EXERCISING (OR DECLINING) THE 4TH YEAR OPTION
« on: March 15, 2021, 04:03:40 PM »
Any player drafted in the first round and still on his original rookie contract has the 4th Year Team Option included in his contract (magenta color on your team sheet).   If that player is in their year of their rookie contract, then you have the option to pick up their 4th year option, but there is a deadline to make that decision.

REMEMBER:  The 4th Year option is an additional season at the players current contracted rates PLUS an additional $4MM added to that contract.   The additional 4MM may be split between salary and bonus at the GM's discretion.

DEADLINE: Teams have from Week 1 of the regular season until they lock in on the week of the trade deadline (Week 10) to exercise the 4th year option on a player in their contract year.   If you do not submit to the league office your decision to pick up the 4th year option (with a detailed breakdown of the salary and bonus) then the option will be forfeited and the player(s) in question will be set for unrestricted free agency after the season concludes.
