, they have their teams, they have their stadiums, and they will be competing in the USL Second Division this coming September. The following teams were announced:

Benton Harbour
Jean Klock Park Stadium, Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA.

Myrtle Beach
Whispering Pines Stadium, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA.

FC Chihuahua
La Perrera, Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Reno Rangers
Idlewild Park Stadium, Reno, Nevada, USA.

Orange County
Turtle Rock Stadium, Orange County, California, USA.

Wichita Wanderers
Great Plains Stadium, Wichita, Kansas, USA.

CD Santa Clara
Triton Stadium, Santa Clara, California, USA.

Ottawa-Gatineau
Lac Beauchamp Stadium, Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.

Whilst the fans of these areas either rub their eyes in disbelief or clamour to get their hands on the sure to be released soon merchandise, it wasn't the only news that broke today to get them excited. Maximillion Rutherford announced that with the help of several player agents, teams have been slowly building their squads, negotiating for some key players from all around the world. He did not mention any names, but stated we would be bringing global talent of the highest order to the league, a level of talent that United States has never seen before, and a level of diversity no other league in the world can showcase. There is little to go off there, but no doubt we will be hearing of player signings very soon.

USL IN DISARRAY! RUTHERFORD ARRESTED!

USL IN DISARRAY! RUTHERFORD ARRESTED!

United Soccer League owner Maximillion Rutherford has been arrested. The news broke today that the British philanthropist handed himself into police after an arrest warrant was issued for his role in fraudulent activities behind the seasons of the newly United Soccer League. An arrest warrant has also been issued for businessman, Douglas Jonker, but the South African returned to his home country several weeks ago. Jonker and his business Mofokeng Ltd have been linked to several counts of raketeering, laundering, and falsifying documentation. With the USL attracting a growing audience in North America, sponsorship deals and broadcasting contracts were coming in thick and fast, but this has disappeared with the shocking news of Rutherford's role in all of these acquisations. Insiders state that Rutherford is not quite the billionnaire he made himself out to be, with a lot of his alleged fortune actualyl money that was being moved around by Mofokeng Ltd. Not only does this have ramifications for the league as a whole, which has officially entered an embargo, but also the numerous USL South African players who are under contract with Mofokeng Ltd, specifically Olympic City star, Arnoux Raubenheimer.

The investigation also unveiled match fixing allegations directed toward USL Head Coach's, Ben Chavez and Hannes Morath, both of whom were recently fired from their coaching roles at Puebla City and Washington United, respectively. ASL has confirmed they will be investigating the matter further, but they rumours suggest the two coaches face a lengthy ban from all football activities. Both instances of match fixing are rumoured to have occured in the USL's first season, and happened before the ASF began scrutinising the acitivities of Rutherford and Mofokeng Ltd, which has led many to connect the two activities and wonder if this will snowball into further accusations and instances of illegal activities at the hands of the two men that created the USL from scratch.

We'll keep you informed as soon as the news breaks! The future of the USL does not look promising!

USL HAS A NEW OWNER! CHAVEZ & MORATH SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY!
« Reply #10 on: September 12, 2020, 02:11:46 PM »

USL HAS A NEW OWNER!

The ASF have today finalised the sale of the United Soccer League to Las Vegas based businessman, Angus King, owner of the King-Maker MMA network of gyms. The Scotsman is known for his feiry temper, but astute business acumen and he saw the recent problems the USL has undergone as a great oppurtunity to expand his influence upon the sports industry in North America. The ASF managed to get a short interview with man in question, here are a few quotes from our short discussion.

On League Purchase

"I was keeping m'eye on what happened with that poncy Rutherford bloke, the wee shite has a god awful reputation in the UK so it came as no suprise that he got taken for a ride by that South African crimelord. I'm a big soccer fan, grew up playing it, dreaming of being out on the field maself so to get the chance to not only be involved in the sport but to own a league like the USL? It was an opporutunity I could'nae take. We'll re-brand the whole thing though, I don't want Rutherford's stink lingering when we kick things off again."

On delays to season start and changes to league structure.

"A lot of that will come from the ASF office heads, my team has suggested some of the changes we would like to make alongside some of the connections we have built through King-Maker's network, which is global these days. I believe we got some great ideas, stuff that will re-invent the league, re-invent the sport and make this the Ultimate sport in the US, mate, that's the plan anyway."

The takeover of the USL will be fully finalised over the next couple of days, and with Rutherford's arrest and the resignation of several board members, Angus King has truly saved it from collapsing completely. The ASF has been quiet on the new restrictions it inteads to place on the league to ensure such corruption never occurs again, but this will likely be revealed shortly after the takeover is fully complete. As we stand, players and coaches that are contracted to the USL and the attached clubs are still tied to those contracts.

