What's the case for Rudino? With Ortega on the team, what does he actually have to do?

I'd put forward Bond. The difference in the Crowns before and after he took over as head coach is night and day. If it wasn't him, it must have been me, in which case I thank you for voting me GM of the year.

Bond also, matter of fact I did choose bond in that mix when I was thinking about coaches.

and Kirk, you damn well could be, that Crowns team was upside down before you took over.

And yet Iíve been on the brink of getting fired despite that fact that I have Ortega. Almost like you still need to have other decent players around him. We managed a lot of injuries this season and did it all with no safety net. I understand the easy points people see of wow this franchise went from nothing to something. I think the leap from something to title favorite is a much larger and more difficult leap to make. Especially given the quality of competition it deserves itís due.

I put forward Dallas Prince as coordinator of the year. His team went from 6-1 with him to 3-6 without. Just shows how good he must have been.

Couple of players I voted for:

Coach of the year: I went for Jim Bond. This is his first full season and thereís no Ortega, Chow or Hagan on that team. They are all playing above expected and that is the sign of a good coach.

Defensive player of the year: I went for Edward, but in my top 3 was Jason Webb, whos like a Swiss Army knife of defences.

DROTY: I went for Elvis Edward, obviously. 100+ tackles. 8 sacks, 19 TFL. Heís been the top linebacker in a team that features Fredrickson and Brown. Also, Teddy Glass. 90 odd tackles is incredible for a rookie corner.

Aut vincere, aut mori

I definitely had Ortega and Bond on their respective ballots.

For your consideration for DPOTY. DBs don't get the sacks but Jody was literally the difference in 2-3 games. Led the league in PDs and tied for most defensive TDs.

Its between Glass and Edward for defensive rookie.

The one category I was probably most clueless about was offensive rookie. I'd love to hear some of the options ya'll put out there.

I'd like to argue for Willis McNasty for MVP. He put together a top 10 season all time by running backs when it comes to rushing yards, besting guys like Jose Mackey and George Carlson on that list. Nearly 2200 all purpose yards and 19 touchdowns while maintaining 4.7 YPC. I think Ortega is absolutely deserving of being in the equation, but if you take McNasty out of my offense I'm Cancun. If you take Ortega out of Alabama they're still a brutal team to play with a backup that can at least keep them in games. McNasty's backups? They averaged less than 2.5 YPC.

For DROTY I would encourage you to look at Michael Turpin from Tottenham. Objectively better statistically than Teddy Glass was. I think the award should go to Edward, but Turpin is definitely worth a look.

OROTY outside of one of the three QBs, should look at guys like Peerless Adams in MC and Al Beard in Music City, they're both guys that broke 1100 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns in their rookie years.

For Coach I think Jim Bond is a good candidate, I also think Woods out of Tottenham is a good candidate.

Edward should be DROY and Glass was good and all, but I'd put both Turpin and Vlad Glichrist above Glass. Turpin was just an all around playmaker with all the forced turnovers between FF and INTs from the FS spot and provided sacks as well. Vlad Gilchrist my argument is besides the 90+ tackles and double digit TFL he performed on objectively a damn good defense. He was forced to drop back into coverage a LOT if you look at his targets passing and did a damn solid job taking that responsibility of defending other team's tight ends and helping keep their points against low. Again, Glass was good but I don't know why we're looking at tackles as a prime stat for a corner lol. Having a lot of tackles just means you got targeted a lot and your prime job as a corner is either to make them throw to someone else or break the pass up.

To clarify, I think Glass was good and has other stats besides the tackles one you can use to prop him up & wouldn't be upset at him top 3 but I don't see it as particularly close between what he and Edward did.

I had Beard in my top 3. Adams is worthy of consideration too because of his big play ability but the difference in drops between them edged Beard ahead for me.

I know many of you have already submitted a ballot, but I did want to argue for a few of my players and staff.

MVP & OPotY: Elias Ibrahimovic (QB)

I know it's easy to pick Ortega in this spot, I mean he won over half the player of the week awards. However, despite the impressive season stats Ortega amassed this season, it can't be ignored that he was absent for 2 full games plus most of a 3rd. Part of being a valuable player is being there for your team in each game.