CHAVEZ & MORATH SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY!

In other news, coaches Hannes Morath & Ben Chavez have both been suspended indefinetly by the ASF and have been told to cease any involvement in North American soccer. Both coaches are said to have landed undeclared roles in the South African football system. We have reached out to both men, and Mofokeng Ltd, but both have declined to comment. As it stands, with coaches suspended, and Rutherford arrested, Mofokeng Ltd has gone largely unpunished.

ULTIMATE SOCCER LEAGUE IS HERE! LEAGUE CHANGES UNVEILED! SA PLAYERS SUSPENDED!
« Reply #11 on: September 13, 2020, 08:38:58 AM »

ULTIMATE SOCCER LEAGUE IS HERE!

Following the fallout of Maximillion Rutherford's arrest and the resulting purchase of the USL by MMA businessman, Angus King, the league has officially been re-branded as the Ultimate Soccer League. The re-brand marks a new era in the league as the ASF has also today unveiled new rules and restrictions in place for the sport. These will be covered later in the article. The re-brand itself was seen as necessary by the new owner due to the level of corruption and stigma that clouded the first two seasons of the USL. One thing to note, is that we have not seen any amendments or changes to the results of those two season, so despite the connection between Olympic City and Mofokeng LTD, they remain the first ever USL champions. Though many a fan will consider an asterisk next to this achievement.

With the re-brand we have also seen the USL re-name the divisions, with the previously titled Division 1 now known as the Premier Division, with the second division remaining unchanged. We have also heard rumours of kit manufacturers signing exclusive deals with the league, but sponsors and other corporation organisations, previously linked, have remained silent. With so many changes be implemented at quite a rate, as a fan you may be concerned about your club and it's future, but I can confirm that Angus King has said himself that all teams will remain in place, all team owners remain commited to the project and players whose contracts are still active remain contracted to the USL and the ASF. The brand new spanking ultimate version of the USL is just around the corner, but there will be plenty more changes to come before we get there.

LEAGUE CHANGES UNVEILED!

The ASF followed the USL in the big news department today and unveiled new, continent wide, rules and regulations in the hope that they can prevent further corruption and uphold the integrity of the sport in the United States and it's bordering countries. Given the USL is the only currently active league system in place under the ASF banner, these regulations will apply entirely toward them. The below changes have been implemented and are to be in place prior to the seasons start:

PLAYER REPRESENTATION

Given the issues surrounding Mofokeng LTD, their involvement in talent management and the dealings of Douglas Jonker, the ASF now any player representation to be with an accredited and ASF-vetted sports agency. Prior to this change, Mofokeng aside, a lot of these players were represented by themselves, their family members, or power agents that tended to hoard talent in profit driven manner. The ASF is dedicated to ensuring these agencies are reputable and respectable and above all else, put the players first. A few agencies have been rumoured to have begun contacting players, with the ASF having rubber stamped several of them prior to this announcement.

PLAYER ACQUISITION

Another issue that occured due Mofokeng's business, but also an issue league wide, was the way in which players were acquired. Little is known of how the initial squads were built with a lot of the players arriving via Jonker's contacts. The questionable natures of this, as well as certain clubs flaunting their wealth, allowed too many teams an unfair advantage, and with the new direction of integrity and transparancy from the ASF, they have, with Angus King's advice, introduced two new methods of acquiring talent which will be in place at the start of next season. This will be replacing cash-orientated transfer with a more structured, draft-esque procurement that is more akin to other North American sports.

Further information on these new player acquisition methods can be found here - http://espnsportssims.net/index.php?topic=2621.0

CLUB MANAGEMENT

The last of the major regulations overhaul is changes to how clubs will run their clubs. Previously led by the owners and a head coach and their staff, the ASF has now put in place a scheme in which each club is required to hire a General Manager to run the day to day management of the club. Again, these General Managers will be ASF-accredited and will be fully vetted. This has largely been introduced to reduce the involvement of owners in player trades and management, but again this is another move the ASF is taking to further protect the players involved in the USL.

As preivously stated, these changes will come into place immediately and we will have more information the moment it is announced by the ASF and the USL.

SOUTH AFRICAN PLAYERS SUSPENDED!

News has also just broken that all players contracted and associated with Mofokeng LTD have been issued one year suspensions. The only players represented by the company were the South African players that joined the league during its inaugral season, Arnoux Raubenheimer being one of the key players included in these suspensions. The ASF will be allowing all teams effected by this the option to waive the contracts of these players or wait out the suspension.

A COMPETITOR EMERGES! PLAYERS POACHED! COACHES REVOLT!

A COMPETITOR EMERGES!