Let me run down Elias' stats for you though...
- 1st in the league for total yards (4,748)
- 2nd in the league in total touchdowns (48)
- 8th in the league in passing yards (3,835)
- 1st in passing touchdowns (37)
- 10th in completion percentage (59.1%)
- 4th in QB Rating (104.4)
- 24th in rushing yards (913) on the 58th most carries (90)
- 16th in rushing touchdowns (11)
- 2nd longest run from scrimmage (94 yard touchdown)
- tied for 11 for runs of 20 yards or more (10)
- tied for 2nd in runs of 20 yards or more (5)

He was the most complete dual threat quarterback in the league this season, showcasing that he is just as dangerous with his arm as he is his legs, that led the best offense in the league this season.

He should be the HIFL Season 13 MVP.

Head Coach of the Year: Andy Graham

After starting the season 0-2 and the team was ridiculed by analysts as being "done". Team went 13-1 from that point, including ending season on 8 game winning streak and winning the Northwest Division by 2 games. Best conference record in the league at 11-1. Best offense in the league.

Ortegaís stats are even more impressive that he missed those games. Thanks for reminding me Jon boy.

As for as offensive rookie

I wasnít too impressed by the rookie QB I considered Peerless Adams and Colt Williamson.

Colt with 88 pancakes and 0 sacks is impressive I agree.

WR Stats wise they look like this

Peerless Adams - 66 rec 1320 yards 11 TD's 11 drops
Al Beard - 77 rec 1344 yards 12 TD's 5 drops

I'd go Adams because he had to do it with a QB made of glass. Without him, Music City would have been in even more trouble.

You left that out buddy when you put up Ortega's numbers on your initial post. You're welcome for letting you know that though.

I would like to add that due to the dual threat ability of Elias, it opened up the run game for Quan Black, who had a pretty fantastic season, more so than Ortega has done for Pegasus.

Case in point:

Quan Black: 242 carries, 1397 yards, 13 TDs, 5.7 avg yards per carry, 16 runs of 20 yards or more, 3 runs of 40 yards or more

Pegasus Williams: 292 carries, 1137 yards, 8 TDs, 3.9 avg yards per carry, 5 runs of 20 yards or more, 0 runs of 40 yards or more

Pegasus actually improved his numbers with Ortega out of the lineup.
Game vs. Orlando: 16 carries, 114 yards, 1 TD
Game vs. Cleveland: 20 carries , 83 yards
Game vs. St. Paul: 19 carries, 82 yards

Totals: 55 carries, 279 yards, 5.1 avg yards per carry.

I think the coach of the year should just be the coach in which the team he was on ranked to do the worst and out performed their projected total. The Offensive player is a QB

I think that's definitely part of it.

I think you also have to look at how the team progressed throughout the season.

If there was any significant injuries and was the team able to overcome said injuries because of good coaching.

Lots of intangibles to look at when it comes to coach of the year... and awards in general.

For me*

Usually I don't like to split MVP and player of the year in his category, but Ortega is obviously the MVP and he doesn't need more awards. Elias is a good shout for player of the year. Who else? I'll have to look at the stats, but my gut says Sumner ought to be in the conversation.

If McNasty is in the conversation, Sumner has to be. He only ran for 100 fewer yards and 2 fewer TDs despite McNasty having run the ball 120(ish) more times than Sumner. 6.3 ypc is by far the best of any RB. He also scored 15TDs and had 20 R20 & 3 R40 and didn't have a single fumble. McNasty wasn't miles ahead in passing stats either, and he was thrown to twice as often (failing to catch more than half the balls that came his way). Only Ortega matches Sumner for rushing stats and he's already going to win MVP.

Sumner deserves to be in the discussion for OPOTY absolutely but I think when talking about MVP you have to at least somewhat factor in where a team would be if the candidate was not on the team. In Sumners case, McLure matched him on TD's and had a solid YPC and broke 1k yards himself.

Then no RB should be in MVP discussion before you get through a handful of QBs.

MVP is Elias or Ortega and, let's face it, it's Ortega. OPOTY I would agree with Sumner over McNasty but that's probably Ortega as well.