Just when we thought everything was settling down, and the Ultimate Soccer League was about to head into a period of stability now that clubs have hired their General Managers, news has broken of a rival federation opening its doors this season. This news was some how kept hidden from all our sources and has been sprung upon the USL at an awkward time. Unsurprisingly, the league is run by none other than Douglas Jonker. The man who fled the United States after the ASF's investigation into corruption has re-surfaced in the Carribbean with a new league, and this time it is not under ASF juristriction. Even the UWFA have no control there. The USL can do nothing about the competitor, and the ASF cannot enforce any rules or regulations upon them. They are their own entity and this is rumoured to have caused quite a stir, especially with the lack of financial restrictions involved. Several clubs have been announced, with them varying from cities in the West Indies, to Central American outfits. It is a diverse league that will offer a free for all type attitude toward its club management and as of right now, we don't know what type of football that will produce, how polished it will be, how unruly. It will certainly draw the attention of many fans though, that is for sure. The full list of clubs signed up are below:

San Pedro Sula Valley
Managua Chiefs
San Jose Twins
Panama City Conquerors
Kingston Foundation
Santa Ana Heroes
Havana Armada
Port-au-Prince Beacons
Santo Domingo Settlers
San Fernando Strong
Bayamon Cowboys
Nassau Cruisers

PLAYERS POACHED!

And with this news comes further bad news for the USL, as the Black Flag Football league have taken advantage of the current contractual situation within the USL and poached several players. We are still awaiting news on who these players are, but many of them are Mofokeng Ltd talent. One name has been revealed though, and that is Polish goalkeeper, Bozimir Helminski. Having completed his contract with Salem FC, and suffering a difficult first two seasons within the USL, the player has declarded he will be joining the BFF and has agreed a two year contract with Kingston Foundation. The elite goalkeeper will be a huge miss for the league, and Salem, who would have been hopeful of re-signing their star man to push for promotion. We're hoping to have more news on this in the coming days, but USL clubs may be too late to stop some of their talent from moving abroad.

COACHES REVOLT!

And the hits just keep rolling for the USL. After the formation of the BFF and the announcement that several players will be signing for clubs within that league. We have just been informed that the Head Coaches of the USL have come to an agreement with the ASF to have their contracts nulified. This campaign was led by Champaign head coach, Karst-Jan Keutter, having just led the team to Premier Division glory, he and many of his peers felt these new enforced General Manager roles are a slight on themselves and what they have achieved, but ultimately they nulify the contracts they initially signed with clubs.

This news has, among everything else has clubs in the USL reeling and the new General Manager's job just got harder as the Head Coach market becomes a free for all. Keutter himself said he is very keen to return to Champaign and continue the work he has done there, but if it is to simply work on the training ground, it would require a significant increase in salary. This opinion was echoed across his peers and they banded together to force the ASF into action. There were also murmurs that the federation was too quick too act on the suspensions of Hannes Morath and Ben Chavez, with no clear evidence of match fixing being presented from the ASF, it is being labelled a retalitory reaction from the ASF which only acted in damaging the reputation of the coaches in the league. The ASF has stated they are willing to re-open the matter, and avenue for the two head coaches to return to the league could soon become a possibility.

NEW FINANCIAL INFORMATION REVEALED!
« Reply #14 on: September 21, 2020, 05:32:50 PM »

NEW FINANCIAL INFORMATION REVEALED!

The ASF have announced to day new re-structured league wide salary cap increase to accomade the increased cost of bringing in players via the leagues new recruitment processes; the Global Prospect Launch, and the Mayflower Program. This increase in allowed salary is also due to the negotiations that took place between the previous Head Coachs within the league, with their salaries now being incorporated into the overall salary cap of the team. So any players or coaches signed will have their salary deducted from this new cap. The max salary allowed for an individual player or coach will be set at 10% of the overall cap.

It has also been revealed what transfer budgets will be assigned to the teams for the aforementioned recruitment processes. With both methods having financial output required, the league has set flexible transfer budget for each division, with a higher budget assigned to the Second Division to ensure they're competitive in these markets. The flexible budget is said to be manageable by the GM's, which could indicate that this can be added to, where as the salary cap is firmly in place, their may be avenues for GM's to pursue that could add to their transfer kitty in the off season. This will ultimately come down to the business acumen of the newly hired GM's but given we have no shirt sponsors for the teams currently, this would appear to be an first step into earning additional revenue.

The cap and budgets are as follows:

NEW SALARY CAP FOR BOTH DIVISIONS - $150MM (max salary per person $15MM)

NEW TRANSFER BUDGETS:-
PREMIER DIVISION - $100MM
SECOND DIVISION - $125MM
